Sharen said the meetings are
needed to determine feelings of
residents in Bosanquet and
Stephen townships who would be
affected if the village enlarged its
boundaries.
There are about eight sub-
divisions out side the current
boundary which have to be dealt
with on an individual basis,
Sharen said, but how much of
each township would be involved
has not been determined.
"We want to fully understand
what they're saying before we
proceed with any adjustment.
We'll be pointing out alternatives
and saying 'we see it this way and
we want you to comment on it.'
"We hope everyone can be
heard. But I can't see there being
absolutely no objection to it."
Sharen said the village wants to
expand its boundaries because
there are residents outside it who
are benefiting from the village
without sharing the costs.
"All the growth has been
outside of Grand Bend but it's the
village that generated it. This
adjustment is extremely im
portant because I can't see Grand
Bend being able to absorb all the
costs in the future,"
The assessment is about $2
million and Sharen said with
boundary changes it's possible
that could be doubled, He said it's
likely the two townships would
lose assessment dollars.
The village has asked the
province to do a financial impact
study on the effects to the village
and the two townships but Sharen
said he doesn't know when it will
be ready.
Although Grand Bend will
probably benefit financially from
the adjustment, Sharen said
there are other, more important,
long-term advantages. He said
there are a number of people now
affected by council decisions who
have no say.
By changing the boundaries,
more people will have a chance to

He said there have been no
discussions with the township
councils because they're more
concerned with financial effects.
"We're trying to look at the
people and the reality of the
situation and how they feel before
talking with the townships."
Sharen said there will be five
public meetings that will run
until m id-March, A final meeting
will probably be held in April.
