Good future
for sitters
By JOY SCHEIFELE
From the enthusiasm and
perception displayed by the nine
young people currently taking
the babysitting course being
offered in Ailsa Craig, it appears
that the community should have
an excellent core of good
babysitters in the near future,
The course, offered by. Fan-
shawe College, has consisted of
ten hours of instruction, plus a
three hour practical experience
stint.
Instructor, Mrs. Phyllis Lodge,
said she found the students "very
responsive and enthusiastic".
Part of their course involved
making up babysitting kits, and
they came up with some terrific
ones".
Each participant was asked to
complete a kit containing ac-
tivities and diversions for young
children of various ages.
"Several of the kits were
decorated on the outside as well
with clocks with moveable hands
and such like", reported Mrs
Lodge.
Throughout the time of in-
struction films dealing with child
development were shown, the
O.P.P., St. John Ambulance and
the V.O.N. spoke to students.
The classes have been held
each Saturday afternoon for the
past month at the former Ailsa
Craig Public school. At the
conclusion of the instructional
period last Saturday, the nine
participants wrote an exam
which will qualify them for a
diploma in babysitting from
Fanshawe College.
