ZURICH 236-4393 Justice of the Peace Douglas Wedlake presided at Exeter court, Tuesday, and the stiffest penalty handed out was levied against Larry E, Baird, Hensall, He was charged with a speed of 100 in a 50 zone on April 2. Baird was fined $250. plus costs of $3.00 or 25 days in jail. He was given 60 days in which to pay the fine, Three fines were levied against Lawrence Edwin Kellett, RR 3 Exeter. He' was fined $25 and costs for failing to register a motor vehicle,$55 and costs for failing to provide evidence of insurance coverage and $105 and costs on a charge of careless driving, The first two charges were laid on June 1 and the latter on May 20. The careless driving count Only two accidents were in- vestigated this week by officers of the Exeter police department. Wednesday, vehicles driven by Charles Ortmanns, RR 3, Exeter and Mahlon Ryckman, Exeter collided on Main Street, north of Boom's camp in operation Don "Boom" Gravett, former rec director in Exeter and Hanover, announced this week he would still be conducting a summer camp this year. He started the camp 16 years ago while working in Exeter and many local youngsters continued to attend the week long session after he moved to Hanover. This year's camp is being spon- sored by Pike Lake Lodge, which is located on Pike Lake between Harriston and Mt. Forest, Registration is open to boys and girls, ages eight to 15 and it will be held from Saturday, July 9 to Saturday, July 16. Forms for registration may be secured locally from Bob Fletcher. In talking with the T-A this week, Gravett said that the facilities at Pike Lake will enable the camp to offer an even greater assortment of activities for youngsters. • There will be water skiing, boating, tennis, golf, horse shoes and shuffleboard, as well as the usual hikes, crafts, floor hockey, softball, soccer, music and games. Cost of the registration is $60. Mary Gravett will again be camp mother, a position she has held for all of Boom's 16 camps. arose out of an incident in Cen- tralia when OPP Constable Jim Rogers saw a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner. Kellett and another witness said that he was not driving at the time of the erratic driving, but had switched places with the driver while the vehicle was in progress. Kellett explained he did this out of an act of friendship as the original driver was under a licence suspension. " Acting Crown Attorney Bill Kierdorf said he felt the act of changing drivers while the vehicle was in motion was in itself a case of careless driving. Mr. Wedlake agreed with that argument, although he said he believed Kellett's testimony that he was not driving in the first instance. Sanders. Constable George Robertson set damages at $700. A vehicle owned by Mattkeas Athanasios, Exeter was damag- ed to the extent of $300 when it was struck by an unknown vehi- cle while parked behind 429 Main Street. Constable Robertson is investigating. .Thursday, Alvin Willert reported to police that several chairs and a coffee urn had been taken from a storage shed at the construction site of the new Ex- eter arena. Constable Sadler is investigating. Exeter police chief Ted Day reports that a great number of bicyclists in the town have not yet purchased their 1977 licence plates. Day says any one found riding a bike after the deadline of July 1 will be charged under the town bylaw. At the same time the chief said that during the past week two persons have been charged with riding a bicycle on the sidewalk of Main Street. Officers have been advised to continue these charges of illegal riding. In the case of juveniles their bicycles will be confiscated for seven days. Speed bike is damaged Monday, Exeter police officers recovered a 10 speed bicycle at the rear of South Huron District High 'School. The bike valued at $130 was found with the front wheel, pedals and seat removed. Constable Brad Sadler is in charge of this mischief in- vestigation. zone.
