Anyone still wishing to register can still do so by phoning 235-1576 or 235-2877. During the past summer, area skaters have not been idle. Those passing CFSA tests include: Swing Dance — Sueanne Adkins, Brenda Bell and Karla Josephson, ' European Waltz — Debbie Josephson, Bronze Free Skate — Eleanor Salmon. Harris Tango - Audrey Adkins. For the benefit of the bean counters at the Exeter Fall Fair, the number of beans in the jar was 3,009. Bill Harvey, Exeter, was the winner of the calculator, with a guess of 3,006. Thanks to Harvey Pfaff for this donation. Upcoming events include a skate-a-thon, scheduled in the South Huron Rec Centre this Saturday afternoon, October 22, from 1 to 6 p.m. Proceeds are to go to the South Huron Recreation Centre and to the figure skating club. This event is open to all — both young and old. All you need is a pair of skates and a sponsor sheet! This is one of the first events scheduled in the new arena. Come out and enjoy yourself! A dance has been scheduled for Saturday, November 5, in the &H. Rec. Centre, with music being provided by Country. The skating season will start in early November, Two professional instructors will be working with the skaters this year. Brad Loosley is back, and will be assisted by Mrs. Margaret Carey. Taking the top prizes in the three flights with the lowest gross scores were Dave Boltzmann, Paul Van Gerwen and Ron Broderick, Holtzmann fired a 68 to take "A" flight honours, Next in low gross came Bob Fletcher and Jim Russell at 82 and 84, respectively. Low net went to Jim Guenther followed by Dennis Smith and John Charrette. In the "B" flight John Van Gerwen's 84 was the low gross score. Next came Gord Ross and Ivor Small at 86 and 90. Taking the low net prizes were Larry Wein, Dennis Rowe and Mike Caldwell. Ron Broderick's 92 was the low gross score in the "C" flight. Placing second and third were Chuck Doxtator and Clarence Ferguson. Berend 500 Win over Wingham The Hawks were back in exhibition action Tuesday night as they scored a 7-3 victory over the Wingham Ironmen. The Hawks came up with a balanced scoring attack with two goals in each of the first and third periods and three in the middle frame. In the first period, Brion Penhale and Jamie Caldwell were the Exeter marksmen. Captain Jim Ferguson picked up two assists and Fred Mom- mersteeg helped on one goal. In the second session, Brion Penhale, Randy Parsons and Randy Fisher hit the scoring mark. Matt Muller was a double assister and Fred Mommersteeg nabbed one assist. The local Hawks officially open the Ontario Hockey Association season Friday night as they meet their arch rivals the Lucan Irish at the new South Huron Rec Centre. Pre-game festivities will get underway at 8:15 p.m. The Hawks will be back in action on home ice Sunday night when they face the Port Stanley Lions. Penalties played a big part in Friday's exhibition games as each team scored four goals while the opposition was shor- thanded Mitchell moved in front by 2-1 after the first 20 minutes of play on goals by Mike Avery and Dennis Fischer.
