Area residents pay penalty
for drinking, driving offences

The youth of Zion Lutheran
church "Joy" held a recreational
meeting, Tuesday, August 30 at
Grand Bend. Miniature golf and
lunch at a snack booth were
enjoyed.
Bridal Shower
Diane Miller, London was
hostess at a miscellaneous
shower,WednesdayAugust 31, at
her parent's home, Mr. & Mrs.
Hubert Miller, for Darlene Webb,
London bride-elect of October.
About 25 friends attended.
Darlene thanked everyone for the
lovely gifts and lunch was served.
Public Meeting
A public meeting called by the
trustees of Dashwood to discuss
water in Dashwood had a
tremendous response. Never had
so many turned out for a public
meeting,
George Tieman, Chairman,
answered questions and listened
to tales of "woe". It was decided
to present a petition in Toronto
with names of those in favour,
Anyone who wishes to sign may
do so at the home of George
Tieman until September 28.

Bruce, Windsor, on a two week
visit to Nova Scotia. They visited
members of the Bruce family at
Truro, Nova Scotia, besides
visiting many places of interest.
They also visited with Mr. & Mrs,
Earl Vandahl and Earl (Jr),'
Montreal, The Hayters returned
home by air,
Jeremy, small son of John and
Mary Becker spent the week-end
with his grandparents, Mr. &
Mrs. Ed Hearn, Huron Park.
Mrs. Mabel ,Mellecke has
returned to Wisconsin after
spending the summer months
with her son and family, ,Rev. &
Mrs. M. Mellecke. David
Mellecke has returned to
Saskatchewan after spending the
summer with his parents,
brothers, sisters and grand-
mother.
Stacey Rader spent the
weekend with her grandparents,
Mr. & Mrs. Irvin Rader. Other
holiday visitors were Miss
Sharon Rader and Mr, & Mrs.
Paul Rader, London.
Mrs, Gerald Keyes, Debbie,
Lisa and Darren, Masset, B.C.,
have returned home after
spending a month visiting friends
and relatives in this area.

Huron College. Mark Chandler
has returned to Sir Wilfrid
Laurier University, Waterloo.
Tom Hayter has enrolled at
Guelph University. Jeff Hayter, is
at George Brown College,
Toronto, Janice Hayter has
returned to her studies at Wind-
oor University.
Susan and Chris Baynham
have returned to Oshawa after
spending several weeks with
their grandparents. Mr. & Mrs.
Ernest Koehler. Their mother
Mrs. Anne Nagel and a friend
called for them on the weekend.
Fines were handed out for a
variety of liquor and traffic
offences by Justice of the Peace
Bruce Ferris, who presided at
Exeter Court Tuesday.
Peggy Ann Welton, of Parkhill
and formerly of RR 2 Grand
Bend, was given three fines. She
was fined $54 for driving a motor
vehicle in which there was open
liquor andu further $58 for failing
to provide proof of insurance.
The other fine paid by the area
woman was also $58 for driving a
vehicle with improper licence
plates, The court learned that the
plates on her vehicle were ac-
tually taken off another,
Richard E. Welton, same
address, was fined $54 for driving
a motor vehicle in which there
was open liquor.
A Huron Park man, Richard
Ridley, was handed two fines.
One was in the amount of $78 for
creating unnecessary noise with
his vehicle on August 12 and the
other was for speeding at a rate
of 50 in a 30 zone. The amount of
the latter fine was $63.
Other fines levied were as
follows:
William Warburton, Huron
Park, $28 for following another
vehicle too closely.
David J. Brand, RR 5 Forest,
$54 for driving a motor vehicle in
which liquor was available.
Wayne Wellington Temple,
Goderich, $58 for failing to
provide evidence of insurance for
the vehicle he was driving on
June 24,
Alister John Nesbitt, London,
$28 for failing to wear a seat belt.
John Paul McDonnell, London,
$13 for a speed of 60 in a 50 zone.
Anthony Gaud, RR 1 Dash-
Wood, $78 for a speed of 75 in a 50
zone,
Michael Morneau, Huron Park,
$53 for failing to obtain a
Township of Stephen dog licence.
David Frederick Haight, RR 2
Exeter, $58 for failing to provide
evidence of insurance for the
vehicle he was driving on July 28
and $28 for having no valid
driver's licence,
Gerald Cole, RR 2 Forest, $13

buys paper
A former Exeter man, Bob
Beavers, has become a major
shareholder in the Peterborough
Review. He is the son of Mr. &
Mrs. Reg Beavers, Exeter.
A graduate of the University of
Western Ontario, Beavers will be
the editor of the weekly
publication, which is the oldest
newspaper in Peterborough.
He has been in the Peter-
borough area since 1970, and is
currently secretary of the Kin-
smen Club and a member of the
Chamber of Commerce special
events and public relations
committee.
