T-A photo More than 100 friends and relatives called to offer best wishes and congratulations, Saturday at "Open House" for Mr. & Mrs. Colin Love, at their home in Grand Bend on 32 Sauble Road, Mr, & Mrs. Love were the first couple married 50 years ago in the newly built United Church in 1927. They received special greetings from Prime Minister Trudeau and other government dignitaries. Mr. & Mrs. Colin Love were guests of their family, Saturday evening at the Green Forest, for dinner. Their family of three sons and wives and grandchildren attending were, Mr. & Mrs. Morley Love, and Jennifer, Ottawa, Mr. & Mrs. Glen Love and Dick, Sarnia, Mr. & Mrs. Gerry Love, Paul, Heather and Brent, Grand Bend area. Grandsons were Mr. & Mrs. Brian Love, Hammond, and Mr. & Mrs. Dan Love and their great granddaughter, Christina,Sarnia. Some original wedding party guests attending were the best man, Ross Love and his wife Nola, a niece, (Ruth Love who was flower girl, Mr. & Mrs. Ellison Whiting, Parkhill, and an usher Wellwood Gill and his wife Alice. Other special guests were Rev. & Mrs. H. Moore, Mr. & Mrs, Bill Love, and Mr. & Mrs. Ed Gill. President Nola Taylor presided. It was announced that the W.I. had made over $200. at the craft fair held recently at the old movie house, with the sale of hot noon lunches, bake table and snacks of pie. Achievement Day for the* 4-H club will be held December 3 at Stephen Central school. Roll call was answered by naming a garden vegetable or herb. Clara Hamilton reported at- tending the fall district board meeting at Hensall. South Huron branches were asked for idea's to help celebrate the W.I. 's 75th anniversary., The motto. "What does your garden grow," was commented on by convener of Agriculture and Canadian Industry, Eva Allister, She spoke on the power of plants, the value and uses of them, many for medicinal use. Vegetable crops harvested for food, and flowers which are used for drugs, cosmetics and per- fume. Brenda Love commented on Did you know? She had a bag of groceries, telling us what is new in kitchen cleaners, coffee, salad dressing cake mixes and etc. Meeting closed with a poem and reading on Remembrance Day by Nola Taylor. With the Churches Rev. H. Moore's sermon topic at the United Church, morning service was "Hope for our future." Choir anthem was "Saviour, teach me day by day." Next week will be the first Sunday in Advent a time in which the Christian prepares himself for Christmas. Church of God Church of God young people held an interesting meeting, Friday night at the church, when 17 enjoyed a regressive supper, served by their mothers. All had to wear an item of clothing back- wards. The meal was served, rever- sed, starting with mints and dessert first, Guest speaker was Edgar Cudmore and he talked to them on the book of Timothy. Personals Eleven from the Church of God attended the Ontario Board of Christian education, at a workshop, Saturday held at Westfield, near Blyth, at the Snell restaurant. Mrs, Evelyn Krueger (formerly of this area) was one of the main speakers. Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Johnson visited last week at Southampton and Port Elgin with their daughter's and families, Mr. & Mrs, Don McArthur, Kevin and Karen, and Mr. & Mrs. Duncan McVittie, Robin and Lawrence. During their visit the families went out to a restaurant and celebrated Neva McVittie's birthday. Karen McArthur returned to the home of her grandparents for some holidays. Alec Hamilton and Barbara Blewett are patients at Victoria Hospital, London, Art Webb, has returned to his home in Green Acres, after being hospitalized in Windsor. Mr. & Mrs. Mrs. Jack Holt, Ganonoque visited relatives in this area last week. Dr. Judith Brigham, Louisville Kentucky, spent the week-end in Grand Bend, closing up her cottage for the winter.
