Mrs. Earl Dixon, Centralia was
hostess for the Brinsley U.C.W.
meeting held Tuesday evening at
her home. Mrs. Jack Trevithick
opened the meeting with a poem.
The worship service "For
today" was taken from the
Westminster Sunday service
after which Mrs. Dyck led in
prayer. Ruth Lewis read a poem
"Seeds of Goodness," A reading
"The Canadian Caribbean
Connection," Winston Brown was
given by Mrs. Jack Trevithick,
Meeting closed with hymn "Trust
and Obey".
Mrs. Wilbert Lewis took charge
of the business. 13 ladies were
present. Lunch was served by
Group two ladies.
Mrs. Fred Lewis and Mrs.
Wilbert Lewis attended a Tup-
perware demonstration Thur-
sday at the home of Mrs. Dorthy
Bullock, Exeter.
Quite a few from the area at-
tended the Fenton-Donaldson
wedding Saturday in Clandeboye
United Church.
Michael Amstrong, Clan-
deboye, formerly a Brinsley
resident, is recuperating from a
badly injured eye received in a
baseball accident,
Bill Prest and Max Shepherd
provided the music for the
Fenton-Donaldson wedding
dance Saturday.
Cecil Ellwood visited recently
with Mr. & Mrs. George Mercer,
Exeter.
Ladies of St. Marys Guild
entertained Brinsley Li,C.W.,
Wednesday evening. Mr. & Mrs.
Paul Turnbull of Grand Bend
showed pictures of Guatemala
where the earthquake so
tragically struck last year. They
were down there four months, Mr.
Turnbull, his wife and family and
he assisted in building new homes
and hospitals while there.
Mrs, Barry McConnell, London
and Murray Hodgson attended
Open House at the Strathroy
District Collegiate Institute
recently where Murray is a
student.
Mr. & Mrs. Barry McConnell of
London visited last Sunday with
the letters parents Mr. & Mrs.
Howard Hodgson and Murray.
The Sunday Church School was
in charge of the service for
Flower Sunday, with Supt, Ed.
Melanson leading in worship,
The sanctuary was beautifully
decorated with peonies, iris,
lilies, orange blossoms, etc. The
highlight of the floral
arrangements was done in the
form of a cross on the communion
Lucan soccer teams enjoyed a
very successful week with five
victories in six starts.
In regular league tripleheader
in Exeter Monday night, the
Lucan atoms squeezed out a 1-0
win, the Lucan Mosquitoes won
by a score of 5-0 and Exeter took
the Pee Wee contest 1-0.
In exhibition play, the Lucan
Mosquitoes downed Nairn 4-2;
the Pee Wees swamped Ailsa
Craig 10-0 and the Lucan girls
edged London Memorial 3-1.
Jess Crawford notched the only
Lucan Atom score against Exeter
on a penalty shot. Jerry Emery
recorded the shutout.
Scoring in single fashion for the
Lucan Mosquitoes against Exeter
table which, before the beginning
of the service, held only one white
flower at the very top. As the
children came in, each one
placed a flower in the mesh and
the final floral cross was very
beautiful. A lovely basket of
white mums, glads, and red
roses, was gratefully received
from the funeral of the late
were David Gilmour, Ian Carroll,
Alastair Craig, David McVinney
and Dean Mills. Robbie Black
was the shutout goal tender.
Melodie Crawford scored two
goals to lead the Lucan girls
scoring attack while Nancy Van
Geel registered in single style.
The Lucan Mosquito,
marksmen against Nairn were
Tim Culbert, Alastair Craig,
David McVinney and David
Gilmour.
Brad De Graw let go three
successful kicks to lead the
Lucan Pee Wees against Ailsa
Craig. Getting two goals each
were Paul Gilmour, David De
Boer and Ken McManus while
Chris Sockett scored once.
Archie Reilly. Mr. Melanson
extended the sympathy of the
members to Mrs. Reilly and the
family.
Brent Bannerman read the
first scripture and his mother,
Mrs. W.J. Bannerman (Barb)
illustrated this scripture "The
feeding of the 5,000" by flan-
nelgraph for the children. Wesley
Stanley led in prayer and Mrs.
Ivan Hearn (Kit) read the second
lesson with Mrs. Ed Melanson
(Freeda), teacher of the adult
study group, giving the message
She based her message on the
story of God calling Abraham, at,
the age of 75 to "move on with;
Him". Mrs. Melanson said that'
"aging is only a state of mind"
and middle age 40 - 60 can be a
beginning or an ending of the
biggest adventure of all, with
God. She said "one is never too
old to be of use to God".
Anna Bates, Carolyn Lankin,
Pat Bates and Alex Marcus acted
as ushers, receiving the offering.
Mr. Melanson voiced the
thanks of the Church School to
those who provided flowers for
the occasion and to Mrs. M.H.
Hodgins (Iva), Wendy Hearn and
her friend Susan Huffman, Jane
& Jean Thompson for arranging
the flowers.
Sunday, June 12, Rev. Len
Graham of London, a
Presbyterian minister doing
further study, will be the guest
speaker. We have heard reports
that Mr. Graham is a fine
speaker, and will bring a won-
derful message. Let us fill the
church for this occasion and also
the following Sunday, June 19, for
the 115th Anniversary, when Rev.
Harold Snell of Exeter, well
known to our congregation, will
be the special speaker.
Tonight, Thursday at 7:30, the
U.C.W. executive will meet at the
home of Mrs. David Park. All
members are asked to be present
to plan the booth at the Fair and
the Chicken Barbecue in Sept.
Lucan Church School Family
Picnic will be held Sunday, June
26 at the Lions' Park from 3-5:30.
Activities for all ages. Bring a
picnic basket to share, with ice
cream and beverage provided by
the Church School.

Seniors to
visit school
Senior Citizens Week June 19 -
25, will be observed by the Lucan
Club by accepting an invitation to
the Lucan Public School to hold
their meeting and to be en-
tertained by the children at a
concert. For transportation
members are asked to meet at
the clubroom at 1:15, and they
will hold their regular business
meeting prior to the concert.
Cards of thanks were read from
Muriel Cobleigh and Violet
Hardy. Only 56 members have
signed up for the theatre party in
August which means 28 are either
not going or have forgotten about
i. This is your last opportunity
today.
President Merna O'Neil read a
poem entitled "Advice to Millions
Who Rush Through Life".
Euchre and Bridge were en-
joyed by members of the Sun-
shine Group with prizes going as
follows: Lady's High - Margaret
Carter, Lady's Lone Hands -
Helen Thompson, Lady's Low -
Ann Kish, Man's High - Reola
Hotson, pia-Sling a man's, Man's
Lone Hands - Cec. Robb, Man's

and Maude' Hodgins low.
The Busy Buddies continued
their liquid embroidery. There
will be no class, as such, this
afternoon, but members are
asked to bring their blocks as
samples and complete one for the
club.
