Two of Exeter's minor hockey
all-star teams got untracked this
week in Shamrock league action.
The local pee wees posted their
first win of the season against the
highly touted Lambeth crew on
Friday night and then made it
two in a row with a win over St.
Marys II at the rec centre on
Sunday.
In Sunday's triple-header, the
bantam II squad scored their
first league point with a thrilling
1-1 tie with St. Marys II. That
goal was the first the team has
scored in its seven games,
The local minor teams have a
comparatively light week facing
them. The midgets, bantams, pee
wees and atoms have only one
home game each as they face
Belmont in a Sunday foursome at
the rec centre starting at 4:00
p.m, The bantam II host Ilderton,
Wednesday.
The atoms travelled to Dor-
chester last night for a game,
while the bantams start action in
the annual Ilderton tournament
this weekend.
Exeter's novice team makes its
debut on Friday with a home
game at 7:00 p.m, against Lucan.
Get Untracked
The Exeter, pee wees finally put
it all together on Friday with
their first league win, a narrow 3-
2 margin over the powerful
Lambeth crew. •
Playing in Lambeth, the local
squad took a 1-0 lead in the
second when Chris Van Gerwen
finished off a play with John
Kernick and they upped their
lead to two goals early in the
third when Darren Vandergunst
found the mark on a play with
Van Gerwen and Kernick.
After Lambeth pulled to within
one goal, Vandergunst came
back with his second tally of the
night to get the insurance marker
Kernick and VanGerwen again
drew the assists.
Lambeth narrowed, the count to
one goal again with just over two
minutes left, but Exeter's Peter
Dearing continued his strong
play in the nets to hold them off
the sheet for the balance of the
game.
On Sunday, Exeter spotted St.
Marys II a 1-0 lead and then
came roaring back to post a 6-2
triumph,
Chris VanGerwen paced the
attack with his team's first hat-
trick of the season, while John
Kernick potted a pair, The single
was recorded by Doug Scott.
Kernick also picked up two
assists in the game, while helping
out on one goal each were Ted
Oke, Steve Laithwaite, Darren
Vandergunst and Brent Dawson.
Finally Score
The Exeter bantam II team
played twice this week, suffering
their sixth straight shut-out in
Dorchester, Wednesday, by a 4-0
margin.
However, they finally managed
to get on the score sheet on
Sunday when they came through
with their, first goal and 'first
point with the 1-1 tie with St.
Marys II
St. Marys took a lead in the
second period and it appeared as
though they may hold it as Exeter
continually failed to find the
target.
However, their bench erupted
in wild jubilation when Mike
Murray broke around the St.
Marys defence early in the third
period to get the equalizer on a
solo effort.
Play to Draw
In their only outing this week,
the bantam squad posted a 2-2 tie
in Lambeth, Friday,
They spotted the hosts a 1-0
lead in the second, but came back
with two straight goals in the
third and appeared to have the
win in hand, but Lambeth got the
equalizer with less than four
minutes remaining.
Allan Gaiser was the
marksman on the first goal, with

Split League Tilts
Exeter's midget entry split a
pair of Shamrock league games
and posted a win over
Stoneybrook in an exhibition
game in their three outings this
week.
The loss came in Lambeth,
Friday, when the hosts posted a
convincing 5-0 verdict.
On Sunday, the locals scored a
7-2 win over St, Marys II. Brian
Mercer paced the attack in that
game with a hat-trick, while
Dave Bogart potted a pair.
Singles came off the sticks of Dan
Bell and Wayne Parsons, Dave
Bell drew a pair of assists, while
helping out on other goals were
Bogart, Larry Dawson, Doug
Brooks, Jeff Fuller and Dave
Cann.
Playing at home as part of a
referees' clinic on Saturday,
Exeter scored a 7-5 win over
Stoneybrook in an exhibition
game. They scored all .seven
goals in succession to open the
game and then had to hold on as
the visitors came back with five
straight tallies in the latter part
of the contest,
Brian Mercer was the top
scorer with a pair of goals, while
potting singles were Doug
Brooks, Dave Cann, Dave
Bogart, Preston Dearing and
Dave Atthill.
Keep Rolling
The Exeter atoms extended
their unbeaten streak to seven
games when they posted a win
and tie in Shamrock league ac-
tion this week.
Friday night, the locals
bombarded the St. Marys II net
and were rewarded with a 4-0
triumph, although only some hot
goaltending by Paul Taylor
prevented a more lopsided
outcome.
Jim Lewis had an easy time
posting the shutout for Exeter as
