Proper storage
of raspberries
Delicate juicy red Ontario
raspberries will be available in
mid July. To thoroughly enjoy
this fresh summer fruit food
specialists at the Ontario Food
Council, Ministry of Agriculture
and Food, recommend careful
handling and proper storage.
Fresh raspberries should be
firm and have a bright colour.
Soft spots indicate that berries
are overripe or have been bruised
or squashed.
Raspberries are very fragile,
and should be handled gently.
Before storing, sort raspberries,
but do not wash, Keep uncovered
in a single layer on a tray in the
refrigerator. For best quality,
use raspberries within three
days.
To use, wash raspberries
gently and quickly. Do not soak,
as this will make raspberries soft
and soggy, Pat dry and serve
simply with farm-fresh cream
and a sprinkle of sugar.
