Don't just paint your house. Draught-proof it. Valuable heat escapes from a home around doors and windows, through narrow gaps where window and door frames are set into the wall, and where glass is loose in the frame. Well-fitting storms and weatherstrip, caulking compound, and fresh putty will all help to draught-proof your house. You'll be stopping leaks that may account for 25% or more of the heat lost from an otherwise well-insulated home ...so you'll be improving comfort, and conserving energy, too, EXETER PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION M. Room 203 in the high school is now unofficially a Computer Studies Room. Unofficially because the Ministry of Education and the Huron County Board of Education have had nothing to do with it, The Ministry of Education has a $35,000 grant program for equipping Computer Studies Rooms in high schools, but so far the Huron County Board of Education has not seen fit to take advantage of it. But Room 203 has a -Computer in it and it is there for student use and that is the important thing according to Mr. Long who teaches computer courses and accounting. After working fqr two years on a proposal to have the Board equip a Computer Studies Room Mr. Long gave up hope of any success and bought a small computer system himself. It consists of a SWTP 6800 micro- computer, a terminal keyboard, a 12 inch television set for output, and an interface which will drive 2 cassette tape recorders for the storage of programs or data. The cost to Mr. Long for this system was about $1,500. He plans to add a small printer and a disk storage device this year. Does having this system mean the Board should no longer be concerned about a Computer Studies Room? Not according to Mr. Long. He explains that this system permits only one student at a time to work with it, and therefore most of the student programs will still have to be taken, on cards, to Althouse College in London. Why does a teacher spend his own money for classroom equipment? Most simply because the Board wouldn't and he feels it is important, Mr. Long points out the very wide use of computers in the business world, and the number of jobs which are available. The number of computer related jobs has increased about 15 percent per year over the last 10 years. This growth is expected to continue. Computers are also an integral part of many post- secondary school programs, in both universities and community colleges. Mr. Long feels the purpose of the high school is to make life as easy as possible for the graduate, This means developing the students personality to be at- tractive to prospective em- Your Blood is Always Needed Grand Bend 4-H Pick new slate The Grand Bend 4H Club girls held their first meeting, Thur- sday evening at the town hall, on their new project, "Featuring Fruit".
