Bisback, Hensall and their

nurses and parents with children
at a font. day La Leche Con-
ference which brought together
medical experts from all over the
world, nine countries in all from
Ireland to New Zealand.
"Developing nations could save
one billion dollars a year if all
their mothers breastfed - a fact
which should make La Leche
League as powerful as OPEC",
Dr. Marshall H. Klaus M.D.
author of Maternal-Infant
Bonding told the 6th Acnter-
national Conference of La Leche
League International in Toronto
on Wednesday.
Stressing the beneficial
properties inherent in mothers'
milk, the noted physician and
author, who is professor of
Pediatrics at the University
Hospitals of Cleveland, cited
specific examples in various
parts of the globe where babies
owe their lives to human milk.
"In 1971 and '72 almost 50 percent
of premature babies who
developed diarrhea in sections of
Argentina were dying from the
affliction" Dr. Klaus stated. "In
1973 a system was implemented
whereby milk from mothers of
full-term babies was supplied to
the premies at a teaspoon each
lb. of infant weight, and the
diarrhea completely stopped!"
La Leche League International
is the only international
organization in the world whose
major purpose is to help women
successfully breastfeed their
babies. The 21 year old
organization started by seven
mothers in Franklin Park,
Illinois, now has 11,700 leaders
directing 3,500 branches in 42
countries.
Huron County has one meeting
monthly to acquaint those in-
terested in breastfeeding.
Further information may be
obtained from Janis Bisback, 262-
