LIMVILLE
The Elimville Women's
Institute held their July meeting
last Wednesday evening. The
president Mrs. Murray Coward
opened the meeting with the ode
and collect.
A donation was given to the
South Huron Recreation Centre
in Exeter, It was announced the
draw for the quilt would be made
October 22 with the proceeds
going to the Kirkton-Woodhatn
swimming pool,
Mrs. Howard Pym offered to
look after the craft item for the
fall convention. It was reported
Mrs. Dan Coward and her
committee had everything
planned for the birthday party at
Huronview in August.
The Institute will attend the
playhouse at Grand Bend August
10. The bus trip to Stoney Creek
was changed to October 4.
Mrs, Elson Lynn and Mrs.
Emerson Penhale reported on the
80th anniversary of the Women's
Institute in Kitchener that day.
The meeting was turned over to
the Tweedsmuir History com-
mittee with Mrs. Theron Creery
in charge. A sing song opened this
part of the meeting,
Mrs, Marjorie Herdman
reported on the motto "History, a
mirror of the past, a guide and
inspiration for the present and
future". Mrs. Horace De'bridge
read a poem "Canada United".
Miss Ruth Skinner read a poem
"Country Store" and gave a short
history of the Elimville store,
Mrs. Freeman Horne played
several musical numbers on the
piano.
The roll call "A written
response to a present or past
owner of a business in Usborne
Township - to be added to our
Tweedsmuir History book was
answered prior to the business.
The members enjoyed looking
at the several history books and
scrap books on display. A social
hour and lunch followed.
Personals
The Elimville store which has
been closed for several years
opened its door for business last
week.
Mrs. Murray Coward has
returned home from the hospital
recently.
Mrs. Jackson Woods of London
called on friends in the village on
Tuesday.
Miss Barb and Master Brad
Skinner returned home Saturday
after spending a week with Mr, &
Mrs, Jim Wilkinson and family of
Wheatly.
Mr. & Mrs. Carl Gower at-
tended the wedding of Mr. S; Mrs.
Robert Riley of Woodstock on
Friday.
Several from the community
attended the wedding reception
of Mr. & Mrs, Gary Skinner on
CLANDEBOYE
Mr. & Mrs. Lionel Shipley,
Ottawa took in the Harrison
reunion and are visiting this week
with Lyle and Jean Lee and
Wilmer and Mary Scott.
Kevin Carter is a patient in St.
Joseph's Hospital where he
underwent surgery on Tuesday.
Several from the area took in
the Centennial Parade and
celebrations at Denfield on the
weekend. The Clandeboye
Hillbillies started for the parade
on Saturday but developed car
problems so had to withdraw.
Saturday evening at the Kirkton
Woodham Community Centre.
Mrs. Don Willcox, Timothy and
Tracy of Kitchener spent a few
days with Mr. & Mrs. Bill Routly
who returned to Kitchener with
her. On Saturday Bill attended
the Blue Jays ball game in
Toronto with Don and boys. On
Lucan Fair is coming soon,
Clarence, so better get Lizzie
some Geritol.
Nancy and Sam Taylor and
Mary arrived on Saturday from
Swift Current, Saskatchewan for
a surprise visit with the Wilmer
Scott family.
Mrs. John Brownlee, Pamela
and Susan, Gra venhurst returned
home on Sunday after spending
the past week with Mrs. 'Viola
Carter.
Over 100 attended the Harrison
Family Reunion held at the Lions
Park, Lucan, Sunday. Relatives
came from Swift Current,
.Saskatchewan; Phoenix,
Arizona; Ottawa, Oshawa,
Ridgeway, London, Hensall,
Centralia, Arva, Ailsa Craig,
Lucan and Clandeboye.
A shower in honour of Miss
Karen Darling was held Monday
evening at the Clandeboye United
Church, A Bingo contest was
conducted by Irene Lynn and
Marion Thompson and a reading
was given by Lucille Blake.
Hazel Williams made a
presentation of a coffee maker,
slow cooker, bread box and a
cushion to Karen from the
community. She received several
other gifts as well. Karen
thanked everyone for the lovely
gifts and lunch was served and a
social time enjoyed by all.
HODGINS REUNION
The Hodgins at "Shadyside
Farm" were hosts for a
"Hodgins" family reunion
Sunday. Guests included Mr. &
Mrs. Bruce Hodgins, Peter-
borough,- Mr. & Mrs. Ralph
Ainslie, Mr. & Mrs. David Ain-
slie, Mr. & Mrs. Michael Smith
and Meg, St. Marys, Mr. & Mrs.
Murray Hodgins, Mr. & Mrs.
Murray Hodgson and Heather,
Sunday all visited with Mr. &
Mrs. Jas. Sinclair in London and
also attended the Routly reunion
at the home of Mr. & Mrs. John
Hogg also of London.
Mrs. Stanley Peters returned
home after spending several
weeks at the Shamrock Marina
and Trailer Park.

AT CONVENTION
Mrs. Art Hodgins, President of
the Clandeboye Women's
Institute attended the 80th
Anniversary celebrations of the
Founding of Women's Institute,
Wednesday, July 13, held at
Bingeman Park, Kitchener.
A buffet dinner was enjoyed by
over 1300 members. Mrs. Herb
Maluske of Chesley, President of
The Federated Women's
Institutes of.'Ontario was
Mistress of Ceremonies.
The special cake, was cut by
Mrs. Gordon Conant, Oshawa,
who as a very small child at-
tended the first meeting with her
mother at Stoney Creek, when the
W,I, was formed.
Guest speaker was Mrs.
Lyndsay Hackett-Pain, of
England, Honourary Treasurer
of the A.C.W.W.
She gave a most interesting
talk about her various activities
over the years in Institute work
and especially mentioned the
good, accomplished by the
"Pennies for Friendship" that in
1977 amounted 120,000 and that 80
percent came from Ontario.
Guest soloist was -Mrs.
Marianne Trifunovich who sang
many beautiful numbers such as
I Believe, Climb every Mountain,
Eidleweis, Amazing Grace and
several others.
The theme of the Anniversary
Party was "W.I. Shows How an
Idea Grows."
QUILTING FOR POOL — The Elimville Quilters are just completing a quilt which will be the big prize in an
upcoming draw. All proceeds will go to the Kirkton-Woodham swimming pool fund.The quilters are from the
left, Thelma Scharder, Olga Hern, Verla Allen, Marie Brock, Judy Johns, Shirley Prance, Marion Skinner and
Sherri Seldon. Tickets are available from Judy Johns, Elimville; Jean Lynn, Winchelsea and Wanda Robin-
son, Kirkton and from area school children. Prizes for the sellers are donated by Lloyd Hern, Exeter and the
