Congratulations to Miss Arden
Bryan a violin pupil of Mrs, Lofft
St, Marys, on being awarded a
silver medal from the Western
Conservatory of Music London
for obtaining the highest marks
for the grade 10 exam, Arden will
be awarded her medal at the
Music Convocation at Western
University on November 5.
Mr. & Mrs, John Hutchby,
Calgary, cousins of Mr, & Mrs.
Austin Hobbs visited with them
from Tuesday to Sunday of last
week, The Hobbs' and their
guests were entertained for
dinner Friday evening by Mr. &
Mrs. Clifford McRobert, then on
Saturday Mrs. Hobbs nephew and
his wife Mr. & Mrs. Aubrey
Jameson of Islington were lun-
cheon guests and later Mr, &
Mrs. Wm Egan of Prospect Hill
entertained with a family dinner.

At the United Church Sunday
Rev. Elwood Morden conducted
worship and officiated at the
service of Holy Communion. Rev.
Morden entitled his Meditation
(in keeping with World Wide
Communion Sunday) "One Flock
and One Shepherd". This text
was taken from John 10 — 16;
"And other sheep I have, which
are not of this fold, they also I
must bring, and they shall hear
My voice, and there shall be one
flock and One Shepherd." The

Exeter visited last Sunday with
his sister, Mr, & Mrs. Oscar
Miller, and later they all visited
their cousin, Mrs. Viola Woods of
Port Franks.

spent Saturday at their cottage
near Peterborough and also
visited Eleanor's mother, Mrs.
Peter Wardlaw in Toronto.
Sherri-Lynn Keller, daughter
of Mr. & Mrs, Jack Keller is a
patient, in South Huron Hospital,
Exeter with pneumonia.
Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Morenz,
accompanied by Mr. & Mrs.
Oscar Miller, motored Sunday to
Port Stanley, and also visited in
Komoka with friends, Mr. & Mrs,

Sunday afternoon saw the
moving van and truck piled high
with items leave Ailsa Craig and
head east as the John Brubacher
family moved to the province of
New Brunswick.
The Brubacher family moved
to the Parkhill area from St.

Mrs. Ed Finkbeiner attended
United Church Presbytery at
Walton Tuesday, and the
Stewardship Fair at Mitchell,
Saturday.
Mrs. Harvey Andrews, Mrs.
Gerald Dearing and Mrs. Cliff
Kenney were at sessions of the
Women's Institute Regional
Conference held at Vanastra last
week. The theme of the con-
ference was "Coming together is
a beginning; working together is
progress".
Wednesday evening a shower
was held in the Sunday. School
rooms of Zion United Church in
honour of Brenda Fahner. Mrs.
Dave Cottel gave a reading and
Mrs. Ed Finkbeiner played a
piano solo. Mrs. Lloyd Lamport
read the address before Brenda
opened the gifts.
She was assisted by Debbie
Finkbeiner, Mary Ellen
Schlenker and Mrs. Cottel, Mrs,
Marguerite Finkbeiner con-
ducted a contest
Chester Mawhinney cut the
ribbon at the opening ceremony,
for the New Horizons"Day Care'
Centre at Huronview Friday.
Mrs. Viola Wilson spent the
weekend with Mrs. Rachel
Walker, Glencoe and Mrs. May
Human, Newbury. Bernard and
Chad were with their aunt, Mrs.
Fay Melvin, London.
Mr. & Mrs. Allan Finkbeiner
were in Toronto Saturday to
attend the wedding of Rick Fink-
beiner and Pamela Martin. Rick
is the son of Howard Finkbeiner,
Allan's brother.

tinued with the Girls Home for
five years, full time and later
part time and also worked for the
Martin Tile Co.
Many will recall John and
Lorene through the Parkhill Gift
and Stationery Store which they
ran for several years in Parkhill.
John also worked at both the
Green Gables Nursing Home and
Friendly Acres in the oc-
cupational therapy depart-
ments. From 1964 to 1969 he was
Pastor of the Bethel Chapel.
Moving into ,the Ailsa Craig
area, John accepted the call as
part-time Pastor of the Nairn
Mennonite Church between 1970
and 1972. Exercising his car-
pentry skills, he went into
business for himself in 1972
before joining Craigwood
maintenance staff in 1973 where
he continued until the time of his
departure to New Brunswick.

