They visited Parkhill dam and
an Indian village at AiIse Craig
where they had their lunch, then
on to St. Thomas where they
visited the parks and museum.
Following supper at the Pon-
derosa they visited Spriegbank
Park and home.

Hay township council accepted
tenders sand cushion between the
12th and 13th concessions Mon-
day.
Three tenders for the project
were presented and the lowest
tender, 49 cents per cubic yard,
was accepted by council. Radford
Construction, Blyth, will begin
construction of the cushion
during the first week of Sep-
tember.
Council sent an application to
the Ministry of transportation to
cover the cost of appraisals for
township bridges. Bridges over 20
feet long must be appraised with
the Ministry paying 100 per cent
of the costs. B.M. Ross con-
sultants, Goderich, will appraise
nine Hay bridges.
A petition circulated by the
Ontario Association of Property
was endorsed by council. The
petition, recommending the
continuance of the Ontario Home
Redevelopment Program, will
be sent to the Ontario Ministry of
Housing.
Council also supported a
recommendation to the county
planning department that a
proposal for an urban develop-
ment project near St. Joseph be
accepted, The proposal involves
rezoning an area west of Highway
21 from seasonal residential to
urban to accommodate ap-
proxi mately twenty houses,

Planning for the 50th Plowing
Match sponsored by the Huron
Plowmen's Association is well
underway. The match will take
place on Saturday, September 17
on the Stephen township farm of
Allan Walper, near Grand Bend.
The coaching and junior match
will be held two days earlier on
Thursday, September 15,
While the Association Was
formed in 1924 no matches were
held during the war years 1942-43-
44 according to R. T, Bolton, the
Association secretary-treasurer.
Plans for the 50th Match were
advanced at a meeting in Win-
throp on June 28.
A special attraction this year
will include a solar heat system
which heats the Walper home.
Other attractions include horse
shoe pitching with two classes,
ladies and mots nail driving
contests and a log sawing contest
with two classes.
The meeting also approved
plans to hold a baSquet at Pine
Ridge Chalet On October 20.
