Kerr says sewer job

construction of the long proposed
Grand Bend Sewage system
could be speeded up.
Reeve Bob Sharen and several
members of council met with
Kerr and Lambton MPP Lorne
Henderson on August 10 in an
attempt to hasten the project.
Kerr informed council by letter
this week, "We are hopeful funds
shall become available for your
project in 1978 and shall work
towards calling tenders in
October of that year if funds
materialize."
Kerr's letter continued, "I note
and appreciate your
municipality's concern in having
the proposed sewage works
constructed at the earliest
possible date, however, as I
pointed out at the meeting, this

are very little funds available for
undertaking additional new
construction at this time."
"This situation and the large
number of projects requested by
many municipalities 'make it
impossible to accommodate all
projects within the desired
schedule."
As I advised Reeve Sharen our
engineering consultants will be
completing the final detailed
design of the sewage works
proposed for Grand Bend either
late this year or early in 1978,"
In conclusion, the Minister
assured council every attempt
would be made to construct the
sewers as soon as funds become
available.
In a brief discussion on sewers,
Reeve Bob Sharen said he is
continually receiving complaints
of septic tank problems and is
telling these persons to contact
the Lambton Health Unit.
Sharen continued, "This is one
way we can get the point across
to government officials• that we
have a real problem here and
sewers are needed badly."
The Reeve said several
problems were alleviated over
the Labour Day weekend by
having septic tanks pumped out,
Councillor Harold Green
suggested some septic tanks be
pumped every two weeks during
peak periods.
