told of Europe trip
Continuing their study of the
book, "Justice not charity" Mrs.
Erie Mansfield pin-pointed some
of the concerns and solutions for
a new global economic system at
the October meeting of unit two of
Hensall U.C.W. Monday evening.
The rise in oil prices demanded
by OPEC, begun in 1972 and
continuing to this day took away
total control of the world
economic system from the in-
dustrialized nations. The New
International Economic Order
proposed by the UN aims at
reducing the dept of developing
countries, by improved food
production and increased in-
dustry.
What has Canada done?
Through 'C I D A aid has been

help is slowed because of
Canadians' lack of knowledge of
what is being done, On October
14, Canada started on a
programme of dept cancellation,
to be followed by other countries,
and in future will give outright
grants. But a lot more is needed
by the suffering in un-
derdeveloped countries.
Her talk was followed by a
film , "Man and his resonrces",
Mrs. Rodger Venner gave the
devotional based on the
Beatitude, "Blessed are the
peacemakers". Everyone is
interested in peace, but the seeds
of peace must be planted before
God's garden will grow, A
hypocrite is a person without
peace, making decisions leads to
peace. She closed with the prayer
of St. Francis of Assisi. At the
start of the devotional, Mrs.
Donna St, John sang, "The Lord
is my shepherd" and following
the film, "You'll never walk
alone".
Mrs. Ron Mock chaired the
meeting and opened with a poem
"If we bad to pay" and closed
with another, "The organ
player".
At the business session, con-
ducted by Mrs. Carl Payne, all
who helped at the arena bake sale
were thanked and Mrs. Ian
McAllister and Mrs. Carl Payne
agreed to attend the Enrichment
Day at Centralia October 18,
Flowers will be placed in the
Sanctuary during November: In
closing, the Mizpah benediction
was repeated by all,
To conclude the evening, all
gathered round a beautifully laid
lunch table and enjoyed home-
made fruit bread, tea and coffee.
Hostess was Mrs, Cecil Pepper.

The 55th Anniversary of the
present United Church was ob-
served Sunday with a large
congregation, including many
visitors, in attendance.
Rev. Harley Moore of Grand
Bend was the guest minister in
charge of the service and
delivered an inspiring and
challenging sermon on
"Growing, Going Christians",
Using as his text, "And the
hand of the Lord was with them",
he pointed out that the growing,
going Christians are men and
women who are willing to grow in
knowledge of Christ. The
speaker went on to say that to
maintain a healthy body we must
have a balanced diet.
To be a good Christian we must
become involved and not try to
get by with an occasional ap-
pearance in church. A church can
only be as strong as we make it.
The choir under the direction of
Douglas Gill sang two anthems.
Bob Heywood was assisted by
Calvin Horner in presenting two
musical selections that were
greatly appreciated by their
listeners.
The flowers, fruits, vegetables
and leaves made an attractive
autumn setting for the service.

in charge of Rev. Victor Baker of
Kitchener.
