Thursday night the Exeter
Royals travelled to Parkhill and
absorbed a 5-3 defeat in South-
western Fastball Association
play.
Parkhill jumped on starter Ron
Mason for three runs in the
bottom of the first as Ed Wall
walked, Fred Desjardine and Jim
Battram singled and Gerald
Gooding and Jim Scott also
walked.
Parkhill added two more runs
in the second inning as Ed Wall
singled as did Jim Battram.
The . Exeter Royals hit the
scoreboard in the fourth as Doug
Pearson singled and scored on
Paul McKnight's single, They
closed the gap to 5-2 in the sixth
as Terry Bourne tripled and
scored as Jim Pfaff doubled.
They scored one more in the
seventh as Barry Baynham
reached on a fielders choice and

swimming sessions again this
summer from 4:30-5:00 p.m.
Adult Swim is being held 6:30-
7:00 p.m. Monday to Thursday
for $1.00.
This half-hour can be used for
your leisure or you can receive
instruction from the guards on
deck. Your dollar also includes
public swim from 7:00 to 8:30
p.m.

swim-a-thon to raise money for
swim team. The money raised
will go towards busing, pool time
and new equipment for swim
team. The swim-a-thon will be
held July 9 at 9:00 a,m,
Anyone wishing to swim can
get sponsor sheets from the pool
this weekend. Exeter Swim Team
practices are Mondays, Wed-
nesdays and Fridays 1:00-1:45
p.m.
News from
Kirkton pool

Rumour has it that a brand
new, junior olympic pool has
sprung up behind the Kirkton
Community Centre. Being
naturally curious, our "Drool
Crew" decided to investigate and
we Round out several bits of juicy
news.
For instance, w' heard that the
supervisors this year are Debbie
Lindenfield and Tony Kyle,
Janice Woods is the head in-
structor and Jo-anne Poel and
Nancy McCurdy serve as
assistant instructors, while Ann
Robinson and Patty Lou Shapton
complete the staff as cashiers.
Our grape-vine tells us that the.
K-W Pool is offering Red Cross
swimming lessons from Pre--
Beginner to Senior and also
Bronze Medallion and Leader
Patrol. The program also in-
cludes Tiny Tots, Moms and Tots
and Adult Lessons. Adults can
enjoy special times to swim away
from the kids.
Keen this under your hat, but,
the K-W Pool plans lots of special
events such as free public
swimming days, a synchronized
swimming and water rescue
show.
Our "Drool Crew" will be
hanging around the K-W Pool this
summer and we hope to see many
other curious swim fans taking
part in the program.
Squirts win
one, lose one
The Exeter squirts soccer team
broke even in two recent
regularly scheduled games.
A week ago, the Exeter
youngsters scored a 3-0 victory
over Thamesford and Saturday
they were on the short end of a 3-0
count in Lucan.
Scoring for the locals against
Thamesford were Dave Russell,
Drew Hasselback and John
Relouw.
scored as Terry Bourne singled.
Dale Battram pitched for
Parkhill and picked up the win
while Brian Hodgins came on in
relief of Ron Mason and took the
loss.
Royals 3 Beechwood 2
Tuesday night the Exeter
Royals eked out a 3-2 win over the
Beechwood Bombers. The Royals
opened the scoring in the bottom
of the first as Pete Glover led off
with a single. Steve Hodgins
singled and Bill Farquhar singled
and two runs scored as Terry
Bourne singled.
Beechwood scored one run in
the top of the second to narrow
the count to 2-1, Beechwood tied
the score in the top of the fifth at
2-2.
The Royals scored the winner
as Barry Baynham doubled to
lead off the bottom of the fifth and
scored as Steve Hodgins singled.

Kirkton midget girls came up
winless in last weeks play with .a
5-3 loss to Stratford, Thursday
and a 5-5 tie id nine innings
against Goderich, Tuesday night.
Kirkton managed only 3 hits
against Stratford, Kim Heather
led the Kirkton batters with a
home run and single and Sue
Schaeffer added a single. Kim hit
the home run in the first inning to
put Kirkton ahead 2-0.
The Stratford pitcher while
keeping the Kirkton batters tied
down hit two home runs and a
double to account for four of
Stratfords five runs.
Tuesday night, the Kirkton
batters again came up with a
shortage of hits with Jayne
Dougall and Kelly Kernick
counting two singles each.
Kirkton girls were lucky to
come up with a tie as they
committed five fielding errors to
Goderich's four,
Goderich pitcher Mit-
chelmore allowed eight walks to
Kirkton's two walks and two hit
batters. Sheila Penhale pitched 4
and one-third innings allowing
four runs with Patti Downs
allowing one run in 4 and two-
thirds innings.
Kirkton plays in Tavistock
Thursday night. The next home
game is at Kirkton Monday July 4
against the Stratford girls.

Jim McCallum toiled for
Beechwood and took the loss
giving up 13 hits, Brian Hodgins
picked up the win giving up five
hits while striking out nine
batters.
The Royals next home game is
to-night as they play Parkhill
while next Tuesday they play
host to last year's finalists from
Lieury.
Fords get
win by 5-1
The Exeter Fords defeated
Lucan 5-1 Saturday to chalk up
their fifth straight victory in
minor soccer league play.
The Fords now have a total of
10 points and are atop the league
standings,
Phil De Haan led the Fords in a
scoring way Saturday with a
three goal performance, Adding
single scores were Pete Parsons
and Wayne Smith.
