Members of the Lucan
Women's Institute entertained
members from the branches of
Clandeboye and Granton at their
October meeting on Wednesday
evening, in the Masonic Hall.
Mrs. Gary Jones, Mrs.
Clarence Hardy, Mrs. Keith
Dickson and Mrs. Emerson
Degraw, the Lucan Ladies'
Barbershop Quartette, en-
tertained the group with several
much enjoyed numbers,
Mrs. James Lock*, convener
for Family & Consumer Affairs,
introduced the guest speaker,
Miss Diane Murphy, the district
manager for Consumer Services
of the Dept. of Consumer and
Corporate Affairs, who spoke
most interestingly of the work
her department is doing
She said they regulate business
• to protect the consumer, provide
safety against hidden hazards,
implement standard care in
labelling and packaging and
correct misleading advertising,
etc.
Miss Murphy the quartette and
lunch committee were thanked
by Mrs. M.H. Hodgins, P,R.O.,
and Mrs. Cecil Robb, one of the
branch directors presented Miss
Murphy with a token remem-
brance from the Lucan members.
Members and guests answered
the roll call "Where I met my
husband" - or "my first date with
my husband", which created
much laughter. Mrs. E. Dann of
Granton expressed thanks to
Lucan Branch for entertaining
the neighbouring groups.
Earlier the Lucan members
had met for a brief business
meeting, chaired by President
Mrs, L, Ashton during which we
were asked to send dairy
products recipes to the Home
Economist, Mrs. Carol Crerar,
Department of Agriculture and
Food, 195 Dufferin St., London,
for incorporation into a cook book
on dairy products.
Members were invited to the
4H Achievement Day for "The
Cereal Shelf" at 1:15 pm

The Elimville United Church
Women met Monday evening.
The president Mrs. Philip Johns
opened the meeting with a poem
"Trees". The roll call was answered by
many of the members in-
treclugng the guest they had
brought with them, 'Mrs. Philip
Hero read a poem "We Thank
You",
Mrs. Wm, Allen read the
scripture. Mrs. Dennis Rowe
read an article on "Remem-
brance Day". Mrs. Hern led in
prayer, followed by a very in-
formative article on the
Dominican Republic in the
Caribbean. Mrs. Rowe and her
sister Mrs. pan Coward sang two
duets. Mrs. Hern introduced the
guest speaker Mrs. Stewart
Miner of Exeter, "Church and
Society" was the subject she
chose. Mrs. Elson Lynn thanked
Mrs. Miner, for her informative
topic and presented her with a
gift.
Mrs. Freeman Horne favored
with a piano selection and Mrs.
Johns resumed the chair for the
business part of the meeting.
The Elimville U.C.W. are in-
vited to the Thames Road U.C.W.
meeting November 7.
Everybne who attended
Enrichment Day at Centralia
gave one highlight of the day,
Mrs. Wm. Routly announced
there would be a quilting
bee Thursday at the church.Mrs.
Johns closed the meeting with a
poem "Stewardship of Caring".
A social hour follwed.
The Thames Road-Elimville
messengers will hold their
Halloween party Thursday
evening at Elimville Church at
7:30 p.m. All children in the two
congregations are welcome.

4H Club Meets
The fifth meeting of Elimville
11 4-11 club was held October 24 at
Deb Taylor's. The roll call was
answered by all present.
The next meeting is to be held
on November 1 at Donna Ker-
slake's. The girls discussed that
salt adds flavor to pastry and
pastry flour makes a flaky crust.

The Exeter Kinsmen club held
their fourth general meeting on
Thursday at the Huron
Restaurant,
During the meeting it was
motioned that the club should
sponsor a dance on Friday,
February 3. The dance will be
held at the South Huron Rec
Centre with Roger Quick
providing the entertainment,
The club has organized two
bottle drives for the near future.
The first is taking place on
Saturday, November 5 arid is to
be held in conjunction with the
Exeter Minor Hockey
Association. The second drive'is
scheduled for Saturday, January
7.
Before closing, it should be
noted that the club will be
competing in a hockey tour-
nament in Monkton on the 28th of
January.
