Over 100 registered, Coming from Stratford, St. Marys, West Lorne, Rodney, Strathroy, St. Thomas, London, Lambeth, Ingersoll,Woodstock and Kirkton. After the guests registered they were presented with a corsage and a bag containing products donated by the businesses in the area, Following coffee, the meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. Pauline Richards, London and Mrs. Ellis Strahan, Kirkton president welcomed the guests, Rev. J. W. Seibert, Stratford gave the in- vocation and Memorial. Reports were given by the director, secretary, treasurer and each society gave their highlights for the past year. Herb Markle, Guelph, president of the Ontario Hor- ticultural Association brought greetings and also conducted the election of officers which are as follows. District Director, Mrs. Pauline Richards, London; Assistant Director, Mrs. Jean Mackey, Strathroy; Secretary, Mrs. Ivah Manson, Woodstock,' Treasurer, Miss Jean Copeland, Woodham, Don Simpson, reeve of Blan- shard township and warden of Perth County brought greetings. A delicious hot chicken dinner was served by Dixie Lee of St. Marys, In the afternoon Kathy Cruickshank, Education and Information Co-ordinator with the Upper Thames River Con- servation • Authority .gave an illustrated talk on Conservation in the Upper Thames district, A discussion period followed, An invitation was extended by the Woodstock .Horticultural Society to host the 1978 annual meeting, It was decided to hold a one day workshop in London early in 1978 on flower arranging, judging, etc. Rev. Seibert and Mrs. Herb Markle judged the entries in the flower show and the winners were as follows: (1) "One for the Squirrels" — Woodstock, Stratford, London; (2) "Harvest Moon" — Stratford, St. Marys, London; (3) "Mums the Word" — Strathroy, Woodstock, Kirkton. Kirkton club is host District horticulturists meet By MISS ELLA MORLOCK The Women's Institute held their October meeting in the community hall, Wednesday evening, Roll call was answered by naming something one was thankful for. Mrs. Cliff Kenney gave a report on the 80th annual convention held recently at Kitchener. Mrs. Harvey Andrews reported on the area convention held at Vanastra and Mrs, Hubert Cooper the fall rally at Howick. The sum of $100 was voted to the South Huron Rec Centre. The Institute will provide the annual Christmas banquet for senior citizens. Mrs. Bruce Shapton was chairman for the program. Mrs. Shapton, Mrs. Gerald Dearing, Mrs. Kenney, Mrs. Norman Eveland presented Pennies for Friendship, a skit they had enacted at the district annual. Mrs. Ed Lamport gave a reading on Thanksgiving. By using questions and answers, Mrs. Shapton conducted a study on the family. Mrs. Eveland led in two contests, The next meeting, an open one, will be held Tuesday, November 15. Ron Bogart, Exeter, is to show slides of his trip to Russia. Bridal shower Friday evening a shower was held in "Zion United Church to NAIIONAI UNICEF DAY Efe 111/ October 31 honour Susan Schenk. Mrs. Ken Nelson supervised the registration of guests, and Mrs, Alf Smith chaired the program. Karen Hodge gave a reading. Mrs. Peter Martin sang, ac- companied by Mrs. Paul Schenk. Mrs. Sam King lead in a contest and read the address. Lori and Tammy Schenk, Mrs. John Bierling and Linda Neeb assisted Susan in opening the gifts. Personals Irving Stahl has been released from St. Joseph's Hospital where he was a patient for several weeks. He underwent special treatment and surgery on his heel which has caused considerable trouble since his hip operation in August. Mrs. Richard Vaughan, Long Beach, California, visited relatives and friends in the area last week. Rev. & Mrs. Bruce Pierce were at Huronview Thursday to assist Mrs. Milford Prouty and Mrs. Ed Finkbeiner in their weekly chapel hour for residents. Rev. Pierce gave a meditation on the Psalms and Mrs. Pierce sang. Mr. & Mrs. Ed Nethercott and family have moved to their new home on Huron Street East, Exeter. To the home they formerly occupied on King Street North have come Mr. & Mrs. Hooper and their four children, from British Columbia Mr. Hooper, a member of the armed forces is stationed in London. Mrs. Richard (Zella Lamport), Vaughan, Long Beach, California, Miss Agnes Lamport, Detroit, visited with Mr. & Mrs, Lloyd Lamport and along with Miss Gertrude Beaver, Exeter visited several cousins in the district. Mrs. L. Howard, Mrs. Els Vandenberg and Mrs. Anita Giesen were joined there by other 0. M. teachers from Nova Scotia, Quebec and Toronto. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the forming of a Canadian Organization of Natural Family Planning (Billings) teachers. A World Organization Of the Ovulation Method Billings is already formed with its Thamesford Community Center, The guest speaker was Ms. Lyne Gordon, chairperson of the Status of Women Council of Ontario. She is also the author of a best seller on consumers affairs and hosts the TV program The Lyne Gordon Show, Ms, Gordon divided her talk into three parts. (a) the status of women, (b) consumers affairs, headquarters in Australia. Dr. John Billings is the president, The United States is at present drawing up a constitution and within the next twelve months Canada will follow suit. The National group will enable teachers from Vancouver to Halifax to communicate and be as a unified body. Much moral support can be gained by belonging to a country wide and world wide organization. At present the Ovulation Method is being taught in St. Joseph's Hospital on the evening of the first Wednesday of each month at 8 p.m. Anyone is welcome to come and listen. (c) cancer research. She told her audience that the Status of Women Council was demanding a thorough investigation of hor- mone pills and how the public could be ripped off when buying certain products, The entertainment was a delightful program provided by Mrs. Alice Garner of Embro and four of her thirteen children. Sacred, serious, and humorous songs were enjoyed from the group. Mrs. Garner is the newly elected Education Chairman of the Ontario Division of the Canadian Cancer Society. The Lucan Biddulph branch of the Cancer Society would like to offer their appreciation to the "Grain Gals" and their leader Mrs. Allen Debrouwer of the Lucan Two, 4-H club for baking one hundred and fifty cookies for the cancer patients at Thames Lodge of London. Medical science has finally pinpointed many of the changes in body chemistry which take place in joints inflamed by rheumatoid arthritis, says a report from The Arthritis Society. The agency supports continuing research and medical education. Rev.