bake muffins
Lucan No. 2 Grain Gals held
their fourth meeting Wednesday
at Mrs. DeBrouwer's home.
Mary Dewan vice-president
opened the meeting with the 4-H
pledge.
There were six members
present who answered the roll
call to name a cereal grain and
describe one way to use it. The
business was to discuss cover for
books and skit. Mary and Reta
Dewan demonstrated how to
make apple coffee cake and
Karen and Louise Vanderloo
demonstrated how to make bran
muffins.
Janet and Karen Vanderloo
discussed how much bread each
person ate for a week and then for
a year. The girls judged the
muffins when they came out of
the oven.

"We're very much looking
forward to a new way of life,"
explained Lorene. "On the farm
we hope to be able to work more
closely as a family and be
together more."
The family's new farm is
located 25 miles west of Moncton.
The children will all be attending
school at Peticoiak.
Cereal Shelf
studies begin

Thirteen 4-H club girls met at
the home of Mrs. R. J.McFadden
in Ailsa Craig to begin a new
course of study, "The Cereal
Shelf." Various breads as well as
both hot and cold cereals will be
under discussion.
While the girls were unable to
decide upon a suitable name for
their group, the colours of beige
and brown were chosen for their
books.
The girls studied metric con-
version during their meeting and
a demonstration was given on the
baking of brownies. A quiz was
held later as a review,
The executive for the club
includes, president-Malinda
Harmer, vice-president-Kathy
Kilby, and rotating secretaries-
Kathy Kennes, Lori Turner and
Carol McCallum. Leadersinclude
Mrs. R. J. McFadden and Mrs.

The Ailsa Craig ladies softball
team downed Clandeboye 14 to 3
and took the championship with
three out of five games, Wed-
nesday at Ailsa Craig.
The series began with Clan-
deboye winning the first two
games but Ailsa Craig took the
victory winning the final three
games. In doing so they took the
cup from Clandeboye who were
last year's winners and returned
it to Ailsa Craig who were the
champs for the prior three years.

At a meeting at the Scout Hall
Monday evening of both Scouts
and Cubs, yes, we are happy to
report their will be a Scout Troop
in Granton this year, a number of
the Cubs are "moving up."
We welcome Mr. Wesley
Stanley as the new Scout Master,
Wesley was formerly associated
with the Lucan Scout Troop; The
Cubs are again being led by Mrs,
Gordon McRobert and Mrs.
Wilfred Riddell.
C. G.I.T. and Explorer news
The C.G.LT. are meeting in the
United Church basement Wed-
nesday evenings at 7 p.m. this
fall, under the leadership of Mrs.
Marion Gri.cken and Mrs. Betty
Rooney, The girls are busy
working on articles for the
November 5 bazaar.-
The Explorers are also meeting
in the Church basement on
Monday evenings under the
leadership of Mrs. Martin
Vanderminnen. All girls who are
9 years old or in Grade 4 will be
welcome in this group.
Happy Gang meet
The Happy Gang resumed their
meetings Thursday afternoon at
the United Church with Mrs.
Elmer Summers presiding and
opening the meeting with a
harvest hymn, with Mrs. C. B.
Westman at the piano.
Several items of business were
taken care of, including the
decision to have the Christmas
dinner in November and to have
Unit 3 cater for this. A committee
was named to make the
arrangements, An invitation was
extended from the president Mrs.
Gordon Dann, the Friendly
Neighbors Club, to the Happy
Gang to join them in an afternoon
of recreation in the Scout Hall,
October 19. Card games and
crokinole were enjoyed for the
remainder of the afternoon,
Lunch was served by Mrs,
Warren Gregory, Mrs. Clifford
McRobert and Mrs. James Kerr,
Members with birthdays in
August and September and
having their names on the Bir-
thday Cake were Edythe West-
man, Ethel Eedy, Amelia
Jameson, Grace Morden, Warren
Gregory and Cliff Matobert,
