50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Dave-Y, Waterloo Street, Exeter celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary Saturday with a family dinner at the 4-Way
Inn and a dance at the Exeter Legion Hull. Mr. and Mrs. Davey were
married November 30, 1927 lay Rev, Duncan McTavish. They first farm-
ed on Concession 3 of Stephen township on property later purchased
for the Centralia Airport. At that time they moved to tot 17, Conces-
sion 3 and remained there until moving to their present home in Exeter
14 years ago. They have two children, Donald Davey, RR 1, Exeter and
Mrs. Reg (Leona) Elliot, Staffa and seven grandchildren.

A good way to start a new list
after you've done your shopping
is to keep apiece of paper and
pencil handy in the kitchen,
Attach them to one of the cup-
boards or the refrigerator and
leave them there until you are
ready to shop, As you run out of
food items, add the names of the
items to your list. Just before you
are ready to shop, a quick look
through cupboards, refrigerator,
and freezer will indicate any
other foods that are low and
should be replaced.
Planning basic meal menus for
a week or two is another good
idea to help make the routine of
shopping easier. Know the basic
ingredient for the main course of
each meal so that you choose
foods that will be used at these
meals, Don't let yourself buy
foods that end up going to waste
because they don't blend with the
other foods on your menus.
Check the weekly food ad-
vertisements to see if there is
anything that would fit into your
shopping needs, or that would be
useful to buy for future use, It's
beneficial to have certain foods
on hand, such as canned or frozen
products, for your cooking needs.
Once in the store, compare prices
to make sure you are getting the
best buy for your family's food
needs.
For easier and more efficient
shopping days, plan ahead. You'll
find that grocery shopping is not
such a chore after all.

few hints to keep in mind before
each shopping day comes along.
Before you set out to shop for
the family groceries, it's wise to
make a list of the items you

don't need, or forget items that
you do need. Sticking to a list
helps you to avoid impulse buying

milk powder with the dry in-
gredient mixture and add one

burger patties, to increase
juiciness and nutritive value.

Cyclamen is
popular plant
A popular Christmas plant
suitable for cool, sunny house and
office locations is the colorful
cyclamen, says John Hughes,
Ontario Ministry of Agriculture
and Food horticulturist.
Cyclamen available locally are
usually grown from seed by
Ontario greenhouse growers. It
takes from 10 to 18 months to
produce a finished plant,
Because cyclamen is such a
long-term crop, its cost is often a
little higher than 'some of the
other popular Christmas plants,
such as the poinsettia.
Mr. Hughes says cyclamen are
grown at 10 degrees C night
temperatures, and 16 degrees C
day temperatures. This helps to
produce firm foliage and the
characteristic ball-shaped top
growth.
When buying cyclamen, Mr.
Hughes suggests checking under
the canopy of foliage. Ideally,
there should be a multitude of
developing flower buds.
Cyclamen, like most Christmas
plants, prefer cooler tem-
peratures and high humidity,
This plant will enjoy a bright
location in a south-, west-, or
east-facing window with tem-
peratures of 12 to 15 degrees C,
away from hot air registers,
radiators and hot, bright lights.
With proper attention, cyclamen
will flower from four to eight
weeks,
Cyclamen are available in a

red, purple, and white to various
shades of pink. Flower petals also
vary from round and smooth to
rough and fluffy,

familiar with the boxes of skim
milk powder lining the shelves of
your supermarket, but have you
ever wondered what hides
behind those colourful labels?
There is an abundance of skim
milk powder because of the
great demand for products
derived from the fat portion of
milk such as butter, cream and
ice. cream. The skim milk
remaining is sold in its fresh
state or used for the manufac-
ture of skim milk cheese.
However, its principal use is as
skim milk powder.
To change it into powder,
pasteurized skim milk is partly
concentrated in a vacuum
process. It is then sprayed as a
fine mist under pressure into a
heated chamber where it dries.

process called "instantizing",
which forms larger granules that
dissolve instantly in cold water.
