The "Children of Promise" are coming to Canada t This troupe of young Korean singers and folk dancers will present 19 concerts across Ontario during the month of September. The tour is sponsored by Compassion Of Canada. These Korean performers will appear in xeter, Monday, September 12, at Trivitt Memorial Anglican Church at 8 p.m. The concerts will include Korean folk songs and folk dancers, and North American gospel music, all arranged by Rick Powell, associated with the Bill Gaither Trio children's programs. Also featured is Miss Cha Soo Jung, an accomplished operatic soprano. The "Children of Promise" are Handicapped choose logo The next time you see a round, green on white sticker, look again. It might be Alpha Huron's logo. The logo was chosen from several drafted by Alpha members, It will appear on letterheads and envelopes used by the Huron group. Just another way to keep' us aware of the handicapped. Twenty-three Alpha members and friends enjoyed a barbecue at the home of Ralph and Pat Watson at Brussels. Cold, damp weather kept the group inside but all enjoyed the social time. Jim Hun.sberger from Alpha London brought news that the Housing Brief for the Han- dicapped would be plesented to Cabinet on September 29. Jim hopes that all who support the brief will alert the local M.P.P, Members agreed to rotate meetings, between Holmesville and Brussels on a trial basis. Alpha will meet next at Holmesville Public School, September 27 at 8 p,m. Mr. & Mrs. John McAllister have returned from a three week trip to the Atlantic provinces and the Eastern United States. Holy Communion was ad- ministered by Rev. G. A. Anderson of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Sunday. The flowers were in memory of the late Jean and Robert Middleton and placed there by the family. The service at Hensall United Church on Sunday was conducted by Rev. Don Beck, with Mrs. John Turkheim at the organ and Miss Karen McAllister at the piano. Two piano and organ duets were played -- "Allegretto" by Haydn and "Supplication" by Schubert. The title of the sermon was, "Is there a soltition?" There is a strong quest for religion in the world of today. Goodness and badness both abound in in- dividuals, with death the final sign of our insignificance. It is necessary to see into the heart of God as Peter did; then the future holds life, Church group activities are resuming. Unit one will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 8. Unit 2 will meet for a pot luck supper at 7 p.m. Monday, Sep- tember 12. Children of promise to make appearance By MRS. RENA CALDWELL Mt. & Mrs. James McGregor and - amily have returned from 4- holiday in Michigan. Mr. & Mrs. Ken McLellan have returned from a trip,to Detroit. Mr. & Mrs. Grant McGregor and family have returned from a holiday on Manitoulin Island, Mr. & Mrs. Alex McGregor spent the holiday week-end camping at Pointe Farm.' six young girls, all of whom are sponsored through Compassion. ' Compassion is a Christian child sponsorship agency whose work originated in Korea 25 3ears ago, and has now expanded to 24 countries. Each of the Children of Promise has a North American sponsor who provides, food, clothing, and education for their child, through Compassion. On this tour, the "Children of Promise" are travelling ex- tensively through the United States and Canada. They perform in the traditional elaborate Korean costume, Miss Cha, the featured soloist, is at 24 a veteran of operatic performances, She has per- formed with the National Opera Company in Korea, and has been featured in leading roles. The six younger "Children of Promise" all 11 or 12 years old, are orphans or children from poverty-stricken families whose education has been made possible through the work of Compassion in Korea. The six girls are Kim Sun Jin, 12; Lee Ki Sun, 12; Pak Joo Jyung, 11; Kim Hyun Joo, 12; Yoon Yong Soom, 12; and Kim Jung Sook, 11. Jung Sook, the youngest of the troupe, comes from a backgroung typical of a Com- passion child, She has been raised in a Korean orphanage, sponsored by a North American Compassion family, whom she will meet while on this tour. She has one brother and two sisters, also living in the orphanage. Jung Sook will enter the fifth grade in March. Her favourite subjects are Social Studies and Art, and her ambition is to teach primary school when she grows up. But for Jung Sook, the biggest thing in life, right now, is the tour, as she meets hundreds of people from Canada and the United States, performs in dozens of cities, and shares en ter - tainment,fun, and a lot of love. Mrs. Mary Roobol has returned home after being