WIIMAM ROHDE THAMES ROAP The October meeting of the United Church Women was held on Monday evening with 27 members and five visitors present. The meeting was opened by the president, Mrs. Glen Stewart, who read a Thanksgiving poem. It was decided to send $25 to the foster child in India for Christ- mas, also to give $10 to the Hospital Auxiliary Tag Day. Enrichment Day is to be held October 18 at Centralia United Church at 9:30 a.m. It was decided to entertain some other organizations at the November meeting. Mrs. Stewart closed the business part of the meeting with prayer. Mrs. Fred Johns, program convener, called on Mrs. Cal Christie who showed some of her talents, especially needlepoint pictures which she had done. Mrs. Glen Lamport thanked Mrs. Christie and presented her with a gift. Mrs. Johns opened the worship service with a Thanksgiving Thought and a poem "Continue with a grin," Mrs. Lamport closed with meditation. Mrs. Carl Hume received the Thank-Offering and Mrs. Johns gave the prayer. They attended com- mencement at South Huron District High School on Friday evening, Rob Stewart of Goderich spent the weekend with his parents Mr, & Mrs, Floyd Stewart. Mr. & Mrs. Jack Duncan were guests on Sunday with Constable Barry and Mrs. Oliver and family of New Hamburg, Mr. & Mrs. Ken Duncan were Sunday guests with Mr. & Mrs. Roy Ballantyne of Goderich, Several from this community attended the 25th wedding an- niversary dance for Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Thomson on Friday evening at Kirkton-Woodham Community Centre, Mrs. Florence Heard of Kirkton, William Armstrong of Lieury, Mrs, Mary Thomson of Exeter, Mr. & Mrs. Glenn Jef- fery, Mr. & Mrs. William Rohde attended a dinner given for Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Thomson of Woodham at the 4-Way Inn, Exeter, on Sunday in honour of their 25th wedding anniversary which is October 11, All returned to the home of Mrs. Thomson for a visit and to open their gifts. Elect officers at Elimville By KATHY COOPER ELIMVILLE The First meeting of the Elimville 11 4-H Club was held September 28 at Mrs. Joyce Fulton's. They repeated the 4-H Pledge and answered the roll call. The election of officers was held; president is Donna Ker- slake; vice president is Rosemary Miller; secretary is Joan Cooper and treasurer is Joan Kerslake. The club name is "Preserved Peaches". They discussed the fruits which con- tain vitamin C and A. Rosemary Miller and Cheryl Parsons demonstrated how to make grape sparkle and date mallow chews. Everyone com- mented that the food was delicious. The second meeting of Elim- ville 114-H Club was held October S at Kathy Cooper's. The meeting began with the 4-H Pledge. The next meeting will be on October 11 at 7:00 at Mary John's. Everyone present answered the roll call, For discussion they discussed fruits and where they came from. Karen Johns, Deb Taylor and Joan Cooper demonstrated how to make "Baked Apples". Everyone participated in peeling oranges and grapefruits properly. These fruits were made into fruit cups. Everyone com- mented the food was delicious. United Church Women The Elimville United Church Women met Wednesday evening at the church. The president Mrs. Philip Johns opened the meeting with a poem "A Friend". The roll call was answered by 24 members. Mrs, Wm. Routly gave a manse report. Mrs. Ina Skinner gave a report on her weekend at Westminister in the spring. She closed her report with a poem "When Day Is Done". A donation was given to Five Oakes. The regional meeting will be held at Centralia United Church on October 18 at 9:30. Mrs. Bison Lynn and Mrs. Horace Delbridge were in charge of the program. Mrs. Lynn read an article "Strangers Within" from the study book "World Outreach" and Mrs. Lynn and Mrs. Delbridge read a dialogue about what it was like to come from a Car country to Canada, Mr. & Mrs. Hans Gerstenkorn spent the weekend at Orillia with their friends Mr. & Mrs. Ed Gagne of New Liskeard. Linda and Stephen spent the weekend with Mr. & Mrs. Emmerson Johns of Elimville and Mrs. Ina Johns of Exeter. Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Veldhoen, Toronto, and Mrs. L, Veldhoen Van Der Wiel of Rotterdam, Holland, visited with Mr. & Mrs. Sim Roobal last week. Attending the London Area Convention of the Women's Institute at Vanastra on Wed- nesday and Thursday were Mrs. Cecil Pepper, Mrs. Albert Alexander, Mrs. Jim McAllister and Mrs. Carl Payne. Mr, & Mrs. Eric Luther have returned from an enjoyable two week trip to Western Canada. Mr, & Mrs. Kenneth Christian of Napanee called on Friday for a short visit with Mrs. Laird Mickle, Mr, Christian was a former manager of the Bank of Montreal for many years. Mr, & Mrs. Joe Flynn returned home after a pleasant holiday at Kincardine where they enjoyed fishing. Mr. & Mrs. Jack Lewis and family visited Mr. & Mrs. Walter Spencer on Sunday, also the latter's foster son and his wife, Plan service at Centralia By MRS. FRED BOWDEN CENTRALIA • Mr. Murdock Morrison of Varna conducted the service in the United Church Sunday morning. The special music for the service was a vocal duet by Miss Faye Blair and Mr. Doug Gill with Mrs. Gill playing the piano accompaniment. Mr, Morrison will be in charge of the service again Sunday and we hope for a good attendance at the Thanksgiving service. Preparations are under way for the anniversary service Sunday October 16 when the Rev. Harley Moore of Grand Bend will be the guest minister. Persona is Mr. & Mrs. Henry Brown, Barrie were visitors with Mrs. John Thompson one day last week. Miss Joyce Dickey who spent several days with Mrs. Thompson returned to her borne in Port Stanley Thursday. Mr, & Mrs. Tom Kooy attended the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. & Mrs. Tom Gilmour, Lucan, at the Exeter Legion Hall Saturday night. Sunday afternoon they were in London where they attended the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Davis at the Senior Citizens Centre. Sunday evening they were guests at the home of Mr. & Mrs, Wayne Carroll, Saintsbury who were entertaining in honour of Wayne's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Harry Carroll's, 45th wedding anniversary, Mr, & Mrs. Karl Keller and family, London were Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Hirtzel. Mr. & Mrs. Reid Brown and family, Lambeth were Sunday visitors with Mrs. John Thomp- son. Mr. & Mrs. Tam Gallan of Toronto. Edgar Munn spent a few days last week with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr, & Mrs. Don Gooding and Dale at Parkhill, Mr. & Mrs. Charles Rhodes, Chicago, and Mr. & Mrs. George Mickle of Ridgetown, were guests last Thursday with their aunt, Mrs, Laird Mickle.
