None of the storeowners erecting the signs applied for sign permits so the signs are illegal. Council decided to have their solicitor check the by-law to ensure it is properly drafted to allow charges to be laid, They then decided to warn all owners of hanging signs to have them removed. Any that failed to do so would be charged. The Southcott Association has been given two weeks to inform council if they desire additional street lights in the village portion of the subdivision. Otherwise, council will spend the money budgeted for street lighting on lighting around the docks. There is some delay in the proposed July 1 enforcement of parking time limits on the main street. The signs have not arrived and approval has yet to be received from the ministry. A rough draft of the terms of reference for a village by-law officer were drawn up by council. Council hopes to soon have a by-, law officer operating in the village. Greg Peterson, one of the show's performers, said, "Kurt Weill is not a name you remember, but you'll recognize his music when you hear it". The show which opens Tues- day, July 12, plays 8:30 evenings, through Saturday, July 16, with 2:30 matinees on Wednesday and Saturday. Council itself is appealing the assessments for the drain at the Stephen twp, court of Assessment as they feel the portions of the assessment within the village and are proportionately larger than assessment to Stephen residents, Hanging signs are not allowed the village name as part of their incorporated name at council Monday night. Tom Lawson, vice-president elect of the proposed "Grand Bend Cruising Club" attended the meeting with the group's solicitor to request the permission. Mr. Lawson explained the club's main aims would be to promote social objectives, promote safe boating and navigation knowledge, and take cruises to other Yacht clubs. The group plans to have clubhouse Soccer teams post wins Whose holiday? Grand Bend council became involved in a rather heated debate concerning the beach parking lot at their regular Monday night meeting, The debate began as the result of a written complaint from R. Lorne Eedy. Mr. Eedy claimed he was charged $1.00 to park on the beach lot Monday July 4, although there is a sign on the lot which clearly states the parking fee will only be charged "Saturdays, Sundays and holidays." July 4 is of course an American holiday, but not a Canadian one, hence the problem. Councillor Harold Green argued heatedly in favor of changing the sign to read Saturdays, Sundays and American & Canadian holidays but he was outvoted by the rest of council. In future, parking on the beach lot will be free except for Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, Canadian holidays that is. The newly formed Grand Bend mosquitos defeated Lotidon Memorial 4-1 In exhibition play, with Timmy Martens, Ricky Johnstone, Daren Telford and Robby Mennen finding the London net. The Bend pee-wees moved within striking distance of the Southwestern Ontario league leadership after their recent 5-2 victory over the Sarnia C.C. All Stars. Centre-forward Nick Vanclenberk was star of the game, scoring four well taken goals, with Mike Wedlock adding a fifth. Grand Bend's minor soccer teams all recorded wins last week in four games played. In Huron minor league action, the Bend squirts downed their Goderich counterparts 1-0 through a goal by Danny McLean, then trounced Seaforth 6-0 with John O'Connor and Steve Lingard getting two goals each, Daryl Glavin and Danny McLean one apiece. Jim Ainsley gained the two shutouts, while Bruce Dietrich and Scotty Field were also out- standing on the squirt defence. "Berlin to Broadway" is the second Production of the Huron Country Playhouse 1977 Summer Season. The Montreal Phoenix Theatre Company will be perfor- ming at the Playhouse Tuesday through Saturday, July 12-16. The idea of hosting a guest production is a Playhouse in- novation. The production is offered as a regular part of the Playhouse Season. The Phoenix Theatre is under the direction of Maxim Mazum- dar, who appears in the show "Berlin to Broadway." Mr. Mazumdar appeared at Stratford Festival in 1975 with a one-man show "Oscar Remembered", Following the Playhouse engage- ment of "Berlin to Broadway" and a brief east coast tour, Mr. Mazumdar will appear in "Oscar Remembered" in New York and London. The Revue is made up of music by Kurt Weill. It is really a tribute to a man who, during the 30's and 40's was an outstanding theatre composer in Berlin, Paris and America. Featured in the show are such songs as 'September Song', 'Mack the Knife', `Girl of the Moment', and 'I Wait for Sleep'. Commenting upon the show, NAMES MISSED In the list of new members of the Grand Bend United Church in last week's issue, the names of Mi. and Mrs. Ernie Chipchase, transfers from Hensall were omitted.
