Mrs. M.H. Hodgins attended the Women's Institute Procedures Workshop held Monday, October 17, in the Ilderton Community Hall. Mrs. Clarence Diamond of New Hamburg, an executive member of the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario, led the discussion. It was a most in- formative day and the many points brought out will be put to good use in the Branches during the coming year. It was spon- sored by the executive of the North Middlesex District, at Wesley-Willis United Church, Clinton, Friday. Speakers from Goderich, Seaforth, Wingham, Exeter, Mitchell and Clinton weekly papers with their humorous and helpful hints were most in- teresting, A delicious dinner prepared by the church ladies followed by a tour of the Goderich Signal Star where the weekly papers are printed, completed the day. By MISS JEAN COPELAND WOODHAm Mr, & Mrs. Clarence Thomson were surprised Tuesday evening, the date being their 25th wedding anniversary, when relatives and friends called to give them a chivaree. Miss Jean Copeland attended a shower for Mrs. Mike Carney and baby Meagan Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Gordon Youlton, St. Marys, The community was shocked to learn of the passing of William Rundle following an accident Wednesday. Our sympathy goes out to the family and also in the passing of Mrs. Rundle's father, the late Albert Scott a few days earlier. The flowers in the church Sunday were pla'ced there by the family of the late William Rundle and Albert Scott, Mr. & Mrs. William Strong and girls, Seaforth and Mr. & Mrs. Grant Skinner and girls, Exeter were Sunday guests with Mr,& Mrs, William Spence and family. Mr. & Mrs. Donald Morphy, Cheryl and Rod, London visited Sunday with Dr. and Mrs. George Morphy. Mrs. K. Casciotti, Capreol is spending some time with Mr. & Mrs. Fred Parkinson, Margaret and Janet. Mrs. Fred Parkinson is a patient in St. Mary's Memorial Hospital following 'surgery. We wish her a speedy recovery. Fred Doupe, St. Marys visited Sunday with Mr. & Mrs, Don Brine, Cheryl and Daryl? Chief counsellor Mrs. Wm, Froats conducted opening Ceremonies for five girls of the Lucan explorers, Jape Thompson was voted and installed Chief Explorer until January when her twin sister Jean takes over until May, In the first gold star ceremony these girls received their's for making posters on the topic explorers, The girls discussed Unicef and saw pictures of children in other lands and will be collecting for Minister begins series on James At the service in Lucan United Church last Sunday, Rev, Keith Brown commenced a series on the book of James, He told the congregation that James cuts across all sham and hypocrisy, and teaches that true Christianity reaches into every aspect of life. He said that most Christians are shocked that temptations and trials still come their way when they have given their lives to Christ, and as we study James we will understand how to overcome temptations. What if we fail the test? Then we can come to God in prayer, say we are sorry and will try to do better. We are given another chance to prove ourselves, and as Christians we know that our lives are safe in His hands. The choir, under the direction of Helen Brown, and with Mrs. Emerson Degraw taking the solo parts, sang "Balm of Gilead", Rev. & Mrs. Brown and the manse committee cordially in- vite members and friends to an Open House at the Manse on Sunday, October 23, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm when you will have the opportunity to see the very large project completed in refurbishing the Manse.
