Area man injured
in Friday collision
Ask for residential zoning
asking that their property on
Thames Road W. also be left as
residential.
The Mayor's memo .suggested
council should consider the
changes being proposed for
Andrew and William streets in
the north end and along Highway
83 west of Highway 4,
"The proposed expansion of the
commercial zone along Highway
83 might not be advisable in light
of the limited services
available," he said, "or it might
be a good idea to specify that the
cost of expansion of facilities will
be borne by future developers",
Huron County planning
director Gary Davidson will meet
with council on November 21 to
discuss the various problems that
have arisen with the new plan,
Mayor Shaw indicated that
first and second reading may be
given to the plan at that meeting
and asked members to be
prepared to accept the plan "as
we might (might not) amend it",

Harold Willert, RR 2 IleumII,
Whose vehicle left Highway 84
and went into the ditch on Friday,

Seniors visit
London by bus
Saturday a bus stopped in the
dark at the town hall in Ailsa
Craig shortly before 6:45 p.m, It
wasn't long before the bus was
filled with 45 area residents off to
enjoy an evening of "something
old and something new".
The group attended a program
of barber shop harmony at
U.W.O.'s Alumni .Hall which left
everyone humming after the
program had ended.
Following the concert the
group stopped at the Knotty Pine
for refreshments before retur-
ning home.
At the euchre game at the
Activity Centre Wednesday af-
ternoon, Alex Smith took the
prize for men's high score with
Albert Armstrong winning the
men's low. Shirley Williams and
Bessie O'Neil took home the
prizes for ladies high and low
respectively.
Lone hand winner was Cecil
Morgan and the special prize
went to Mrs. Charles Bannister.
There were eight tables of
players,
The next card game is planned
for November 16 at the Activity
Centre.
Twenty-eight residents of Main
St, this week presented Exeter
council with a petition asking that
the area between Victoria St. and
the river be zoned as residential,
While this is the designation
given to the properties under the
proposed new official plan, there
were numerous requests from the
commercial owners in that area
to have the entire street
designated as commercial. This
was also the designation
suggested by the planning board.
A memo placed before council
by Mayor Bruce Shaw suggested
that council leave the area as
residential and give the com-
mercial operators "status
zoning".
Speaking for the residential
owners' delegation at Monday's
council meeting, Ed Gackstetter
said they took "strong op-
position" to the suggestion it be
designated as commercial. He
noted this could result in a
"haphazard jungle" of shops and
houses and would not enhance the
appearance of the area.
He explained that the area was
presently well maintained and
the residents desired to continue
to enjoy the quality of that en-
vironment in the years to come,
The petition noted that the
residential owners were not
opposed to progress, but they did
not want to give way to com-
mercial use in the area
represented,
There was little debate on the
subject as council approved the
suggestion in the memo from the
Mayor that the area be left as
residential with the "status
zoning" given to the commercial
owners.
A letter was received later in
the meeting from C. V. Laughton
on behalf of Sherwood (Exeter)
Ltd. that their property be left as
commercial.
Another letter was received
from Mr. and Mrs, G. Wurm
