Where you apply for a Social Insurance
Number and what you need when you apply.
Where? Your local UIC office. What will you need?
Proof of your identity.
If you were born in Canada, you'll need a
primary document like a birth certificate or
a baptismal certificate from Quebec. Naturalized
Canadians need their citizenship certificates.
If you're a landqd immigrant you'll need your im-
migration papers. Originals or certified copies
are needed.
You'll also need secondary identification. It
can be something official with your name on
it, like a driver's licence or a school report card.
Here photocopies are fine.
You don't want these important documents
lost or misplaced.Thats why we ask you to
go, in person, to your local UIC office. They'll ap-
prove your documents on the spot, help you
with your application and send it to Ottawa. You
can take your documents home right away.
You'll get your Social Insurance Number card in
the mail.
If you can't get to a UIC office you can go to
a Canada Manpower Centre or you can mail
your application direct to Ottawa. But you'll have
to send original documents or certified
copies. And if there are problems with your ap-
plication or documents it's going to take
longer to iron them out than it would face to face
in a local office.
Establishing your identity is the best way to
make sure your Social Insurance Number
stays with the right person. And that's pretty
important.

Playhouse Shows
Wednesday afternoon three
carloads of the Lucan Women's.
Institute members attended the
Huron Country Playhouse
production of "Plaza Suite" and
the majority found it most
lacking in good taste, par-
ticularly the first two "skits".
The third one was excellent with
nothing to offend, and so very
funny.
Sure - the others were funny but
instead of just a good healthy
"damn" it was always prefaced
by "G..." which our members
found most distasteful, Not only
that but the name of Jesus Christ
was also taken vain several
times,
If the Huron Country
Playhouse wants to please those
who find this type of language
distasteful they better stop using
it. As far as the acting was
concerned it could not have been
better and the set was excellent.
Some of us are looking forward to
"George Washington Slept Here"
which the Sunshine & Busy
Buddies Groups of the Senior
Citizens Club will attend on
August 10, leaving the hall at 1
p.m• but we hope the language
will be more acceptable.
The Institute enjoyed very
much the smorgasbord supper at
the Village Inn, following the
heatre, as will the members of
the Sr, Citizens Club, when they
attend in August.
President Lillian Ashton
thanked the convener, Iva M.
Hodgins, for making the
necessary arrangements for tae
outing, and called for a
discussion re the "Penny Sale" at
the Lions Club Fair.
It was decided by a unanimous
vote to discontinue the Perny
Sale and each member contribtte
$5 to the funds in lieu of the gilts
they would bring and the time
spent in the booth, Thcse
members ' not present will be
notified and hopefully, will be in

total acreage of 553.7 acres is

14.2 acres; 13,4 acres are used for

In response to a survey carried
out during the plan formation, 39
of 48 questionnaires. were
returned showing that the ter-
tiary sector is expanding.
In 1971 the Census indicated
that there were 17 retail
operations and 20 service
operations in Lucan and by 1977
the number of operations had
increased to 21 retail and 28
service,
The major portion of the
respondents indicated that they
have established their own new
operations, or bought existing
operations since 1961.
Of these 30 percent have un-
dertaken some type of expansion
since 1971 and 18 percent plan a
major expansion in Lucan, if
possible, in the foreseeable
future.
These plans appear to be based
on the size of the market area as
51 percent indicated that market
size or location was their reason
for locating in Lucan. The market
size of most operations (68
percent) was generally indicated
to be Lucan, Biddulph and parts
of the other surrounding town-
ships such as West Nissouri and
London Township.
A number of people also in-
dicated that they benefited from
the through traffic along High-
way 4. Finally, another indicator
of the importance of the tertiary
sector to Lucan is the number of
people employed. The respon-
dents to the survey indicated that
they employed 124 fulltime
employees.
The market analysis for Lucan
also seems to indicate that the
tertiary sector will be expanding.
This analysis relied upon the
results of the London Centred
Retail Study which covered a
broad area around London in-
cluding Lucan, and a basic trade
area analysis,
The London Centred Retail
Study indicates that Lucan is
located in an area which had one
of the highest incomes per capita
in the London Region in 1976.
Total retail expenditures were
also very high, as were projected
levels of expenditures to the year
1986.
The high per capita income and
expenditures in the Lucan area
indicated large potential market.
However, a shopping survey
carried out for the Retail Study
shows that a large proportion of
all expenditures in the Lucan
area, compared with other parts
of the Region, take place in
London rather than 'the Lucan
area itself. .
The trade area analysis for
Lucan also indicated a large
potential market in Lucan and
the surrounding area. This
analysis indicates total potential
expenditures in 1976 of $7 million
as compared with actual retail
sales of $2.3 million for Lucan in
1971 which, when adjusted up-
ward to account for inflation and
sales growth, would only equal $3
million,
These figures, of course,
cannot be regarded as being
totally accurate. However, it
indicates that there is potential
for growth of the retail and
service trades in Lucan.

I've been temporarily laid off
from my job as a driver, and I
was wondering how I might go
about getting a license to teach
people to drive a car. Can you
fell me please, what all is in-
volved,"
This is quite a tall order as
there is quite a bit involved,
however, the following
should give you some idea of
how to go about it.
1) Apply to Ministry of
Transport and enclose $25.
2) You'll receive application
and medical forms plus a
drivers handbook, and details
on exam requirements.
3) Take medical from your
own Doctor, then report to
the Ministry of Transport of-
fice with your completed
formsnd iciond a passport photos a
4) You'll get a written test of
50 questions and a vision
test, and if you pass them
you'll be issued with a 30
day temporary instructors
permit. (Valid for teaching,
provided there's a qualified
instructor in your car.)
5) During this 30 day period
you must take another
written test plus a very
thorough road test, and final-
ly you will be tested on your
ability to instruct.
6) To be issued an Ontario
driving instructors license you
MUST PASS ALL of the tests.
The cost of the license is $15
and is renewable each year
on March 31st.
