ladies golf
In Tuesday's regular ladies
nite competition at the Exeter
golf course, Audrey Joynt took
low gross honours while Jo Vallis
recorded the best net score.
Edna Busche required the least
number of putts and Karen
Davison was named the most
honest golfer.
Lucan bowlers
in tournament
A large number of bowlers
participated in an invitational
open tournament at the Lucan
Lanes Saturday.
Wayne Smith was the top male
bowler with a single score of 342.
George English was next with 269
and Ward Ellyatt third at 253.
Lorna Ellyatt was tops for the
ladies with a score of 279, Val Neil
and Holly Elson were deadlocked
for second with identical scores
of 259 and Hazel Eaton followed
with a 249.
Winning in the couples overall
division were Dennis Burt and
Val Neil: Mike Wraith and
Another local fastball team has
been organized and will compete
in tournaments throughout the

The team known as the Zurich
Buckeyes is cOMprized of
players out of the Zerich
rec league. Paul Morrison and
Richard Schilbe are in charge of
the players,
They participated in their first
tournament of the year over the
weekend in Dorchester and
faired well, They won 1 -0 in the
first game over Union Juniors on
the strength of Isidore Laporte
and Brian Hodgins' pitching and
a suicide squeeze bunt by Pat
Bedard.
They came up on the short end
of a 6.- 3 count to Otterville to be
eliminated,To show the calibre of
play by the Buckeyes the Union
Royals lose
to Lieury
Thursday night the Exeter
Royal travelled to Lieury and
absorbed a 9-- 0 trouncing in
Southwestern association fastball
play.
Lieury scored two runs in the
first and second innings, three in
the fourth and two in the fifth to
put the game away,
Newcomer Ed Brown pitched
for Lieury striking out 14 batters
and allowing two hits. Cliff
Gingerich pitched for Exeter and
did not receive much defensive
help,
Brian Hodgins was the only
batter to get a hit off Brown as he
had two singles. The Royals
travel to Parkhill to play the
Padres tonight while Tuesday
nighttheyplay host to the Beech-
wood Bombers at the Exeter
Community Park,
Lorna Ellyatt and Bob Smith
and Betty English,
Hidden score prizes were won
by Edythe Watson, George
English, Ginnette Gwalchmai,
Terry Mawdsley, Len Maslen and

at Ironwood
Kevin Gilmour fired an 82 to
post the low gross score at
Thursday's junior competition at
Ironwood golf course. Jeff Fuller
won low net at 71. The other
winners were Steve Pearce and
Roger Belling.
In Tuesday's regular men's
night action, Glenn Kadechuk
was best in low gross at 74, Next
in line at 76 was Dennis Smith.
The low net winners were Dave
Boltzmann and Barry Southcott
with scores of 67 and 68,
respectively,
In "B" flight, Iver Small
chalked up a 76 and Fred Wells
scored an 80 to take low gross
honours. Best in net were Ray La
Couse and Rick Funston,
Dennis Hockey with an 84 was
the "C" flight low gross com-
petitor. He was followed by Bob
Forest at 92. Best in net were
Dick Etherington and John
Morgan.
GB squirts
win first one
The Grand Bend squirts won
their first game of the season
Tuesday in the Huron minor
soccer league.
The Grand Bend youngsters
chalked up a 2-1 victory over
Clinton. Scoring in single fashion
for the winners were Danny
MacLean and Joe Kaak.
The third annual canoe race
sponsored by the Ausable-
Bayfield Conservation Authority
was won by the brother com-
bination of Rene and Xavier
Boogemans.
Rene from Hensall and Xavier
of Grand Bend won the expert
event and compiled the fastest
time of the day in one hour and
eight minutes.
A Grand Bend pair Dave
Desjardine and Stan Lovie won
the amateur division with
Stephen Guay and Tony Risler
second and Warren Knight and
Steve Wells finishing third.
Richard Cameron and Todd
Beedle won junior honours
followed by Don and Ron Brint-
nell and Danny Martin and
Francis Archibald,
The mixed class was won by
Len and Brenda Pearson. Next
came Doug and Sharon Crowther
and Arnold Pearson and Bernice
Vincent.
Jerry and Murray Bremner
topped the men's advanced
amateur division. Placing second
were Don Craig and Edward Tait
while John Silvestre and Don
Verhaeghe were third.
The kayak winner was Gunther
Kippert followed by Les
Gregorasz and Heinz Becker.
Dave Nelder and Joe Arnold
were the winners in the VIP
section followed by Eugene
Creces and Martin Kelders and
Garry Desjardine and Doug
Jennison.
Fords get
1 -0 victory
The Exeter Fords minor soccer
team won their fourth game of
the season Saturday with a 1-0
win over Thames ford.
Wayne Smith fired the game's
only successful shot and Rich
Helm playa an important part in
the victory. He was in goal to gain
the shutout and saved an op-
position goal on a crucial penalty
shot early in the game.

The Grand Bend United Pee-
Wee soccer team stretched their
unbeaten record to four games,
with two home victories over the
weekend, In exhibition play, they
defeated Clinton 3-2 through
goals from inside-forwards Greg
Prout, Nick Vandenberk and Jim
Siddall.
Sunday evening, the "Pinery
Panthers" faced Alchem Foot-
ball Club in South Western
Ontario League play.
The "Panthers" dominated
play for long spells, and fully
deserved their 6-1 victory. Right-
winger Bill Mennen, inside-right
Nick Vandenberk, and centre-
foward Mike Wedlock had two
goals each, and together with
inside-left John Wiendels they
proved to be a constant danger to
the Alchem defence,
John VanLeeuwen was a
fighting force in the Bend
defence, and goalkeeper Drew
Gray was also in fine form far the
"Panthers."
Grand Bend travel westwards
next Sunday to take on the Sarnia
C.C. All Stars in further League
action.
Grand Bend's Mike Wedlock
was named most valuable player
in Sunday's game against
