The November meeting of the
U.C.W. of Zion United Church
was family night, with a potluck
supper supervised by Nola Ratz,
Bernice Fritz, Velma Russell and
Irene Finkbeiner.
Norma Fahner was in charge
of devotions the theme of which
was stewardship. Helen Hey and
Mary Ellen Schlenker gave
readings and Jackie Pierce read
the Scripture. Doug and Edith
Gill sang with Florence Fink-
beiner accompanying them.
Ella Morlock introduced the
guest speaker, Rev. L.G. Stairs,
field secretary of the Leprosy
Mission, Brantford. Using
coloured slides for illustration he
gave a vivid account of leprosy in
the world today. There are 15 to
20 million sufferers, some of
whom live in Canada, Seventy
percent of the cases respond to
treatment at moderate cost.
The remaining 30 percent,
drug-resistant, are much more
costly ' to treat. However, the
greatest need of the mission is not
funds but workers. Rev,. Bruce
Pierce thanked the speaker and
led in a closing prayer.
During the business session roll
call was answered by naming
something one recalled
nostalgically. Jackie Pierce ,
Nola Faist, Edith Gill and
Jeanette Lamport reported what
they had learned at Enrichment
Day, Centralia, October 18.

Tucked away on a residential
sideroad about two miles south of
Grand Bend is a school that as
Pele put it 'is for the kids.' The
Huron Hope Day Nursery School,
located in the Alhambra Hall is a
day school intended to give
Children with a learning
disability a chance at.developing
the skills which they have at their
disposal.
At present there are six
children enrolled, with ages
ranging from four to eight.
• 'It's the level of progression
and not the age which is the
important factor,' says Joan
Smith, school supervisor.
One of the things which the
school emphasizes is developing
the motor development skills of
the children. Such activities as
the obstacle course, circle time
which requires rhythmic singing
and clapping, help to enhance
their motor skills.
One of the reasons for the
establishment of the nursery,
which operates four half days per
week, was to allow for the orderly
progression to the Huron Hope
day school at Huron Park and
then possibly to some form of
sheltered workshop such as Are
Industries at Dashwood.
