Annual Ilderton Fair
starts Friday night.
Sold on world market

The 126th edition of the Ilderton
Fall Fair will be held this
weekend. The Fair opens Friday
night with a talent show at 8 p.m.
More than 20 acts of amateur-
talent have been lined up. The
master of ceremonies will be Jim
Weir of CFPL Radio.
Later in the evening, Miss
Ilderton Fair 1977 will be chosen.
There are seven pretty girls
competing for the crown. The
new Queen will be crowned by
last year's winner Marilyn
McLachlan, RR 4, Kornoka.

accidents investigated this week
by officers of the Lucan detach-
ment of the Ontario Provincial

at Sunday School
A flanneigraph talk on Joseph,
by Barbara Bannerman,
highlighted the presentation of
awards service at Lucan United
Church, Sunday. Superintendent
Ed Melanson was in charge of the
service with Rev. Keith Brown
giving the Pastoral prayer, Loyes
Melanson leading the responsive
reading and Pat Bates taking the
scripture lesson.
Many awards, pins and seals,
were presented but only one pupil
had "perfect" attendance, Jane
Holden, daughter of Anne and
Ross Holden. This Sunday
"Worldwide Communion" will be
celebrated when Christians
throughout the world will come to
the Lord's Table,
This morning, Thursday, at
9.45 the Prayer and Share
, Fellowship will meet in the C.E.
wing. All women of the com-
munity are invited on the second
and fourth Thursday mornings.
The General U.C.W. meeting
has been set forward one week, to
Tuesday, October 4, at 8 p.m.

Counsellors Mrs. Wm. Froats
and Mrs. Henry Kaune treated
the Lucan Explorers to a snack of
hot dogs, pop and cookies at their
opening Expedition held in the
C,E. wing of the Lucan United
Church,
Each girl filled out a
questionnaire on her favourite
game, book, school subject, what
country she would like to visit,
what she likes to do on a school
holiday, etc.
Mrs. Kaune opened the
Expedition by conducting several
games, and Mrs. Froats told a
story "The Bridge Between the
I's". The Expedition closed with
the Explorer Hymn and Prayer,
The next Expedition is called
for Monday, October 17 and
thereafter will convene each
second Monday immediately
after school. All girls of the
community between the ages of 9
and 11 are invited to come and
join this happy group.

Grain Gals bake

The Lucan No. 2 Grain Gals
held their third 4-H meeting
Wednesday at Mrs. VanderLoo's
house. The pledge was said by
eight members who were
present,
The meeting started with a
demonstration since things had to
be baked. Reda Dewan and Janet
Vander Loo made nuts and bolts.
Elizabeth and Mary Louise
Morgan made cherry bran
squares, After these dishes were
put in the oven the girls answered
the roll call which was "my list of
cereal products with which I am
familiar."
Then each showed the cereals
that we brought from home.
Rosemary Boland read a
catalogue of cereals from the
members pamphlet. Karen
Vander Loci read parts from the
pamphlet "The land of wheat and
flour."
After having found a name for
th$ , club, they discussed
homework and decided who
would cook what at the next
meeting.

fridge andstove. The president
commended this group for their
action.
Kathleen Neil gave a very
interesting and humorous
reading, prier to the playing of
euchre and the continuance of the
ceramics course, Kathleen Neil
won lady's high, Rose Atkinson,
lone and Lois Thompson, low.
Man's high was won by Fred
Mcllhargey, lone by Olive
Atkinson, playing a man's card
and Lon Phillips, low.
Set objectives
for missions
The Mission and Service
committee of the Lucan-
Clandeboye charge met in the
C,E. wing of Lucan United
Church on Monday evening, to
discuss ways and means of
meeting the charge objective for
the year 1977,
Treasurer, Mrs. C. B. Culbert,
announced that only 59 percent of
the objective is in and the end of
the year is fast approaching.
Minute talks will be given one
Sunday a month in October,
November and December to
arouse more interest and a
missionary on furlough is to be
invited to speak one Sunday next
month, or early November.
Members of the churches are
urged to keep in mind the great
need in the developing countries
where hundreds of thousands go
to bed hungry each night, star-
vation is a way of life and many
children are blinded or even die
of malnutrition,

difference in helping to teach the
hungry to feed themselves, but
they cannot do it without our
help.

Mrs. Karl Young has returned
from a trip to England, Ireland
and Scotland and reports a
wonderful time with excellent
weather, it having rained only
part of one day, Mrs. Young
speaks very highly of the
culinary skills of the cooks it all
the hotels,motels Where they
were provided breakfast and
dinner, included in the tour, as
well as many of their morning
and afternooh breaks. She would
go back again next year and
recommends their particular
tour to all her friends, Mr.. & Mrs, Harold Lane of
