Royals behind in playoffs
The Lucan Irish edged the
Exeter Royals 3.2 Tuesday night
in Lucan to take a one game lead
in the Southwestern fastball
Association playoffs,
The second game of the best-0.f-
five series will be played tonight,
Thursday with the second game
in Lucan Sunday and the fourth if
necessary in Exeter Tuesday
night. All games start at 9 p.m.
The Irish opened the scoring in
the second inning as Dennis
Carty 'singled and scored on
Brian Noyes single.
In the third inning Wayne
Smith reached on an error and
scored on Russ Smiths single to
make the score 2-0. The Royals
closed the gap in the fifth as Pete
Glover drew a walk, stole second
and scored on Terry Bourne's
triple. The Irish added one run in
the bottom of the sixth as Russ
Smith reached on an error and
scored as Kevin Lightfoot
singled.
The Royals ended the scoring
in the top of the seventh as. Barry
Baynham singled and scored on
Terry Bourns grounder. Dennis
Carty was on the mound for the
Irish and threw a strong game
allowing only three hits while
striking out 12.
Ron Mason hurled for the
Royals allowing only four hits
while striking out three batters.
ALL STARS .6 ROYALS 3
Wednesday night the South-
western Fastball league all stars
defeated the Exeter Royals 6-3.
The all stars opened the scoring
as Ed Robb from Poplar Hill was
hit by a pitch and came around to
score. The Royals scored two
runs in the bottom of the first as
Steve Hodgins doubled, Jack
Glover reached on an error and
both came in to score as Barry
Baynham singled,
The all stars scored two runs in
the top of the sixth as Gerald
Nordemann and Ken Horst both
walked and scored on Ernie
Schlegal's single.
The all stars busted the game
open in the eighth as Nordemann
walked and singles by Ken Horst,
Ernie Schlegel, Les Drury,
Wayne McLellan and Terry Fink-
beiner scored three runs.
The final run came in the
bottom of the ninth as Jack
Glover hit a long home run. Ernie
Schlegel and Dennis Carty hurled
for the all stars while Ron
Mason, Cliff Gingerich and Scott
Burton for Exeter.
LUCAN 5 ROYALS 1
Thursday night the Lucan Irish
Nine wrapped up first place in the
league with a convincing 5-1 win
over the Royals.
Lucan scored three runs in the
first inning as Vic Capitano was
hit by a pitch. Rusty Smith then
bunted and reached and Gerry
Finkbeiner single scored two
runs and he scored on an error.
Lucan added another run in the
second as Dennis Burt and Vic
Capitano both singled. The
Royals scored their only run in
the third as Doug Johnson
doubled and scored on Brian
Hodgins sacrifice fly. The Irish
added their final run as Dennis
Carty singled and scored on
Kevin Lightfoots triple. Brian
Lightfoot was on the mound for
the Irish and allowed only, two
hits in picking up the win. Brian
Hodgins took the loss allowing
seven hits.
Rain curtails

Rain curtailed action at the
Exeter lawn bowling green
Tuesday night with only one
game being played.
Tied for first place with
identical scores of a seven plus
and aggregate of 16 were Ruth
Skinner, Gertrude Hamilton and
Russ Snell.
Next in a two-way deadlock
were Nelson Squire and Anna
Ballantyne. Following in order
were Stan Mitchell, Wes Watson,
Stella Taylor and Clarence Down,
Saturday night two games were
played and Gertrude Hamilton
and Clarence Down shared first
spot with two wins, a plus of nine
and aggregate of 24,

The Dashwood Tigers ousted
the Crediton Mets from further
intermediate baseball play this
week by taking two games, but
the scores were close in both
contests.
Dashwood took a Friday
contest on their home field by a
score of 5-3 and gained a 12-9
decision in Crediton Sunday
afternoon.
The Tigers took the best-of-five
series in straight games and now

second, stole second and scored
on a fielder's choice for the first
Crediton run in the second.
In the Crediton third, a double
from the bat of Steve Bedour
and singles by Keith Davey and
Jeff O'Brien produced two
Crediton scores.
Five singles were good for four
runs for the Mets in the bottom of
the sixth. They were delivered by
Jeff O'Brien, Larry Clarke,
Bruce Hodge, Percy Bedard and
designated hitter Pete Wuerth.
Three Crediton hits in the
seventh could get only one run
across the plate. Larry Clarke
and Bruce Hodge hit doubles and
Steve Bedour added a single.
Singles by Pete Wuerth and
Dan Heywood produced the final
Crediton marker in the eighth.
Perry Stover was the starting
pitcher for Dashwood. He was
relieved by Bob Hoffman during
the Credi ton rally in the seventh.
