Jets add three players,
hosing streak continues
Disastrous Third Period
Three unanswered goals by
Woodstock in the first seven
Minutes of the third period
spelled, defeat for the Jets,
Friday night,
After facing a 2-0 first period
deficit, the Jets battled back and
were on even terms at 3-3 after 40
Minutes of play. Ted Long and
Don Jones were the Woodstock
marksmen in the first period.
The Jets came out flying in the
second session and were actually
,in front 3-2 before nine minutes
had elapsed.
Scott Graham started the quick
scoring at 3:08 en passes from
Ken McCutcheon and Ian
MoTaggart and Ed Robb tied the
count about' two minutes later
with assists going to Jerry
Schneckenberger and Ron
Funston.
Jamie Robb shot the Jets in
front at 8:25 as he culminated a
three-way effort with Gerald
Weido and Joe O'Rourke. The
lead was short-lived as Doug
Paton registered for Woodstock
exactly 59 seconds later.
Ted Bropn scored twice for the
Royals in the final 20 Minutes of
play and single goals were added
by Rick Kelly, Tom Murphy and
Don Jones.
Ed Robb completed the Jets,
scoring as he converted passes
from Ron Funston and Jerry
Schneckenberger.
Rob Kellestine was in goal for
the Jets and faced 38 shots while
Ken Kitching at the other end
looked at 23 shots.

goal by Sworik,
Peter Ades WAS in goal for the
L-1 team and faced a total of 43
shots while his team-mates fired
33 at Bruce Eberhart in goal for

Penalty Record Set
The Petrolia Squires set a
Continental league record in
Sunday's 7-2 win over the Jets as
they picked up 27 minor penalties
along with two misconducts and a
major. The Jets were assessed 15
two minute sentences along with
two majors and a misconduct.
Roger Archer and Al Houston
led the Petrolia scoring attack wvith two successful shots each.
Adding single scores were Doug
Zonneville, Ron Wilson and Brian
Symington.
The only Jets markers came
from the sticks of Brian Spurr
and newcomer Frank Sworik,
Spurr hit on a three-way com-
bination with Gerald Weido and
Ian McTavish on a power play

mitments and suspensions, the
Exeter Hawks maintained their
position atop their division of the
Western Junior "D" loop this
week with a pair of victories.
They doubled the score 10-5 on
Bothwell in their first trip to the
newest league entry on Wed-
nesday and then came home to
post a 5-2 triumph over
Tavistock, Friday,"
The Hawks face three big tests
this week, including a visit to the
other division leaders in Belmont
last night. However, their own
division leadership will be on the
line at the rec centre on Friday
when they host the Lucan Irish,
The Irish have a couple of
games in hand on the Hawks and
the defending champions will be
out to avenge a loss to Lucan in
the grand opening tilt at the rec
centre.
On Sunday night, Tavistock
will be back for another meeting
at 7:30 p.m. in the rec centre,
In Wednesday's 10-5 win over
Bothwell, the Hawks suited up
two midget players, Dave Bogart
and Brian Mercer, to fill up their
thin ranks.
Mercer responded to the
challenge by scoring a pair of
goals, Also adding a pair each
were Jamie Caldwell and Matt
Muller,
Single 'goals were potted by
Kim McKinnon, Randy Parsons,
Fred Mommersteeg and Jim
Ferguson.
Phil Knight and Jamie Cald-
well were the top play-makers in
the contest with three assists
each, Matt Muller and Randy
Parsons helped out on a pair
while being credited with one
each were Jim Ferguson, Kim
McKinnon, Dave Bogart, Fred
Mommersteeg and Dave Kin-
sman.
Exeter out-shot Bothwell by a
margin of 33-29 with Randy Lovie
posting the win in the Hawks net.
Exeter led throughout the contest
after opening up a 3-0 first period
margin,
Only nine minor penalties were
called in the contest.
Rough Battle
Friday night's contest with
Tavistock was a hard-hitting
affair throughout, and two fights
broke out in the latter stages.
Randy Parsons and Ron Bilcke
were sidelined by the hard-hitting
in the early part of the game, and
after three players were sent to
the dressing room in the final five
minutes, the Hawks had only nine
skaters left.
Brion Penhale and Steve
Jennison each 'drew 'five-minute
fighting majors and Phil Knight
was handed a misconduct for
failing to go to the players' bench
during one of the altercations,
In the scoring department, only
one goal resulted from a power
play, it being the eventual winner
in the second period. Exeter drew

James Snyder spent the week

the first period on a play with
Phil Knight and Matt Muller .
Brian Taylor blinked the light
nine seconds later to give them a
2-0 lead at the end of the first.
Jamie Caldwell and Jim
Ferguson helped on Taylors goal.
Tavistock replied near the mid-
way mark of the second to
narrow the gap, but captain Steve
Jennison scored the eventual
winner two minutes later on a
play with Muller.
Tavistock narrowed the gap to
one goal again in the third, but
goals by Muller and Caldwell
pulled the game out of reach.
Brion Penhale drew assists on
both those markers, while Phil
Knight and Brian Taylor also
helped out on one each.
Steve Beer played a steady
game between the pipes for the
Hawks to maintain his unbeaten
record.
