Thursday at Huron Park, the Jets came up with four second period goals to post a 6-4 decision and Tuesday night in Stratford the two clubs played to a 4-4 draw, The Jets will be in Woodstock tonight, Thursday to meet the Woodstock Royals in their final pre-season contest. The first league game for the Lucan- Ilderton club will be Friday night, October 14 when Port Stanley will supply the op- position.' Manager Don Urbshott and coach Jack Chipchase have a practice slated for the Ilderton arena at noon Sunday and again Wednesday evening. The outcome of Tuesday's contest was in doubt until the final whistle, Gerald Weido of last year's Exeter Hawks fired the tying goal for the Jets with only three minutes left in the third period, Assisting were Ed Parkinson and another former S Hawk Rick Ingram. After a scoreless first period, .the Jets scored twice in the middle frame to one reply by the Perths. Jim Blake notched the first on a power play with Jamie Hawks, Irish meet Friday The Junior "D" hockey season in this area gets underway Friday night of this week at the Huron Park arena at 8 p.m. Meeting for the first time in exhibition action will be the 1976- 77 Ontario Junior "D" champion Exeter Hawks and their arch rivals, the Lucan Irish. Coaches of both clubs are optimistic of having successful seasons. Ron Bogart is back at the helm of the Hawks and for- mer Lucan-Ilderton Jets star Bill Bannerman will be handling the coaching duties for the Irish. Robb and Joe •O'ROurke's slap shot hit the mark with assists going to Ian McTavish and Scott Graham. Jim Betts was the Stratford scorer, In the third period, Randy Miller, Jerry Hishon and Jim Betts scored for Stratford and Scott Graham tipped in a shot by Gary Isaac for the Jets to set the stage for Weido's tying marker, Goal tending chores for the Jets were taken care of by Tom O'Flaherty and Dave Homes. The latter was with the Mitchell junior Hawks last year. Four unanswered goals in the second period allowed the Jets to register Thursday's 6-3 victory over Stratford. Jamie Robb and Ian McTavish each scored two goals for the Jets in the middle frame. Robb started the L-I scoring by converting passes from Jacques Cousineau and Gary Isaac at 3.36. About nine minutes later McTavish connected with a hard slap shot. Getting assists were Peter Glover and Barry Baynham. At 15.09 Jamie Robb was back with his second successful shot on passes provided by McTavish and Cousineau. Only 54 seconds later the same three players connected again, This time the marksman was Ian McTavish. In the third period, Stratford outscored the Jets three goals to two, but, two of their scores came in the last four minutes of play. John McKeough initiated the Perths scoring at 3.36 of the final session, but less than six minutes later the L-I margin was again restored as Scott Graham hit the Stratford net on passes from Gary Isaac and Pete Glover. The final score of the night for the winners came from the stick of captain Barry Baynham at 11.40 on an unassisted effort as. he broke loose over opposing blue line and deked the goalie out of position. Scoring the final two goals for Stratford were Gary Hahn and Brian Dundas, Rob Kellestine was in goal for the Jets and kept the Perths blanked for the first 43 minutes of play. Trophies won at gun club Despite day long rains and strong winds, the claybird gun club trophy shoot for 1977 was held Saturday. The men's grand champion is Jody MoSuringjohn who ac- cumulated 144.5 points in skeet, trap and rifle competition. The runnerup was Larry Mason with 143 points and Bill McNutt was third at 140.5. Bonnie McNutt scored 158 points to cop the ladies grand championship with Sue Mason placing second at 145 points. Junior champion Kevin Stanlake scored 170 points to defeat runnerup Mike Sass at 140 points. The ladies and juniors used a different shooting course than the men which accounted for, high rifle scores. The skeet shoot was the biggest event as usual. It found Bill McNutt winning class A with a 41. Jody Mosurinjohn was second at 35. The class B winner was Randy Stanlake with a high skeet score of 48. Larry Mason was next at 35. Bob Snell shot a 36 to win class B in skeet while Doug Bender broke 32 to finish second. ' In the D class Kitchener Pavlick broke 30 to win over Charlie Browning at 24. In trap shooting in class B Bill McNutt was best with a 39 beating Larry Mason who scored 36. The class C winner was Bob Snell with 38 successful shots, Jody Mosurinjohn was second with 37 and Kitchener Pavlick next at 34. The ladies and juniors shot only scoped rifles at slightly larger targets and Bonnie McNutt won this event with a 118 beating Sue Mason's 113. Kevin Stanlake scored 121 and Mike Sass hit an even 100 to take top honours in rifle shooting. In the men's iron sights rifle Shoot only eight points separated the top four competitors. Doug Bender was first at 131 out of 200, Bill McNutt was next at 125 and Jody Mosurinjohn and Larry Mason were deadlocked at 123. The scoped rifle event was won by Jody Mosurinjohn with 167 hits, two more than runnerup Larry Mason. Jets get win and tie, in Woodstock tonight
