Photo by McKinley By MRS. HUGH MORENZ S1-IIPKA About 35 attended a miscellaneous bridal shower, Wednesday evening at Shipka Community Centre, for Marlene Clarke, bride-elect of early July. Several fun contests were conducted by Nola Ratz, Melva Rammeloo presented Marlene with a lovely corsage. Evelyn Pickering read an address to the bride-elect, and she was assisted in opening her lovely gifts by her sister Vicky, friend Mary Faye and cousins Kelly Lynn and Juanita Young. Marlene graciously thanked all. The east group were in charge of arranging the shower and serving refreshments. High music marks Personals Congratulations to Karen Guenther for receiving the high score of 04 marks, in Grade 1 rudiments of music exam, which she wrote at the University of Western Ontario. Karen is a music pupil of Mrs. Harold Stire, Dashwood. Mr. & Mrs, Elmer Harlton, Granton, visited Wednesday evening with their uncle Mr, Herb Harlton, and cousin Miss Dorothy Harlton, Cindy Desjardine spent several days holidays at Kincardine last week. Mrs. Mabel Desjardine and Mrs, Willis Desjardine visited Saturday with Mr. & Mrs Lester Desjardine at Thedford. Dinner guests Sunday with Mrs. Karl Guenther and Karen, following Karen's Confirmation at Greenway United Church, were Mr. & Mrs. Clyde Nicholson, Mr. & Mrs, Kenneth Nicholson, Bradley and Angela, all of Courtright, Mr, & Mrs. Kenneth Moore, Julie and Brent, Sarnia, Mrs, Kenneth Westman, and Pauline, London, Mr, Her- bert Harlton and Miss Dorothy Harlton. THIS SUMMER BE WATER WISE! The Catholic Women's League closed their season with a pot luck luncheon at the Alhambra hall, Monday night. Among the 25 present, four new members were welcomed. President, Ann Grootjen presided for the business, Reports were given of a presentation, on June 16, to Father Boyer, on the occasion of the 30th Anniversary in Priesthood, and the luncheon served to county council and guests after the sod turning for the new Lambton County Heritage museum on June 18- Plans were made and schedules arranged for keeping fresh flowers on the altar during the summer months, and one bake sale to be held August 7, after the three masses. A decision was made to buy some new dishes, The first fall meeting will be September 19, with Group P. as the lunch hostesses. The travelling prize donated by Angie Backx was won by Val Burke. Youth hold service Golden Ages visit Huronview Thirty-five attend shower Youths of the congregation of Church of God had charge of the worship and music part of the service on Sunday evening. The United Church choir practise followed by a social time was held, Tuesday evening, at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Ross Love, in Dashwood for choir members and their family. Communion was observed at the Grand Bend United Church Sunday morning. Rev. Harley Moore was in charge of the service and his "Meditation" message was "Committed to Christ." The choir's special anthem was "Like a Shepherd." Following the meditation was a service of Confirmation and reception of members by tran- sfer. Janet Allister and Shelly Meecham were welcomed into the fellowship of the church by profession of faith. Through Certificate of Tran- sfer the following were welcomed, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Grigg from Empress, London, Mrs. Erma Lowery, Hensall, Mr, & Mrs. Fred Norris from Parker St, Sarnia,Mr. & Mrs. Bob Southcott, from Exeter, Mrs, Carol Pickering, from Ailsa Craig and Mr. Milton Webb, Dashwood. Beginning next Sunday, July 3, services of worship at Grand Bend United Church, will be held on the church lawn at the regular hour of 11:15 a.m. weather permitting, Guest minister for the month of August are as follows: August 7, Rev..Dr, Anson Moorehouse, President of London Conference. August 14, Rev, Evelyn Krueger, of Owen Sound, formerly of Grand Bend. August 21, Rev, Earl Burr, of Sarnia formerly of this area. Personals Twenty-three Golden Agers from Grand and Dashwood travelled to Huronview at Clinton, on Thursday afternoon, to visit and entertain the residents. There was much toe tapping music with violin and vocal solos. Several games of Bingo were conducted and prizes awarded. Preceding their supper, which the group enjoyed at Huronview, they were taken on a tour through the residence. Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Curts who recently observed their 55th Wedding Anniversary. Joy Webb, London spent a few holidays here with her grand- mother, Mrs. Olive Webb, this week, Mrs. Mona Stimpson, Win- nipeg, is holidaying this week with her mother, Mrs. bay Desjardine, and brother Mark. Sixty-Seven attended the Gill picnic, Sunday, held at the park south of the Cut bridge. Mrs. Russell Gill and family, Brampton, attended the Gill picnic, Sunday, Mrs. Barb Nubbs, Grant and Allison, Hamilton are holidaying this week with Mr. & Mrs. Frank Allister and Family. Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Johnson attended a picnic party celebration at their daughter's home, Mr. & Mrs Duncan ,McVittie. at Southampton Sun- day. Mr. & Mrs Johnson were celebrating their 30th Wedding Anniversary and Don McArthur and Robin and Lawrence McVittie celebrated birthdays. Around 30 attended, including brothers sisters and friends. The party was arranged by the Johnson's two daughters, Neva McVittie and Nancy McArthur. Alec Hamilton attended the L.O.L. County parade and ser- vice, held Sunday at Varna United Church. During the service, Alec sang a solo entitled, "How long has it been." Mr. & Mrs. Jack Holt Gananoque are holidaying in this area. At the June meeting when United Church Women observed the Church's 50th Anniversary, all correspondence was read from former ministers' wives. One letter from Mrs. Florence Roulston, London, pleased this correspondent, as she said she read Grand Bend news very thoroughly, as a friend shared the Exeter paper with her.
