Taylor continued, "This is an increase of about $1,500 from last year. We are going to pay $30 per hour for ice time at the Vanastra arena. The rate paid for the Hensall arena last year was $20 hourly." The Hensall Association will be sponsoring pee wee and bantam teams in the WOAA this winter while the midget aged players will join a Zurich team. About six hours of ice time per week at Vanastra will be used by Hensall youngsters. A Saturday morning house league is being planned for boys 10 years of age and younger. The tee for registration for pee wee and bantam aged boys will be $25 for this year. Secretary Taylor said his group has sent out letters to Hensall and area businesses asking for financial support. In addition a number of dances and draws are being planned. Sports Spotlight Series on It's World Series time again when baseball fans everywhere come out of the woodwork, but this year the an- Dual fall classic has sneaked up on a lot of people, Anyone watching television coverage of the American and National league playoffs on the NBC network heard lit- tle about the current World Series which started Tuesday, This year the World Series is being carried on ABC with Howard Cosell, Keith Jackson and Bob Vecker handling the play by play, Mhny people shudder of having to endure through seven possible evenings with Howard Cosell, but, we don't believe there will be many avid baseball fans who will turn off their sets because of Howard. A recent football poll by Sports Illustrated might be an indication that most baseball fans will watch the series and enjoy it despite Howard. Football fans were asked who their favorite broad- casters were, Frank Gifford and Don Meredith were tied with the most votes while Howard Cossel topped the category of "worst football announcers" with more votes than Gifford and Meredith put together, It's no coincidence that these three gentlemen appear together each week on ABC's Monday Night Football. This weekly presentation is one of the most watched sports programs on television which should mean the usual number of sports fans will be glued to their tube for the World Series. The series is still one of those annual attractions that seems to slow down the world in general but this year the slowdown will not be quite so severe. All games are being played in the evenings this year which should produce many less headaches and grand- mother funerals. These excuses to get away from work were rampant in years gone by. The change to evenings will make it easier for the average working fan. For those who enjoyed conjuring up excuses to get off work, they can only hope the Chicago Cubs make it to the World Series before lights are installed at Wrigley Field in the windy city. While talking about the Cubs, they increased their attendance this year by more than 400,000 over last year despite playing all their games in the afternoon. The 1977 World Series should be exciting if the playoffs in the two leagues are any indication of what's to come. Both the Yankees and Dodgers proved that a game is not over until the last man is out or like Yogi Berra said recently "a game is not over until it's over." Another comment attributed recently to the Yankee coach was "It gets fate awfully early." Hunting insurance A recent news release from the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters tells of the availability of liability in- surance to hunters and fishermen. Because accidents do happen despite various precautions, this insurance should be a must for all outdoor sportsmen. We would hope the insurance would allow easier access to farm lands for hunters and anglers. This Federal insurance costs only $1.25 for the 17,000 members of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters Inc, The Conservation Pledge of the Federation is as follows: I give my pledge, as a Canadian, to save and faithfully defend from waste, the natural resources of my country, its soil and its minerals, its air, waters, forests and wildlife Doublers take lead in Legion mixed darts Winkers and Out of Space deadlocked for second position. The Nicky Tams follow in third place with 13 points, the Flying Highs have 12, the Sassenachs 11 and the Itchy Niters and Scotties 10 apiece. Keith Brittain has amassed a score of 180 to lead the men in the individual scores while Eileen. Spurn and Doris Dobson lead the women with identical scores of 140, Friday's schedule is as follows: p,m. - Outlaws vs First Chance; Sabres vs Out of Space; The ? vs Scotties; Doublers vs Family Affair; 9:30 p.m. - Sassenachs vs McPfaffs; Shiphunters vs Flying Highs; DR's vs Itchy Niters; Winkers vs Nicky Tams. • Paul VanOss, Exeter, rode his 125 Suzuki to a third place finish in the 25-lap feature race or Buffy's Motocross at Hully Gully, Sunday. Dave McGregor, Toronto, and Wayne Ryerson, Simcoe, beat out VanOss in the one-hour en- durance race. Other area riders were Scott McGregor, Kippen, who placed seventh in the 250 class and Chuck Collins, Varna, tenth in the 25-lap endurance race, Chris Bedard, Zurich, ran his first CMA sanctioned race on Sunday. Class winners were: pee wee, Frank Watts, Queensville; bantam, Rob Hodgson, Cam- bridge; midget, Brent Thomp- son, Bellwood; 125 class, David McGregor; 250 class, Wayne Ryerson, The event concluded motocross races at Hully Gully this season, Those who in quarrels inter- pose must often wipe a bloody nose. —John Gay TimesfAdvocate, October 13,1977 Any man wishing to play Broom Boll for the Hensall Men's League please Contact Bill Munn 262-5096 SHOT BLOCKED — Laurie Skinner who was in the Exeter Hawks net for the second period during Friday's exhibition game against the Lucan Irish blocks a shot from Mike Hooper. T-A photo Football action today If the weatherman has one of his few good days this afternoon, Thursday, the sports field at South Huron District High School should be a good place to visit. The South Huron Panthers will be taking on the football teams from Stratford Northwestern in a doubleheader. The two senior teams will meet at 1:30 while the juniors will tangle at 3 p.m. The same afternoon the Seaforth and South Huron girls basketball teams will meet in the school gymnasium.
