About 475 people enjoyed a hot
beef smorgasbord dinner with pie
and cake for dessert, Wednesday
evening November 16 at the
United Church, This project was
sponsored by the board of
stewardsassisted by the ladies of
the UCW, The board of stewards
would like to offer their ap-
preciation to all those people who
donated food or helped in anyway
to make this worthwhile project
such a great success.
Friendly Neighbors Meet
There was a good turnout
Wednesday afternoon at the
Scout Hall where a good time of
recreation was spent in the en-
joyment of shuffleboard, euchre,
crokinole, and upstairs the men
kept the pool table busy, A social
time followed, over refresh-
ments. The club will not meet
next week as the Happy Gang are
having the Christmas dinner

ACW Bazaar a Success
In spite of the unpleasant
weather Saturday afternoon the
St. Thomas Anglican Church
Christmas Bazaar. was well at-
tended.
Church News
At the United Church Rev.
Elwood Morden conducted the
service for the first Sunday in
Advent and took as the theme for
his sermon "Dimensions of
Advent" Advent means a new
beginning of the Christian Church
year. Advent provides us with
time to search our souls and
revalue our lives and change
them and then we can look for-
ward with great joy to Christmas
and the birthday of Jesus, said
Rev. Morden,
Sunday School Superintendent
Jim Bakker performed the
ceremony of lighting the first
candle of the Advent wreath,
denoting Penitence, this was
followed by Rev, Morden
describing the wreath which is
Scandinavian in origin, the
everygreens represent light, the
circle, the eternal nature of God,
and purple the color of the can-
dles royalty.
Sunday school pupils receiving
attendance awards were the
following children; second pin,
Amy Waugh; wreath, Cindy
Hofrichter; Third Bar, Karen

At the 9:30 arm. service at St
Thomas Anglican church Rev..
Mary Mills was in charge of the
worship, and continuing her
series on the people of the Bible,
based her sermon on the life of
Jacob, describing how his story
pertained to us at the present
time. The ceremony of lighting
the first candle in the Advent
wreath was performed by Betty
Ann Herbert.
C.G.I,T. News
The C.G.I.T. met in the United
Church Wednesday evening and
opened their meeting with a
hymn and repeating the purpose
in unison. The girls and their
leaders Mrs. Marion Gricken and
Mrs. Betty Rooney are practicing
for their vesper service which
will be held at the United Church
December 18 at 7:30.
The Explorers and their leaders
Mrs. Martin Vanderminnen and
Mrs. Charles Gowan are also
working on their parts for the
vesper service.
The Medway Euchre Club
The Medway euchre club met
at the borne of Mr and Mrs' Mrs.
Chester McComb, Elginfield
Monday afternoon. Prize winners
were the following members;

men; high score, Elmer Sum-

Church
The St, Thomas Anglican
Church Chancel Guild met at the
church Wednesday evening with
Mrs. Clarence Lewis presiding
and leading the devotional, The
psalm was read by Mrs. R,A.
Carson and the lesson by Mrs.
Percy Hodgins followd by the
Magninficat read in unison,
Business discussed was Advent
and the Christmas season, also
further consideration given to the
disposal of a legacy from the late
Mrs. Wilda Clatworthy.

Congratulations are extended
to Dani Roloson on being
awarded the Grade 10 academic
proficiency prize from the
Middlesex County Board of
Education ,and also the subject
proficiency award for Grade 10
mathemetics at the Com-
mencement exercises held
Friday evening, November 19 at
Medway High School, Arva,
Congratulations also to
Kerry Westman who attained the
highest standing in practical
subjects in the two year course,
and received the C.U.P.E. Local
1170 award and his certificate of
training. Nancy Riddell and
Bradley Tomlin are also
congratulated on being presented
with their grade 12 Diplomas.
