Voices concern
over green area
The Downtown Business
Improvement Area board of
management suggested this
week that council not undertake
any improvement on John St.
West until such time as the
parking authority have finalized
plans for the parking behind the
stores on the west side of Main St.
Gerry Gray suggested in a
letter that the board would like to
see a section of the street closed
off at Main St. and a green area
constructed.
Noting that council planned to
pave John St. West next year, he
suggested it be delayed until the
parking group have made their
recommendations about the
green area suggestion.
Parking authority chairman
Bill Batten told council that plans
for the area were not advanced to
the point of his group being able
to make specific recom-
mendations on the businessmen's
idea at this time, but suggested
that council keep the idea in mind
in planning street work for next
year.
Reeve Si Simmons noted that
any consideration of a green area
would have to take into account
that it would eliminate access to
the west side of the business area
for fire department vehicles.
