Breaks leg
in accident
A Kettle Point girl sustained a
broken leg when she was involved
in an accident with a car in Grand
Bend last week.
Tracey George, RR 2 Forest,
was walking in the vicinity of the
intersection of Main and Queen
St. when the accident occurred.
Driver of the vehicle was Robert
J. Newton, Cincinatti, Ohio.
The girl was transferred by
Hoffman's Ambulance to
University Hospital, London,
Constable R. L. Hodge of the
Pinery OPP investigated.
On Saturday, Constable Hodge
investigated a car-fence accident
involving a vehicle owned by
Philip Rutherford, Thedford, and
a fence owned by Earl Stubbs,
Northville.
The vehicle was driven by an
unidentified driver and damage
was estimated at $350 to the car
and $25 to the fence.
The other accident was in-
vestigated on October 2 by
Constable G. W. Clark. It in-
volved three vehicles on Highway •
21.
Drivers included Maryann
Kelders, RR 2 Grand Bend;
Robert Melvin Stokes, Oil City;
and Dorothy Marie Jones, Port
Huron.
Total damage was listed at $650
and Jones sustained minor in-
juries.
During the week, the Pinery
OPP laid 25 charges under the
Highway Traffic Act, three under
the Liquor Licence Act and one
under the Narcotic Control Act.
There were three break, enter
and theft investigations and one
impaired driver charged.

Area church groups unite
for ecumenical Thanksgiving
AND .DISTRICT New
The United Church ladies
hosted the Thanksgiving
Ecumenical at the Church.
Tuesday evening, with over 60
attending,
Marlene Brenner opened the
worship service with
Thanksgiving hymns and prayer,
and read three short stories,
titled "Social Worker", "Atta
Boy God", and "Beauty in
Simplicity".
From Greenway United
Church Karen Guenther played
two lovely piano numbers, "The
Bells of St. Mary's", and "How
Great Thou Art,"
From Church of God, Janet
Desjardine sang a solo, "Try to
be a Blessing", accompanied by
Betty Campbell on piano.
Roberta Walker, from the
Catholic Church read two poems
"Color" by Marjorie Holmes, and
a "Thanksgiving Prayer."
Guest speaker was Nona
Hemingway who is Provincial
Director for Retardation and on
the Lambton Social service
steering committee for child
abuse. She told about education
for the retarded and what could
be done about child abuse.
After the meeting all met in the
Sunday School rooms for a
smorgasbord lunch served by the
north group.
Church News
Thanksgiving services were
observed in the local Churches
with many decorations of flowers
and fruits and vegetables.
At Church of God the sermon
text, by Rev. J. Campbell was
"Always give thanks," taken
from 5th chapter Ephesians,
verse 20. The choir anthem

rendered was "Our Glad
Thanksgiving."
Rev. H. Moore's sermon topic
at the United Church was, "In all
things be thankful," The choir
anthem was "Harvest Home."

Mrs. Margaret Maven of
Guelph visited recently with
Buelah Holt, Mrs. Nola Taylor
and Mrs. Alec Hamilton attended
the Women's Institute Rally, held
at Howick Community Centre,
Monday,
Congratulations to Larry and
Paula Taylor on the birth of a
baby Tuesday.
Diane Holt, daughter of Erwin
Holt and the late Mrs. Holt and
Verner Sorensen were united in
marriage Friday evening at the
United Church. Bridesmaid was
Debbie Holt, sister of the bride
and best man was Erling
Frederiksen, friend of the groom.
Seniors have
games, jokes
The Golden Age Club of Grand
Bend met Wednesday afternoon
at the Village Inn Retreat with 31
in attendance.
President, William Love
presided. The District Rally will
be held at Brussels on October
12th and several members plan to
attend.
During the social time,
members told jokes and stories
and a sing-song was enjoyed led
by Wellwood Gill,
The balance of time was spent
playing various games, and lunch
served by Inn staff.
The groom's father and brother
and his wife and children from
Denmark attended. The young
couple will reside in Dashwood.

returned Monday evening from a
two week trip to the West Coast
by train, visiting in Vancouver
with the Kennedy's daughter
lizabeth, who is attending
Simon Fraser University there,
doing Post Graduate studies.
Alex Desjardine moved from
his farm Thursday, to the home
on Gill Road that he purchased
from Melvin Peariso. Mr.
Peariso has left Grand Bend to
live in Arizona.
Enroute on his trip south he
visited in Hamilton with his
daughter, Mr. & Mrs. Alan Kraul
and Jennifer and with his son Mr.
& Mrs, Gordon Peariso and
Michael, of Calgary.
John James (Jack) Keay
passed away at his residence in
Grand Cove on Sunday October 2,
1977, in his 66th year. Survived by
his wife Olga Saunders, one
daughter (Patricia) Mrs. Rob
Resko, one son Stephen, two
grandchildren and a sister
Dorothy Keay of Toronto.
The body rested at the T. Harry
Hoffman funeral home, Dash-
wood, then to "Scarborough
Chapel" of McDougall and Brown
Ltd., where service was held
October 4 with interment at
Highland Memory Gardens.
Mr, Keay recently retired as
Commissioner of Scarborough
Recreation and Parks. During his
20 years with the commission he
saw 50,000 trees planted and the
completion of 20 pools, 10 arenas
and 1,500 acres of parkland.
Population rose to 400,000 from
100,000, his budget increased to
$8.8 million from $150,000 and his
permanent staff climed to 277
from 10.
Mr, & Mrs. Keay retired to
their home in Grand Cove
Estates last December.

TANKS PLACED — Two powerful cranes gently eased the two water tanks, each weighing 145 tons into
position at the new Lake Huron Water Supply Pumping station at Brinsley Wednesday. The tanks each
measure 120' long and were lowered into their holding positions by one 165 ton crane and a second 200
