Expect jump
in '79 rate
Hydro rate increases for the
next two years caused plenty of
concern at Thursday's regular
meeting of the Exeter Public
Utilities Commission.
Manager Hugh Davis told
Commission members that the
rate increase for 1978 will not be
as high as expected but he feared
what would happen in 1979.
The Anti Inflation Board has
ordered Ontario Hydro to cut-
back their proposed increases for
1978 by about six percent,
Davis said the increase locally
for next year would likely be
between three and four percent
instead of the expected 9.4 per-
cent.
The Anti Inflation Board or-
dered the cutback because of
increased sales of power to the
United States.
The local manager said his
concern is for 1979. He continued,
"What will probably happen in
1978 is that Ontario Hydro will
ask for an increase, not only for
1979 but for monies to make up
the difference of what the rates
would be in 1978 if it were not for
the rebates ordered by AIB.
The local PUC will announce
the 1978 rates in December
explaining the adjustments as
required by MB and billing in-
serts will be included in the bills
sent out February 12.
Davis concluded, "the increase
for 1979 could be as high as 20
percent."

mission:
