We are happy to report that
By MRS. E. SUMMERS
GRANTON
In spite of the blustery, cold
weather, there was a good tur-
nout at the Monument Friday
morning for the Remembrance
Day Service, conducted by the
Lucan Legion.
The Granton Cubs and their
leaders Mrs, Gordon McRoberts
and Mrs, Wilfred Riddell paraded
from the Scout Hall to the.
Monument.
Rev. Mary Mills gave a thought
provoking meditation, saying
that at the 11th hour on the 11th
day of the 11th month we
remember those who gave their
lives for our freedom. They were
committed to a cause, we also
have to be committed to the
restraints that are necessary to
the economy at this time, said
Rev. Mills,
Court Valentine C.O. F. Meet
Court Valentine met at the
Masonic Hall Tuesday evening
with Sister Marie Doyle presiding
and opening court.
Several orders of business were
discussed, such as delegates for
the General Assembly. Sisters
Olive Hodgins (Mrs. Kenneth)
and Lois Herbert offered to go as
delegates representing Court
Valentine, Arrangements for a
Christmas party for the next
meeting with a gift exchange and
each member to bring a friend
were made.
Some of the members offered
to meet at the Forester's Hall to
pack the dishes, glassware and
other articles ready to be moved
to the Masonic Hall. The Forester
coffee spoon for the bulletin
draw, was won by sister Jean
McComb, and sister Edith
Youngson was the lucky winner
of the surprise package.
Friendly Neighbors Meet
The Friendly Neighbors met at
the Scout Hall Wednesday to
enjoy an afternoon of recreation
and a social time over light
refreshments. Those who were
present took part in shuffleboard,
crokinole, pool, and euchre. The
next meeting will be Wednesday,
November 23 at 1:30 p.m.
Cub News
Following the Remembrance
Day service, the Cubs who were
tahave taken part in a hike to the
bush for a picnic lunch, returned
to the Scout Hall and cooked their
lunch on a hot plate and later
amused themselves by taking
turns setting up obstacle courses
upstairs and downstairs, in the
hall, which proved to be great
fun.
Church News
At St. Thomas Anglican Church
there was an exchange of pulpits
Sunday. Rev. R.W. Birtch of St.
James Anglican Church St.
Mary s, was in charge of the
worship, and Rev, Mary Mills
was the guest minister at his
church. Rev. Birtch used the
theme "Peace on Earth good will
among men" for his sermon, and
preached on Remembrance Day.
At the United Church Rev.
Elwood Morden conducted the
Sunday morning worship and
took the theme for his sermon
from Ephesians 6-17, and entitled
it "Loyalty".
At this present time of
lawlessness, all authority seems
to have gone by the boards. There
is no authority by parents in the
home, and there is a wave of
crime that has shaken this
country to its very foundations,
and disloyalty is eating at the
very heart of civilization said
Rev. Morden.
He who is faithful in little, will
also be faithful in much, if you
are loyal to home, church, state,
and business, then you will be a
worthy disciple of God.
