CHAINWAY, EXETER TO CLOSE Friday, Nov. 18 MIDNIGHT SHOP 'TILL 12 O'CLOCK FRIDAY NIGHT FOR FINAL BARGAINS highlight of the day was a puppet show by "No Strings Attached" puppets. In the future, it is hoped that these themes will be carried on, including a Christmas Party, and a "People in our Sorority talk over projects BUR)! can add color for winter Flowering bulbs grown indoors during the winter can Add color and cheer to your home on dull winter days. R, F. Gomme, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food horticulturist, says forcing varieties of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and narcissus indoors is quite easy. "It's only a matter of simulating the outside growing conditions in a shorter time span." Bulbs should be placed in pots containing a soil mixture or equal parts loam, sand and peat moss. Mr. Gomme recommends placing small stones or broken crockery over the hole at the bot- tom of the pot to ensure good drainage. To plant bulbs, start 'by half filling the pot with soil, then placing the b(ilbs one-half inch apart, Add more soil until just the tips of the bulbs show. Mr. Gomme cautions against packing the soil too tightly. Water the pot thoroughly so the soil settles around the bulbs at a level about one-half inch below the pot rim.' Place the pots in a tool, dark place such as the basement, gar- age, or refrigerator, for about three months. Check occasional- ly to see whether bulbs are rooting and moist, Mr. Gomme says bulbs can be brought into warmer temperatures in a shaded loca- tion once roots begin to show in the drainage hole and some top growth begins. As the shoots green, remove the plants to a brighter area with a room temperature of about 18°C and water them well, You are only what you are when no one is4looking: The unction's Biggest Sole .Ever. The nursery school is operated by the parents of the children enrolled in the program, The program is offered two days a week, three days a week, or five days a week, In this type of program, the parents set the standards, hire. the staff, and take his or her turn in assisting in the morning sessions. The participation and co-operation of the parents registers the success of the nursery school. It offers the benefit of being completely involved in the child's first encounter with a "school" atmosphere. When the parent assists the teacher, it es- tablishes a bond between home and school. For a child, this bond is very important. Since beginning its second year in September, the nursery school has been operating on themes for each week. Themes such as "starting school, fall, Hallowe'en and safety on the streets and fire safety" have been used. In connection with safety, a ilmember of the Exeter Police Force visited the children, and in relation to fire safety, two • members of the Exeter Volunteer Fire Department came to the school. It is hoped that these visits reinforce the ideas they have shared, and show how to use these ideas in every- day life. Recently, they also celebrated Hallowe'en with a party com- plete with costumes. The Ladies mark remembrance The afternoon units of Exeter United Church Women met Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Murray in charge of the program, the theme being Remembrance. She was assisted in the worship service by Mrs. Truemner and Mrs. Dickey. Mrs. Harold Snell spoke on Remembrance and Peace. We must remember our men fought for peace. To have this peace we must keep it in our hearts and work hard towards making it come true. Peace is often men- tioned in the Bible, we think especially of the verse Peace on Earth Goodwill to Men. Miss Ann Brodie told the story of the song "Let There Be Peace on Earth" then sang this beautiful song. A skit on Peace was given by Mrs. Murray, Mrs. Truemner and Mrs. Dickey. Theyasked how we would explain peace. The dove is the symbol of peace, we also think of peace as being serene and quiet. One way to try and keep peace is to eliminate discrimination, vulgar language, every day gossip, catty remarks, etc. To keep this peace it must show in Our personal lives and we must leve thy neighbor as thyself.
