Mr, and Mrs. Ernest Kennedy, 132 Francis street, Lucan celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday with a family gathering at
the home of their son Glenn, Richmond street, Lucan, The couple was
married June 25, 1927. Mrs. Kennedy was the former Gertrude John-
son. Mr. Kennedy was a truck driver for Darling and Co. for close to 40
years retiring in 1971. Mrs. Kennedy was a school teacher. Their family
consists of son Glenn and four grandchildren. Photo by Hough

Fullarton won the Lucan Irish
fastball tournament Sunday night
for the second time in three years
by defeating the sponsoring
Lucan Irish club by a close 2-0
score,
The two most valuable players
in the entire tournament hooked
up in a real pitchers battle in the
final contest, The winning hurler
Robert Heckman of Fullarton
was named the tourney's most
valuable player while Dennis
Carty of the Lucan Irish was
named the best pitcher.
In addition to winning two
games in the tourney, Heckman
was in the Fullarton line-up at
third base and left field in their
other two contests.
In the chmpionship game,
Cartynyho shares the. Irish pit-
ching chores with Brian Lightfoot
held the winners to only four hits.
A total of 16 teams were in
action in the tournament which
started Thursday night and
concluded shortly before 9 p.m.
Sunday.,
The consolation championship
open to teams losing their first
games was won by Athen's
Leather of London with a 5-2 win
over Oakville in the finale.
In the "A" semi-final round
Fullarton edged the Lucan Rec
All-Stars 8-5 and the Irish
blanked French Cleaners of
Goderich 4-0.
Quarter-final play saw the
following scores; Lucan Rec 9 -
Kirkton 2; Fullarton 9 - Nairn 5;
Lucan Irish 6 - Lieury 5; French
Cleaners 7 - McGee Pontiac 0.
The "B" quarter finals saw
Duchess of Kent down West
Corners 11-6; Athens Leather
take Exeter Royals 9-2; Stebbins
Paving take Rowlands Insurance
6-4 and-Oakville edge Sylvan 11-9.
The Sacrament of Holy
Communion was celebrated in
Lucan United Church Sunday
morning, by the guest minister
Rev. Cecil Jardine. Mr, Jardine
took his message from the Gospel
of St. John 6:53 saying that we
must "eat the flesh & drink the
blood of our Lord" symbolically,
to he renewed in our lives, Jesus
offered the greatest gift possible
to mankind, his life, so that our
sins would be washed away. We
need God at all times; times of
joy and pleasures and times of
depression and, fear. God can
give us a new beginning and will

Wednesday evening Lucan and
area Compassion sponsors,
donors and friends met at the
home of Ed. and Annalys Butler
to hold a "sharing time" com-
paring notes, etc. on their "foster
children". Mr. Norman Hare was
present with slides of Haiti,
where the need is very, very
great for foster parents. Mr.
Hare also showed a new set of
slides with tape of "Children
'round the World", which
depicted those cared for by
Compassion and those which
were not in any program.

Lucan minor soccer teams
scored three victories in four
Sunday games against opposition
from St. Marys. All wins came by

The choir, under the direction
of Ray Koopman sang the
beautiful gospel hymn "When
Jesus Comes", with Shirley
Jones singing the solo part and
Ronald Burr and Reg. Gledhill
the men's duet. Both the old and
the contemporary Creeds were
incorporated into the service,
Mr. Jardine urged everyone to
be present at the induction of the
new minister, Rev. Keith Brown
of Markdale, on July 28, at 8 p.m.
saying that nothing gave a
minister more confidence than to
have a good congregation at his
induction and that they keep it up

Summer services will be held
in the United Church on July 31
and the first three Sundays in
August, The remaining Sunday
services will be held jointly with
Holy Trinity Anglican, or the
Church of your choice.

mosquitoes triumphed 6-0 and the
atoms won by a score of 4-0. St.
Marys won the pee wee contest 2-
1.
Kevin Koricina went on a five
goal scoring spree to lead the
Lucan squirts. Adding single
scores were Scott Finlayson,
Erin McComb and Ron Van Geel,
Two goal efforts by Dave
Gilmour and Tim Culbert led the
Lucan mosquitoes scoring at-
tack. Scoring in single fashion
were Mike Weber and Philip
Clarke.
The atom goals were booted by
Jeff Shipley, Paul Poole, Paul
Crunican and Jesse Crawford.
The lone pee wee goal came from
the foot of Eric Drost.
In girls exhibition play, the
Lucan juniors gained a 3-3 tie
with London Athletic Sports and
the seniors lost 3-1 to London
Grosvenor,
Lorraine Crawford, Nancy Van
Geel and Tracey Debeer were the
junior scorers while Shelly Egan
tallied for the seniors.
In four games, Saturday, the
Lucan clubs gained three wins
against Exeter.
Erin McComb and Kevin
Koricina scored for Lucan squirts
in a 2-0 win. Jeff Shipley was the
lone marksmen in a 1-1 atom tie
with Exeter and Dave Gilmour
and Al Craig scored in a 2-0
mosquito victory.
Ken McManus booted the only
goal in a 4-1 pee wee loss to
Exeter.

A British Columbia man was
killed in one of four accidents
investigated this week by officers
of the Lucan detachment of the
Ontario Provincial Police.
Donald Edward Damstrom,
age 22 who had just moved to
London from the west died in-
stantly when the motorcycle he
was operating struck an on-
coming automobile on Highway 4
at the Ilderton sideroad at 2.30
p.m. Saturday,
The investigation revealed that
the motorcycle driven by
Damstrom slowed for a car
making a turn, went out of
control and skidded into the
northbound lane and struck a car
driven by Larry VanWormer,
Port Elgin.
Wiley and a passenger, Robert
Clark, also of Ailsa Craig
received minor injuries. Con-
stable W.R. Disher listed
damages at $1,500.
Saturday night at 11.35 p.m. a
vehicle driven by William
Timmermans, R.R. 3 Lucan
struck a parked car owned by
Robert Mulholland, Granton, The
accident occured on Main Street
in Granton. Constable J.A.
Wilson estimated damages at
$1,000.
Constable G.N. Wilcox set
damages at $1,400 at 11.50 a.m.
Thursday when vehicles driven
by Hilda Vanderhoek, R.R, 3
Zurich and Mary De Brouwer,
R.R, 3 Lucan collided on High-
way 7, near Adelaide Street.
