Many Thanks
to the Women's Auxiliary members,
volunteers, and the many husbands for their
enthusiasm and long hours of service. Com-
bined with the response of donors and the
public, the Rummage Sale was a huge
success. Thanks again for supporting our
hospital.
Resort woman shows slides
of West coast at WI meeting
The Women's Institute met
Thursday evening at the town
hall with 17 members and friends
present. President Nola Taylor,
presided. A collection of $21.50
was taken to send to South Huron
Hospital for tag day.
A letter frOm the home
economist was read and an-
nounced the 4-H achievement day
will be held at Stephen Central
School, December 3 on
"Featuring Fruit."
An invitation was accepted to
attend a buffet dessert meeting at
Zurich, November 7.
It was unanimously decided to
send a protest letter to council of
Grand Bend, about the Women's
Institute not being able to hold
afternoon meetings at the hall,
Minnie Curts reported on the
annual convention, held this year
at Vanastra at Clinton,
Clara Hamilton reported on the
fall rally held at Howick Com-
munity Centre.
Roll Call was answered by
naming a country, "I would like
to visit,"
A "Did you know" paper on
household hints was given by
Millie Desjardine,
Topic at this meeting was
Citizenship and World affairs.

Orpha Club
plan events
The Orpha club of Grand Bend
met Monday afternoon at the
home of Eva Bariteau with 14 in
attendance. President, Irene
Kennedy was in charge. Mrs.
Bariteau opened with a poem on
"Indian Summer."
Receiving blankets and diapers
were handed in to. go to Lambton
County Childrens Aid. Discussion
followed on combining the annual
pot luck supper and Christmas
party, early in December.
A poem "True gain," was read
by Lillian Brown,
Ulrich hostesses were Alma
Prance and Susie Devine.
Next meeting is scheduled for
November, 1, at Irene Kennedy's
home.

trans Canada highway is in

visit with Hutterite people in
Saskatchewan.
Travelling around Lake
Superior through United States,
she showed pictures of the
beautiful Mormon Temple,
mountain scenery, beautiful
flowers in the Parks in B.C. Lake
Louise and Hot Springs at Banff,
views of the prairies and grain
elevators,
. The motto, "Travel East,
Travel West, after all home is
best," was commented on by
convener, Annie Morenz,
Plans were finalized for the
craft fair coming up November 5,
Lunch hostesses were Nola
Taylor, Jessie Finkbeiner, Eva
Allister and Annie Morenz.
Church news
The C,W.L. met Monday
evening at the Alhambra hall,
with 20 in attendance. Addle
Smeekins, reported on the
Deanery meeting at Sacred
Heart school in October, that she
and Ann Grootjen and Annie
Vandenbygaart attended.
It was decided to cater to the
Alhambra car draw dance to be
held at Taxandria, November 18.
Repercussions and comments
were heard about the protest to
the station and sponsors of
'"Soap" program.
The travelling prize was
donated by Jean Phillips and won
by Greta Vlemmix.
The Grand Bend public school
children supplied special music,
at the morning service at the
United Church, under the
leadership of Mrs. Gail Overholt,
when they sang several lovely
numbers.
Rev. H. Moore's sermon topic
was "What do you want?"
Church of God young people
held a Halloween party, Friday
evening at the home of Mr. &
Mrs. John Steckle, in Dashwood.
Herbert E. Hariton, Shipka
celebrated his 95th birthday
Saturday.
'Mr. Harlton was born raised on
• the farm one and a quarter miles
south of Shipka where he lived for
three different ways it can be
served,"
At this meeting the leaders
demonstrated making an apple
pie from scratch, also one with
bought ingredients,

Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Devine
visited Sunday, in Meaford with
Mr & Mrs. Russ Armstrong.
Mrs.fOlive Miller, her daughter
Linda Miller, Mrs. Raymond
Kading and Valerie Snider, have
returned from a three week
motor trip to the east coast,
through the Maritime provinces
and to Newfoundland and then
home by way of the States, down
to New York, Boston and
Philadelphia.
Mr. & Mrs. Art Webb, have
returned home to Green Acres,
after a six week holiday in Hong
Kong, China, visiting their son,
Rev. and Mrs. Paul Webb, and
family.
Mr. & Mrs. Earl Baker, St.
Thomas visited friends, Saturday
in Grand Bend and area.
Mrs, Grace Lawrance was
admitted Thursday to South
Huron hospital, Exeter and
.Saturday moved to St. Joseph's
Hospital, London where she is in
intensive care. We wish her a
speedy recovery.
Seven ladies from Grand Bend
U.C.W. attended the Huron-Perth
Presbytery meeting, Tuesday at
the United Church in Centralia.
Grand Bend ladies had charge
of the morning worship service.
This was called Enrichment
Day, and theme was "Strength
for today."
Rev. Clifford Campbell, a
missionary from Jamaica,
showed film and slides with
commentary.
Workshops were held both in
the morning and afternoon.
Mrs. Ervin Latta and Lori-
Anne, and Garnet Weiberg,
Waterloo, visited Saturday with
.,Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Devine and
with their father Fred Weiberg at
Blue Water Rest Home.

GRAND BEND
They lived in McGillivray for
awhile and in 1875 moved to
Stephen. He cleared farms in
McGillivray and Stephen and
knew all phases of pioneer life in
the bush,
Herbert born October 22, 1882
was the youngest and is the 'only
surviving member of nine
children. He had four brothers
and four sisters.
October 23 1912 he married the
former Alberta Sherritt and they
had four daughters. Evelyn(Mrs.
Clyde Nicholson), Courtright,
Dorothy at home, Mabel (Mrs.
Carl Guenther), Shipka and
Audrey, ( Mrs. Ken Westman),
London.
In 1963 they moved to Shipka
and his wife passed away in
September 1964, He also has six
grandchildren and four great
grandchildren, Two grand-
children John and Janet Guen-
ther passed away in December
1969 and May 1970. There are
also nieces and nephews.
Mr. Harltori has always been
an active member of Greenway
United Church, and a member of
the session for many years,
His family celebrated his birth-
day Sunday with open house in
the afternoon, followed by a
family dinner. Relatives came
from as far away as Calgary
Alberta for this special occasion,