a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Mrs. Albert Alexander visited some of her nephews and nieces in Georgetown and Brampton last week. While in Brampton she attended the Bradley-Alexander wedding, The Hensel] Women's Institute reopen their season Wednesday, September 14, when they en- tertain the Huron County Historical Society. Anyone in- terested in local history is invited to attend. Visitors with Mr. & Mrs. John Skea on Sunday were Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Mason and Andrew of Huron Park while Mr. & Mrs. Honor departing bank member A pleasant evening was spent at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Eric Luther in honor of Larry Flette of the Bank of Montreal who has been transferred to Perth. Games were enjoyed by all and Carl McMahon presented Larry with a gift, A social hour followed and all enjoyed refreshments. The Staff of the Bank of Montreal and their families attended the gathering, Ron Sakkal of Ottawa has been transferred to the local Bank of Montreal as administration manager, Church ladies hear readings Unit 4, Hensall United Church, had a pot luck supper at their September meeting in the Fellowship Hall. Mrs. James McAllister chaired the meeting. An interesting speech was given by Mrs. George Armstrong, who told of personal developement as a result of growing up in the church. She read excerpts from a sermon by Rev. Leonard Griffith, warning against critizing the church before we have done all possible to improve it. Two readings were given by Mrs, J,C. Britton, "Better than gold" and a fable based on "The Little Red Hen", Mrs, Eric Luther conducted a hymn-sing and later sang a solo, "Someday He'll make it plain to me", ac- companied by Mrs. William Rogerson, who also played a lovely piano solo, Flowers will be placed in the sanctuary for services in Sep- tember at the general meeting on October3 when ElaineTownshend :Will be guest speaker,Members were also reminded of the regional meeting October 18 at Centralia. John Skea, Junior, and Colin and Karen visited over the weekend from Brampton. The Three Links Senior Citizens will resume their meetings on Tuesday, September 13, with a pot luck supper at 6:30 p.m. All seniors have a warm invitation to join. Jack Smith, Don Cooper, Bruce Walker, Art Broderick and Carl Payne attended the steam engine era display at Milton on Satur- day. Miss Dorothy Farquhar of Toronto is spending this week with her mother Mrs. Emma Farquhar. Mr, Burt Coleman of London spent the holiday with his mother Mrs. Gladys Coleman and brother Ivan. Mr. & Mrs. Ed Knox of Toronto were week-end visitors with the latter's mother Mrs. Emma Farquhar and brother-in-law and sister, Mr. & Mrs. Walter Spencer. Mr. & Mrs, George Parker, Randy and Rod returned to their home after spending the summer months at their trailer near Bay field. Miss Dale Gooding, Parkhill visited last week with her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Edgar Munn. Miss Mary Goodwin returned home from an extended vacation to the Western Coast. Mr. & Mrs. Howard Rennie and family, Sarnia spent the week- end at the home of the former's mother Mrs. Sam Rennie. Gordon Love who has been a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter returned to his home Friday. Mrs. George Dowson is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter, where she is receiving treatment. Dr. Fox of the University of Western Ontario conducted Church service in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Miss Brenda Pepper presided at the organ. The W,M.S. and Ladies Aid meeting will be held on Monday September 12 at 8 p.m. A joint meeting of the sessions of Carmel Church, Caven and Cromarty Churches will meet in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Wed Sept 14, at 8 p,m, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Flynn and Ws, Gerald Flynn, were in Thamesville, Saturday attending the funeral of the late Mrs. Marjorie Jean (Armstrong) Avery who passed away on August 31. She is survived by her son Don Avery, daughter-in-law Mrs, Don (Shirley Flynn) Avery and grandchildren Scott and Lisa Avery all of Dear Field Beach, Florida. Funeral service was conducted by Rev. Jan Rhiins of the Thamesville United Church Saturday at 2 p.m. Interment in Members of the Christian Reformed Church formed a choir for the Sunday evening song service led by Dick Roorda ac- companied at the piano by Mrs. Elsie Henderson. A group of girls sang two special numbers which were enjoyed by everyone and they provided their own guitar accompaniment. Marie Flynn, Lorne Lawson, Norman Speir and Cecil Skinner provided the' old tyme music for Monday's activities.
