•Arena tenders
being studied
Tenders for the new Hensall
Arena and Community Centre
were opened Tuesday but Hensall
clerk Bob Heil says the proposed
costs are far from final.
Five contractors submitted
tenders ranging from $687,850 to
$750,000. Heil said council was
budgeted for total cost of $635,000.
"The tenders were proposal
tenders so the final cost of the
arena may end up nowhere near
the proposed prices", he in-
dicated.
The contractors have agreed to •
be flexible so council may decide
what parts of the accepted tender
will be used and which may be
refused, he said.
"Council will whittle the
have been successful according to
Heil."
"We're averaging between
$175 to $200 per house on the
canvass", he said.

proposed arena and community
centre in the tenders is a "Rolls
Royce" centre which will cost
less once the unnecessary
features are removed by coun-
cil, he said.
There are things from the old
arena such as glass which may be
used for the new arena, he
suggested. "When council
finishes the people of Hensall will
have exactly what they wanted",
said Heil,
Council has 30 days to negotiate

with Seaforth council.
The next meeting of council has
been set for June 20,,
The excessive snow removal
costs on the township roads in
Tuckersmith Township last
winter amounting to $73,850 are
the reason behind council
requesting a supplementary road
maintenance subsidy of $21.399.20
from the Ministry of Tran-
sportation and Communications.
It was also learned at the

Tuesday night that council
received a $17,000 supplementary

Bank of Montreal for its former
bank building in Vanastra. Part
of the building now vacant would
be used as an office for the clerk.
The federation of Agriculture
occupies an office there as well.
Ronald McGregor attended the
meeting to complain about
flooding problems which he had
had each heavy rain period since
the Cooper municipal drainage
system was closed in. "It has
even put the furnace out," he
said. Council will make an in-
spection of the drain with the
engineer.
Council actepted the
resignation of Mrs, Dianne Black
from the Vanastra Day Care
Centre Board, no explanation
given for her decision.
Council will ask the county of
Huron to re-consider its decision
not to take over the Hensall road
as requested by the township.
Because the road is heavily
travelled by gravel trucks to
nearby gravel pits, traffic to the
busy Hensall livestock weekly
sale, and the grain elevators at
Hensall, council considers it had
made a legitimate request for the
take-over.
