Pete Glover reached on an error and came around to score as Jack Glover ripped a long home run to left field. Slyvan struck for three runs in the top of the fourth to take a 5-2 lead. The Royals upped their count to four in the last of the fourth as Tom Daley opened with a single was sacrificed to second and scored as Paul McKnight's long fly ball was dropped. He scored as Pete Glovers ground ball was bobbled. The Royals exploded for three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-5 lead. Bill Farquhar started the rally with a single. Jack Glover's sacrifice bunt was mishandled and Doug Pearson blasted a long home run to bring in three runs. Slyvan scored one in the sixth to end the scoring. Cliff Gingerich started on the mound and picked up the win allowing 7 hits while striking out 5 batters. With 12 players participating, each youngster played 11 matches. Wayne won 10 of his matches, losing only one. Bruce Shaw Jr., Dave Shaw and Kevin Parsons tied for second place with nine wins and two losses. Frank Vermaeten had eight wins and three losses to finish third. Dave Underwood and Scott Bogart followed, with Kevin Glasgow and Graham Solomon close behind. Mike yed, Michelle Veri and Ingrid Peitsch, having played only a short time, showed a lot of promise and desire, Talk about enthusiasm! It took about five hours to run off the matches but the kids were still eager to play and wanted to do it in iunior tennis tournament and get in position to hit the ball just in front of your body, Follow through with your swing, Remember, kids, a lot of the best players in the world come from small towns in far away places. All you need is desire and discipline and you could be another Jimmy Connors or Chris Evert. The Credition Mets, the newest team in the Huron-Perth in- termediate baseball league have a new coach and assistant, Taking over the coaching duties for the Crediton club will be Jack Chipchase and his helper will be Frank Boyle. Chipchase who only last /year completed a 17 year career in professional hockey was noted as a long ball hitter with minor ball teams in Hensall. Frank Boyle played a con- siderable amount of baseball in the Exeter minor program. List acceptable face protectors The Ontario Minor Hockey Association this week released a list of the facial protectors which are acceptable for the coming season, All boys playing minor hockey in the area this coming season will be required to wear one of the approved protectors, which will completely cover the player's face, The approved protectors are as follows: Cooper HM 50 Jr. and HM 50, HM 60 Jr. and HM 60, CFG Jaws (two-piece combination which must be worn as a unit). Joffa 255-51 full wire mask. The OMHA have also ruled that these protectors must be at- tached to a CSA approved helmet. Boys are advised that any alteration to helmets (in- cluding painting) will void the CSA approval. Manager Vern McCallum said that the OMHA have been in- formed that painting of helmets is dangerous and could cause failure due to chemical reaction with the helmet materials. It is therefore expressly forbidden, including the painting on of numbers. All players will require social insurance numbers this season also. The Exeter Royals won two of their three starts this week in the Southwestern Ontario Fastball Association. Thursday, the Royals downed Huron Park 4-2 and Sunday they edged Sylvan 7-6. The only loss came Tuesday night when they were on the short end of a 4-3 score to Narin. The Lucan Irish continue to lead the league with nine vic- tories without a defeat. Nairn is second with nine wins and one loss and the Royals are next with six wins and a pair of defeats. The Exeter club travels to Nairn tonight, Thursday and will be back at Exeter Community Park Tuesday night at 9 p.m. to play host to Huron Park. Exeter 4 Huron Park 2 Thursday night the Royals travelled to Crediton and came home with a thrilling 4-2 win in nine innings. The Royals opened the scoring in the first innings, Pete Glover started it off as he singled, Jack Glover doubled to score him and scored himself as Terry Bourne singled. Huron Park scored once in the second as Wes Hodgson singled and came around to score. Huron Park knotted the score in the fifth „as,' Bobi Lamme singled and scored on ex-Royal Dennis Bierling's double. That set the stage for a two run rally in the ninth for Exeter. Scott Burton reached first on a walk,he was sacrificed to second by Steve Hodgins and scored as Tom Daley singled. Brian Hodgins then reached on a finish up striking out one and not allowing a hit. Exeter3 Nairn 4 Tuesday night Nairn travelled to Exeter and went home with a close 4-3 win. Nairn opened the scoring in the first inning as Gerald Nordemans and Ken Horst hit doubles. Exeter came back with two runs as Pete Glover led off with a single. Jack Glovers single scored him and he came in to score as Steve Hodgins singled. Nairn went ahead 3-2 in the fourth as Ken Horst walked McFadden singled and Brian Ropp also hit a single. Exeter tied the score in the bottom of the sixth as Tom Daley singled and scored as Steve Hodgins doubled. Nairn scored the winning run in the top of the seventh as Martelle walked and scored as Ernie Schlegal singled. Dan Martelle pitched for Nairn allowing six hits, while striking out two batters. Brian Hodgins took the loss allowing six hits while striking out two. Kirkton team wins fourth The Kirkton juveniles upped their season record to four vic- tories in five starts this year in the Western Ontario fastball league with a close 5-4 win over Baden, Neil Stephen batted in the tying and winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to gain the victory. Murray Brookshaw was the winning pitcher for Kirkton. The Kirkton club was in Shakespeare last night, Wed- nesday and will make their next home start at the Kirkton park Wednesday, June 16 with Fullarton supplying the op- position. Best in low net in the "A" flight with a 69 and 77, respectively were Don Cowan and Barry Southcott, Larry Wein and Dennis Smith headed the "B" flight in low gross and low net winners were Pete McFalls and Scott Ross, The "C" flight was led in low gross by Bob Forest with Doug Parker in the runnerup position. Best in low net were Chuck Doxtator and Clarence Ferguson. KIRKTON GIRLS WIN 14-5 The Kirkton midget girls chalked up their second win of the season Tuesday night as they defeated Mitchell by a score of 17- 6. The next home game for the Kirkton team will be Friday night at 7 p.m. Jayne Dougall and Sheila Penhale led the winners at the plate with three hits apiece. Next came Kelly Kernick and Bonnie Westlake with two safeties each and single hits were garnered by Kim Heather, Lori Iredale, Kim Riehi and Carrie Stroud. Kirkton built up a good lead with seven runs in the first inning and continued with at least one run in every frame thereafter, Patti Down continued her high strikeout performance by averaging two tannings per in- ning, all over again next week-end. I was worn out just watching their exuberant play. The Shaws and the Bogarts brought refresh- ments during, the afternoon, which, needless to say, didn't last long. After winning events at the Huron-Perth Conference and WOSSA level Paul competed in the all-Ontario track and field competition at Sudbury. He finished a very respectable seventh in the 3,000 metre diStance. There were 17 con- testants. Paul won the 1,500 and 3,000 metre races in the Huron-Perth championships. He also was first in the 3,000 metre. event. at WOSSA and was third in the 1,500. Last fall, Paul won the Huron- Perth and WOSSA junior cross country championships and was 11th in the all-Ontario. South Huron District High School track and field coach Joe Futon was pleased with Paul's performance in Sudbury. He added, "Look for even better results next year." Plan motorcross at Hully Gully Simcoe resident Barry Bezzo, will be battling to retain his lead in the third event of the CZ Jawa Motocross Series at Hully Gully. The Motocross action blasts off at noon this Sunday, at the motorsport park near Varna.
