Good show
by runners
Athletes from South Huron
District High School turned in an
excellent performance at the
annual all-Ontario cross country
meet held at North Bay on the
weekend.
Coach Joe Fulop said it was the
most successful season ever for a
cross country team from the
school.
The senior girls who won the
WOSSA championship showed
well in a race with more than 300
competitors. Lucy VanEsbroeck
was 11th while her sister Dorothy
was 19th.
Others on the team which
finished eighth as a unit in a
record time for the school were
Diana Verlinde, Jayne Dougall
and Patti Down.
Coach Fulop said Paul Wareing
stunned everyone with an 11th
place finish in the senior boys
competition. He added, "For a
first year senior this was an
outstanding performance."
Other local competitors were
Wes Abbott and Paul Van
Esbroeck. These are the only two
members of the team which will
not be back next year.
Fulop concluded "our team
should really be improved next
year, especially the Van
Esbroeck girls and Paul
Wareing."

1 at the home of Joan Kerslake.
The meeting opened with the 4-H
pledge and the roll call was
answered by all present. A
special guest at the meeting was
Miss Bea McClenaghan the Home
Economist.
The girls discussed that fruits
make natural garnishes and
accompaniments. Spicy fruits
such as crabapples and pears are
popular accompaniments for
meat courses.
They discussed different ways
of preparing or combining fruits
to make tidbits that can take
place of . candy. A colourful
selection of fruits, cheese and
crackers skillfully arranged on a
large flat plate or tray can serve
as a decoration and dessert.
They also discussed fruit
fondues. Fondues are popular
desserts for small informal
dinner parties or evening snacks.
Cheryl Parsons demonstrated
how to prepare caramel fondue.
Everyone participated in
preparing apples, oranges,
pineapples and pears for dipping
into the fondue.
For accompaniment, Mrs.
