Wednesday was the day of the bps trip for senior citizens arranged by the Exeter Lions' Club. Three buses went to Grand Bend, Parkhill, Springbank Park, Eldon House and Fan- shawe Park, At Springbank Park lunch was served. The whole day was a magnificently generous gesture of concern for the elderly. Wives of Lions acted as hostesses, adding to the pleasure of the occasion. Mrs. Doris Baxter and Sylvester Wuerth spent several days with Mr. & Mrs. Emerson Wein last week. Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Wein were Mr. & Mrs. Robert Blackwell of Caledonia, Mrs. Arthur Enwright, Patricia and Arthur Jr. and Mrs. Laird Hollinghead of Lefroy, Mr, & Mrs. Robert Waddell, Dianne and Heather, and Roy Goulding of London, To honour Marlene Elizabeth Clarke, a community shower was held in the Sunday School rooms of Zion United Church„ Wed- nesday evening. Mrs. Cliff Russell, Mrs. Ervin Ratz, Mrs. Bob Galloway, Mrs. Ross Pickering and Mrs. Joe McCann were hostesses, • There was a musical number by Cathy Russell and Jane Pickering, Mrs, Gordon Fink- beiner accompanying them. Mrs. Pickering and Mrs, Irvin Fink- beiner gave readings, Vicki Clarke, Debbie Galloway, Gail Clarke and Mary Anne Desjar- dine assisted Marlene in opening the gifts. Mrs. Ervin Ratz con- ducted two contests before lunch was served. Sunday morning a Memorial Service was combined with the morning worship in Zion United Church. Rev. Bruce Pierce preached on"WhatIs Important". The choir sang "The Last Mile of the Way", and' a men's group from Dashwood sang several numbers. UWO GRADUATE — Sheryl M. Gilbert, daughter of Mrs. Erma Gibbs, Parkhill, graduated from the University of Western Ontario June 8 with a Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in physical educ- tion. Sheryl will be attending Althouse College in the fall. By MISS ELLA MORLOCK CREC4TON Tuesday evening there was a ribbon cutting ceremony at the gates recently installed at the Community Park entrance, Because the gate restoration was a Women's Institute project, members of the Institute con- ducted the dedicatory ceremony. The ribbon was gold and blue bows attached and the flowers were yellow mums with blue ribbons, gold and blue being the Institute colours, Mrs. Gerald Dearing, president, welcomed those present and expressed thanks to all who had helped in the restoration project, Mrs. Wilfred Mack read a history of the Institute's involvement in the Community Park. Mrs. Bruce Shapton introduced MPP Jack Riddell who expressed appreciation for the interest of the Institute in the community. Twelve charter members cut the ribbon, each securing a length of ribbon and a how for a souvenir. The twelve were Mrs. Mack, Mrs, Ed Lamport, Mrs. Lorne Hodge, Mrs. Jack Morrissey, Mrs, Sam King, Mrs. Walter Weber, Mrs, Gordon Morlock, Mrs. Irvin Finkbeiner, Mrs. Clayton Sims, Mrs. Leonard Wein, Mrs. Emmery Fahner, Mrs. Aaron Wein. Official thanks were expressed to the Institute by Don Dinney on behalf of the Park Board, by Alf Smith for the village trustees, and by Cecil Desjardine on behalf of Stephen Township, Rev. Bruce Pierce offered a prayer of dedication of what he termed "this symool of service to the community", Mrs, Dearing thanked all those who took part in the ceremony, and invited everyone to the Community Hall where cake and ice cream were served. At the guest register were Mrs. Clayton Sims and Mrs. Earl Haist. A potted mum was given to the oldest Institute member present, Mrs. Myrtle Baker; to the guest who had travelled the farthest to attend the ceremony, Mrs. Doris Baxter, and to Mr. Riddell. More than 100 people signed the guest register. The members of the committee appointed by the Institute to implement the gate restoration were Mrs. Cliff Kenney, Mrs. Clayton Sims and Mrs. Earl Haist. The three members of the Park Board who' Met with the Institute committee were' Mr, John Stewart, Mr, Ken Campbell and Mr. Allan Walper. Sandra Shapton prepared the blueprint for the gates. Personals Mrs. Gerald Schenk and Lori Lynne were in Cornwall last week to attend the funeral of Mrs. Schenk's father, Emile Cholette, He is survived by seven children and four sisters. Three of the sisters live in the province of Quebec. Mr. & Mrs. Orville Jones, Bluevale, visited friends in the area last week. Members of the group were Harry Hoffman, Murray Wolfe, Stanley Haist and Jack Gaiser, with Mrs. Mervyn Tiernan ac- companying them, William Sch- wartz read the Scripture, and four members of the cemetery committee, Gordon Morlock, Milton Sweitzer, Cliff Kenney and Gordon Finkbeiner acted as ushers. Among those present at the service from a distance were Rev, & Mrs. Fred Faist, Strat- ford, Mrs, Robert Hilborn, Orangeville, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Blackwell, Caledonia, Mr. & Mrs. Emerson Bawden, Windsor, Mr. & Mrs. Ray Collett, Toronto, Mr. & Mrs, Lloyd Fahner, Sudbury, Mr, & Mrs. Earl Smith & daughter, London.
