Seven Kippen residents attend-
ed the Tuckersmith township
council meeting Tuesday to dis-
cuss the revised report of the
Kippen drainage works with
engineer Henry Uderstadt,
Orangeville, Attending were:
Mr, and Mrs. Edward McBride,
Mrs. Elzear Mousseau, Mr. and
Mrs. Howard Shanks, Arthur
McCallum and Ross Faber.
The engineer made several
minor revisions to the drain
route to try and satisfy most of
the residents, He answered
many questions and assured
them their trees, wells, septic
tanks and weeping tiles would be
protected.
The report was accepted by
council and court of revision set
for December 20. Any appeals
must be made in writing before
that date by those not satisfied
with the report,
Requests for building permits
were approved for Dorothy
Govier, lot 155, plan 22,
Vanastra, porch; Kenneth
Coleman, Egmondville, house;
Burt Alexander, lot 11, plan 10,
Egmondville, house addition.
A demolition permit for a barn
for John Butson,Ipart lot 6, con-
cession 9, H.R.S. was approved.
Tuckersmith council and
township employees will attend
the Christmas dinner and dance
along with officials of other
municipalities in the area at the
Pineridge Chalet, Hensall
November 25.
A three-storey apartment
building owned by Jim Queen of
London must be vacated by the
third floor tenants because of
damage to electrical wires from
several fires in the lower floor.
The wires are dangling or
charred. The first and second
floors have not been renovated
into apartments but have been
vacant, The order for the closure
followed a meeting at the site of
the owner, hydro officials, the
building inspector, Huron health
officials, Brucefield firechief
and Reeve Ervin Sillery,
Clerk Jack McLachlan
reported another break-in at the
Vanastra recreation centre early
Sunday morning when some cash
was stolen and four doors
damaged beyond repair when
locks were smashed during the
break-in to different rooms.
The Huron County school
board and the Huron-Perth Coun-
ty Roman Catholic separate
school board will be requested to
accept the school levies in two
instalments as in other years on
June 30 and December 15 and
this to be in effect each year un-
less an agreement reached
mutually to change.
Building inspector, Norman
VanWieren, reported for the
month that he had made seven
inspections of buildings and
seven inspections for the home
renewal program,
Council passed a by-law re-
quiring a landlord to provide
adequate and suitable heat for
rented dwelling accommodation-
68 degrees Fahrenheit or 20
degrees celsius.
Another by-law was passed
allowing Charles Chapman of
Base Factory outlet — a clothing
apparel store to remain open on
holidays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m,
and. on Sundays 12 noon to 6 p.m.
A Vanastra resident, Howey
Langan, sent a letter protesting a
move by the Vanastra Communi-
ty Association which has propos-
ed a sub-post office be installed
at the Base Factory outlet.
Mr. Langan said in his letter to
the Clinton postmaster with
copies to the Postmaster
General of Canada, the regional
postmaster at London, the
Vanastra Community associa-
tion and Tuckersmith council,
that he objects to the change
because he gets his mail now
from a group letter box in the
residential area,
The proposed post office would
be in a store, located 800 metres
from the residential area, on the
boundary line of the hamlet in
the industrial area — too much of
a hardship for older residents
and those without a car. He
suggested any changes be
suspended.
He said the Vanastra Com-
munity association has a paid-up
membership of approximately 50
from a population of nearly 1,200
and they "cannot be considered
the political representatives of
this community".
