Miss Ethel Copeland is vacationing at her home in the village, Bob Wilcox is a patient in Victoria Hospital, London after having undergone back surgery, Mr. & Mrs. Jim Bearss and Mrs. Howard Bearss attended the Campbell-Robertson wedding Saturday at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church - in Scar- borough. Mr. & Mrs. Ewart Crago's grandchildren, Andrea and Melisa Dunnell spent the past weeks with them while their parents were holidaying in Jamaica. . Mr. & Mrs. George Webber of Warren, Michigan spent a few days with Mrs, Harry Webber. Mr, Dick Jongkind visited Saturday with his mother who is seriously ill, in Meaford. Mr. & Mrs. Jack Smith were guests at the Smith-Ewing wedding in London, Saturday. Dr. & Mrs. Wm. Schaefer and Susan, Kirkton were Sunday supper guests with Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Brintnell, Terri and Scott. Hensall leads rec league Hensall on the strength of a four point victory Monday night has taken over first place in the Exeter and district softball league with a total of 19 points, Gord's Variety and the Crescent Rolls are tied for second place with 18 points apiece and the Rookies are next with 15 points. They added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth as Wes Watson singled and Brian Eedy hit a homer. Beechwood pulled to with in one run in the sixth as Art Maloney walked, Hugh Watson doubled and Dune McKeen tripled. The Royals scored their final run , in the top of the seventh as Brian Hodgins singled and scored as Barry Baynham singled. Ron Mason started for the Royals and picked up the win, He was relieved in the sixth by Brian Hodgins who finished up Wes Watson went the distance for Beachwood. Tuesday night the Royals edged Sylvan 5-3 scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Sylvan opened the scoring in the top of the first inning as Scott Furtney singled and came in to score as Wayne McLennan singled. The Royals evened the count in the bottom of the first inning as Bill Farquhar hit a home run. Sylvan went ahead 3-1 in the third inning as Blair Furtney and Wayne McLennan both singled, The Royals narrowed the count to 3-2 in the fifth as Paul McKight hit a home run. Then with the score 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth the Royals struck for three runs. A new class is being offered for fun, fun, fun. The time is 9:00-9:30 a.m. Monday to Friday and the class is syn- chronized swimming. Synchronized swimming as a sport and as a recreational ac- tivity is increasing in popularity all across Canada today. It offers the grace and beauty of dance with the fun and challenge of a team effort. Persons will be able to work for star awards in syncho as well as compete in a meet. The cost is $8.00 and it will run from July 25 to August 5. Hope to see you here! A swim meet is being held here July 23 beginning at 9:00 a.m. The team needs your support. Hope to hear your cheering voice. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the wading pool, instruction is being held for the disabled. Last Saturday First session Red Cross exams were held resulting in a lot of swimmers progressing to the next level. Well that's all for this week. Hockey wins in Legion golf Ken Hockey fired a 38 to take top honours in the annual Exeter Legion golf tournament held at the Ironwood course Sunday. Jack Muir and Wayne Par- sons were tied for the runnerup position with identical scores of 39. Lloyd Lemmon was the low net winner followed by Bill Smith and Rick Blatchford and Eric Heywood was named the most honest golfer, The highlight of the tourney was a successful 69 foot putt by Lee Webber on the third hole. After the 24 competitors completed the courses, Legion sports officer Norm Ferguson presented the prizes. The next Legion golf tour- nament will be a mixed event on August 28 and it will be sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary of the R. E. Pooley Exeter branch 167. This week it has been Drama Week for the members of S.P.A.R.K. at Huron Park. The children have been busy making props and practicing skits and singing songs all week. Monday the Senior group tried their hands at tie dying. Some of the shirts turned out very well The Intermediate and Junior groups both made puppets and did puppet plays, In the afternoon a slave auction was held, The members of the senior group were auctioned off to groups of younger children to be slaves for the afternoon. Tuesday brought more practice for the senior group for their silent movie skit. The junior group made musical instruments and then made a rhythm band, The intermediates and seniors went swimming Tuesday af- ternoon. Wednesday was a regular day with the normal daily activities taking place such as crafts and games and sing songs. The junior group took their regular Wed- nesday afternoon dip in the pool. Plans for the 1977-78 season for the Ontario Hockey Association Western Division Junior "D" league were formulated at a meeting in Lucan, Monday night. The league will be split into two divisions with Exeter, Lucan, Mitchell, Seaforth and Tavistock competing in the northern half Traquair's enjoy picnic The annual Traquair picnic was held Sunday July 17 at the home of Murray Traquair, Hensall. Murray lives on the Traquair homestead which was settled by John Traquair in 1806. The attendance was about 85 with visitors from Scotland, Toronto. Ottawa, Calgary, Woodstock, Sarnia, Mississauga, London, St. Thomas and Brucefield and surrounding area. The visitors from Scotland were Mr. & Mrs. JamesTraquair of Edinburgh, During their visit to Canada they spent some time in our western provinces. The Traquair's in Calgary had them attend the Stampede and had a tour of the city. While in our area they are being showed warm hospitality by all the relatives. Mr. & Mrs. Traquair leave for the home country the end of the week. The next annual Traquair picnic will be held the third Sunday of July, 1978 at Seaforth Lions Park. Kirkton girls are defeated The Kirkton midget girls dropped a 13-6 softball decision Tuesday to Goderich in their only outing of the week. The Kirkton girls were held to only four hits. Lori Iredale was tops with a triple while Jayne Dougall, Bonnie Westlake and Kim Heather contributed singles. Patti Down, Sheila Penhale and Kelly Kernick shared pitching duties in the losing cause. New Hamburg will be in Kirkton Friday night and then the local area girls hit the road for games in St. Marys, Monday and Mitchell, Tuesday. with Belmont, Bothwell, Mt. Brydges, Port Stanley and Thamesford in the south. Each team will play the other four teams in their own division six times and the five teams in the other section on a home and home basis to make up a 34 game schedule. Overtime will not be used during the league schedule and each team will pick up one point in case of a tie. The two referee system will be continued during the season with a referee and two linesmen em- ployed during the playoffs which will pit the first and third and second and fourth place teams in each division. Bill Sampson of London will continue to be convener for the league. The next meeting is set for September 12 when the teams will consider a preliminary draft of the schedule drawn up by Ron Bogart, coach of the Exeter. It starts at 7:30 p,m. this evening in the J.A.D, McCurdy School gym. The program will consist of a silent movie skit by the Senior group, nursery rhymes by the Intermediates and a choir by the Juniors, We will have a display of crafts and art work that the children have done since the beginning of the program. It promises to be a good evening of entertainment . Friday will be a regular day of playground with each group working on their own special projects. Next week is called Around the World Week, During the course of the week the children will be visiting Hawaii, Japan, Mexico, Holland and Africa. The feature of the week will be a trip to the African Lion Safari at Rockton. ThurseIry night the Royals downed Iteechwood by a score of 7-5 and Tuesday night they prevailed over Sylvan by a count of 5-3. The Iloyals will be in Sylvan tonight and their next home contest Will be Tuesday night at Exeter Community Park when West orners will supply the opposi on. Last lhursday night the Exeter Royalstravelled to Nairn and beat Btechwood 7-5. The Royals struck for four runs in the top of the lint inning as Bill Farquhar walker, Jack Glover singled, Doug Pearson singled in one run, Barry Baynham doubled in two runs aid Steve Hodgins singled in one rm.
