Mrs. Larry Lovie and Mrs,
Glen Miller, members of the Carradine to
appear at GB
Babes in Arms, the Rogers and
Hart 1937 musical, opens for a
two-week run at the Huron
Country Playhouse Tuesday,
July 26. The show, which still
includes all the original hit tunes,
has been brought a little more up-
to-date and now takes in the early
1950's.
In the cast are Araby Lockhart,
Bob Windsor, Alden Jones, Rick
Zimmerman, Mark Russell and
Shari Bondy.
John Carradine, the film star,
will appear in the comedy,
George Washington Slept Here,
by Moss Hart and George
Kaufmann. It opens Tuesday,
August 9, for a one-week
engagement, Mr, Carradine
plays Stanley Menninger, a rich
old uncle.

Cottage is levelled
by Friday's blaze

and sides. The fire caused an
estimated total damage of $30,000
to the cottage but a nearby tool
shed and car were undamaged.
Van Brueene said a complete
investigation would depend upon
whether the company which
insured the cottage thought it was
necessary, No one was injured in
the blaze,

for increases in wages for

department.

ship service on 2nd Timothy.
Mrs, Millie Desjardine sang a
solo titled "Follow me."
At the evening service Rev.
Desjardine showed slides of
Tanzania, which are specially
prepared by the mission board.
His wife Pat gave the com-
mentary,
The Church of God Sunday
school children presented a
special offering to the three
Desjardine children, who along
with their parents leave Canada
for Tanzania for four years work
in the mission field on August 4.
Rev. H. Moore conducted the
third outdoor service, Sunday
morning at the United church.
Special music was supplied by
soloist Mrs. Gail Overholt when
she sang two solos "Pass it on,"
and "Master Designer", by Kurt
Kaiser from the musical "Tell it
like it is,"
United Church ladies are
reminded of the bake and
produce sale coming up August 3.
Church meeting
Nineteen ladies of Church of
God met Thursday evening at the
church for their July meeting.
Mrs. Barbara McGregor
conducted the worship service on
the theme of "Goodness."
Roll call was answered by a
scripture verse with goodness in
it.
Special speaker was Mrs. Stan•
Desjardine, who is shortly
leaving for Tanzania with her
husband and family, for mission
work, of their preparations and
plans.
Mrs. Katie Vincent, president,
presided for the business.
Lunch hostesses were Mrs.
Harold Vincent and Mrs, Harold
Chamberline. A special offering
at this meeting was presented to
Mrs. Stan Desjardine.
Grand Bend man dies
Funeral service was held last
week for Harold Noonan of
Lakeroad Drive, Grand Bend. He
is survived by his wife the former
Edna Gill, and one son Ronald of
Oakville and five grandchildren,
one sister Mrs, Madeline Graham
of Windsor and a brother Leo, of
London. In his 72nd year, he was
a former railway employee.
The body rested at T. Harry
Hoffman Funeral Home at Dash-
wood, then to St. Martin's
Catholic Church, London, for the
service with interment at St.
Peter's cemetery, London,

practice sessions and fire calls.

this area with relatives and

returned from a holiday trip to
the West Coast.

London, visited Sunday with their
grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Art
Finkbeiner.
Mrs. Mary Ferguson,
Saskatoon and Mrs. Ada Read,
Calgary are spending a few
months here in Green Acres at
their mother's Mrs. Myrtle
McGregor's home.
Huron Vista guests this week
have been Mr. & Mrs. George
Tittell, Grosse Pointe, Michigan,
Mr. & Mrs. Gordon Craw,
Saugerties, N.Y., and Mr. & Mrs.
Doug Burns, Peterborough.
Lawrence Johnson has
returned from a three week's bus
driving Fettes tour trip to the
West Coast.
Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Latta,
Dale and Todd, Mr. & Mrs. Ron
Latta, Janet and Karen, all of
Sarnia, were Sunday visitors with
the children's grandparents, Mr.
& Mrs. George Latta.

family, Cole Lake, near Kingston
spent a few days with his parents
here, Mr. & Mrs, Roy Flear.

with the proposed wage rates,
Councillor Harold Green said "I
insist that firemen stay for the
practice sessions. I don't want
them just signing in and then
leave."
Reeve Bob Sharen said this
matter would be up to the
discretion of the fire chief.
Training sessions for the resort
firemen will be held monthly
beginning in September at the
Grand Bend Legion hall.
Deputy-reeve Bob Simpson is
the GB representative on the fire
board which also includes
Stephen and Bosanquet town-
ships.
A request from Howard
Solomon, operator of the Dog
House to allow his staff to sell hot
dogs, ice cream, soft drinks,
etc ., on the beach was refused.
In denying the request, Reeve
Bob Sharen said "we have been
saying no, no, no in the past and I
don't think we are ready for a
change."
Deputy-reeve Bob Simpson
added, "we don't want to com-
mercialize our beach."
Solomon will be allowed to
circulate brochures in the beach
area on a "one shot basis."
Canoe regatta
this Sunday
The Ausable-Bayfield Con-
servation Authority is holding its
ninth annual Parkhill canoe
regatta and picnic on Sunday,
July 24 at Parkhill Conservation
Area, intersection of Highways 7
and 81 near Parkhill,
This event, which is scheduled
to start at 11 a.m. offers an ex-
cellent chance for family and
friends to get together either to
participate or be entertained by
the antics of others.
Registration is on the beach
from 10:30 -11 a.m. and the fee is
50 cents per person per race.
There is a Conservation Area
admittance charge of $1.00 or a
valid season's pass,
Fun 'events include gunnel
bobbing, crab race, water and
land tug-of-war, water basket-
ball, a horseshoe tournament
plus canoe races for both the
amateur and experienced
canoeist.
Bring a picnic lunch or
something to barbecue, as a large
barbecue pit will be set up.
Parkhill Conservation Area of-
fers tent and trailer camping,
scenic nature trails, playing
fields, an inviting beach area
with canoe and paddle boat rental
and a weekend activity program.

Parkhill canoe regatta and picnic
and join in the fun of the day.

Grand Bend fire officials have
been unable to determine the
cause of a fire that destroyed a
cottage in the Highland No, a
subdivision Friday afternoon,
according to Deputy Fire Chief
Prosper Van Bruaene,
The fire was discovered by the
owner, A.G. Smith of London,
when he returned, from a swim
with his family about 4:25 p.m.
Smith called the fire depart-
