They won two relay races while Steve Horn and Dove Bell in the back row also won individual honors in two age divisions. Mrs, Mabel Desjardine has been holidaying with her daughter, Mrs. Ruby Little and Auxiliary meets at Huronview The Huronview Auxiliary meeting in the craft room on Monday, July 18 decided to purchase an air mattress. This would benefit the bed-ridden patients by relieving pressure on the joints. Mr.,, Archibald ex- plained benefits of the mattress. The meeting, chaired by the president, Mrs. ' C. Coiclough opened with members repeating the Lord's Prayer. Mrs. McNichol, thesecretary, read the minutes and Mrs. Leola Lockhart, treasurer, gave the financial report. Roll-call was answered by naming a favourite hobby. Many favoured reading, during the current hot weather. Members may buy remnants, if they appear to be bargains, and give the bill to the treasurer. This material will be made into items for the fall bazaar. The next meeting will be on August 15 at 1.30 p.m. It would be nice to see more ladies present. Patti Russell of La Salle spent last week holidaying with her cousin Kathy Russell. A good crowd of local people attended the annual barbeque and picnic held Wednesday evening at Shipka Community Centre. Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Morenz were Mrs. Ruby Reid of Davison, Michigan, Mr. & Mrs. C. L. Monroe, Burton, Michigan, and Mr. & Mrs. Creighton Steinburg, Pt. Huron, Michigan, to call at the Bonthron Funeral Home and attend the funeral of Mrs, Morenz' sister, Miss Sarah Coleman, Port Hope. Mr. & Mrs. Sid Durie and Glenn spent the weekend at Manitoulin Island with Mr. & Mrs. Ron MacDougall at their cottage on Manitou Lake. Anita Van Massenhoven at- tended the music Festival, (Saturday and Sunday) at Sar- nia, winning second in an ac- cordion solo, first in the Exeter orkette, first in the Exeter ac- cordion band B and second in an accordion duet with Dinette Steffans. Debbie Zielman also attended the Sarnia Music festival winning first in an accordion duet with Irene Dietrich and second in an accordion solo in age 9D class. The local swimmers picked up 466 points in the event, with St. Marys placing second with 376. Clinton's crew posted a total of 243 points. Exeter swimmers won or tied for eight of the 10 individual championships and showed a strong team effort in the relay events by taking first place ribbons in seven out of the 12 races. Brett Batten was Exeter's top individual point getter as he won all four of his races in the eight and under division, for a total of 28 points, He held a wide margin over Ed Thompson of St. Marys who placed second in the four events. The young Exeter swimmer teamed up with Jeff Pfaff, Jack Vermaeten and Ken Boersma toplace second in the 10 and under relay event, Elizabeth Cottreli scored three firsts and 'a second to easily win the eight and under girls' section. She placed second to Karen Wells of Exeter in the backstroke. Karen also had a fourth and fifth place finish in the other two events, while Jodi McBride picked up a pair of seconds, Jack Vermaeten placed first in the 10 and under breaststroke and also scored a second and fourth in two other races. Ken Boersma had two thirds and Jeff Pfaff had one, Brenda Waldeck of the Exeter team won the championship for the girls 10 and under with a total of 21 points on three first place finishes, Darla Crawford placed second in two races, while Tina Brand had one second, Tina,- Brenda, Darla and Darlene McBride placed first in the relay event. The Exeter swimmers dominated the boys 11 and 12 division. Scott Pincombe took individual honors with 19 points on two firsts and one second. Scott Batten was the runnerup with one first and two seconds, while John Mol scored one first, Mark Vandergunst had a third place finish. The four teamed up to win the relay event, Catherine Patterson was the only Exeter girl to swim to a first in the girls 11 and 12 division. She also had one third, Brenda Bell had a second, while Vicki Pfaff and Angie Wraight each scored one third, Dave Bell picked up 12 points in 00 the age 13 and 14 division to share the top honors with Don Van Galen of St. Marys. Each had one first and a second. In the girls' class, Danette McLeod of Exeter took top honors with 21 points on three firsts. Ka thy Wallace and Debbie Waldeck also scored firsts, while Kathy Giffin had a second. Steve Horn shared individual honors in the boys over 15 class with 12 points, while Helen Muller of the Ii:Aeter crew won the same age groupin the girls' division with 15 points. The Exeter team will swim in a four-team event in Goderich this Saturday, HARD WORK — Brett Batten shows the strain of competing in this backstroke event at Satur- day's swim meet which the Exeter team won. Brett scored four firsts in the eight and under division to top the individual scoring. WINNER — Jack Vermaeten was the only Exeter lad to make it to a first place in the 10 and under boys' division. He scored his first in the breaststroke and was a member of the second place relay team.
